Well, this past weekend was a very good one! Found a basically new Stanley fullsize toolbox on wheels at Habitat ReStore on Sunday for $50- now I can FINALLY organize my tools like I should... and then there was Saturday.
The local Kiwanis club sponsored an antiques appraisal event at the First Baptist Church, walking distance from my house... my honey had her two Runci clown paintings looked at, and I took my weird chair. Years ago my best buddy, who lives on a houseboat, gave me the chair, as he was gonna just throw it out or in the lake. I've held onto it for all this time, liking it for the funkiness...
The appraiser said it would likely be the most interesting piece of furniture they'd see all day. Best part: Her paintings, given to her by one of her BFF's, should be insured for $1K to $1.5K each... and the weird chair for $4.5K at least!
WOOHOOO!!!
Dude also said that if they were put up for auction, they could potentially go quite a bit higher...
The paintings are actually very beautiful. Runci captures a mood so strongly in each of them... quite diggable!
And, yes, the chair is as comfortable to sit in as it is weird looking. Given what I know now about its value, I'll not be sitting in it much, if at all anymore! Better idea: Get these things sold, and take some $$$ to get my handed-down-from-my-grandpa old La-Z-Boy recliner re-upholstered and refurbished.
Matthew- there's a bar in Knoxville that has a great clown painting, morose looking and smoking a cigar stump... I've ALWAYS wanted that painting. Now, go watch Killer Klowns from Outer Space, good buddy, and you'll be fine...
Here's a link to a video story about the event... at about the 3 minute mark you'll see me chatting with the appraiser. Before that you will see a couple of shots of my sweetie's paintings, along with my Ty Wilson lithograph, which wasn't worth much at all.
We met with the appraiser, gonna set things up for a big whoop-tee-do auction coming up in July- apparently a twice-annual affair that's held live, online, and watched by collectors worldwide.
Cool beans! At any rate, if anyone here happens to run across any relevant info that I've not been able to dredge up, holla!
