Does it charge on its charger? |

What hoot said. It might just be a bad internal battery. Generally pretty easy to source a cheap replacement and swap it in. |

Interesting. What kind of cradle / power connector does it have? |

I'm going to guess that the cradle that it does charge on is not the same cradle that it doesn't charge on, that they are separate devices (one plugs in to 110v, and the other to 12V), and that the 12V one is defective. |

The AC charging cord looks like it came from a Iphone 5 and plugs into the bottom of the Tom Tom. |

Sure is a complicated connection for something that should "need" a power and a ground. I'll be curious how you come to like the Ride. I'm planning on getting one soon. The screen on my ZUMO is very trashed, and I've never been very happy with it's ability to select a route. |

I have a Garmin Zumo that I love but its pretty old. Super easy to use, but it started turning off by itself. I thought the Tom Tom would be a good buy. So far, I'm not to impressed. |

Does tom tom provide a pinout for the connector that connects to the dock? Could just be the power wires are in the wrong place... |

Two wires, one red one black. Like you say, hard to get that wrong. Maybe there is a fuse in the cradle. Those conductors are REALLY exposed. Seems easy to short them. |

It isn't just power and ground. The mount has a charger in it. It has to have sense lines for each battery (if there are more than one) and it very well may have more than one power and ground, depending on its current requirements. Contact pins don't have that much surface area. |

Looks like a different dock but maybe you are experiencing the same problem. Skip the first part and scan to page 2, three posts just prior to the pictures. The gold pins have steel springs between them and the circuit board contact pads. The steel springs rust. http://www.tomtomforums.com/threads/rider-not-char ging-hard-wired-bike-mount.16277/page-2 |
