Lafayette? I'm friends with him on Facebook, and he just posted ~5 hours ago. Some things happen very suddenly, but maybe this was a miscommunication? I believe he and his wife had just moved to be close to their daughter, and he'd put his very farkled and very ridden S3 up for sale. |

I met Lafayette several years ago after buying my first Buell, a Blast. He rode with the local Buell rider's club, and invited me to join up. A great guy with a voice like a cross between FogHorn LegHorn and a Cajun wise man. Knew his Buells and Harleys. Knew everybody in the industry and loved nothing better than sharing his knowledge. He called me often when I was sick. The world is less without him. Godspeed Lafayette. |

Oh, Jeeze, he said he was selling his bike due to health reasons but I didn't realize it was that kind of serious. RIP, Buellistic, you made this Board fun. |

Wow. That's a bit of a shock. I met him locally here as he was passing through. An interesting fellow with a well traveled bike. He did attempt to get me out to some group rides, but I'm a solo ridin' kinda guy. I think I still have a saved email about some on board O2 sensor instrumentation ideas. He was all about maintenance tricks and reliability mods. I was all about go faster stuff. He liked sharing ideas. |

Very sad to read of his passing. I swear he was on every topic here with his 101 course offerings. I'd love to see Buellistic's courses put in a handbook for Buellers. R.I.P. |

Snap!!!! Oh geez - he was helpful, cantankerous, insightful, humorous, wise and a lot of fun to talk to. I've talked with him on line and on phone, and have always smiled at his antics. The help through the years on the badweb a treasure, and now a treasured memory. A true rider, and fan of Buells - I shall miss his presence. RIP Laf. EZ |

I remember sitting with him in the stands watching the Daytona 200 in 2006, That was the year that Buell entered the XBRR, and the bikes had drivetrain problems. After the last RR broke, he got bored with the race and left before the finish. In 2008, Andrea (my step daughter) gave him the Loud Fans T shirt we had made for someone else who didn't show for Homecoming. She liked him and was glad that she got to give him one of the shirts. I liked him. He was a character, but he had character. My kind of guy. |

Lafayette was instrumental in getting we few Buell riders together in South Carolina, which eventually led to our "Buells in the Alps" meet every year in North Carolina. Our first meet back about 2007 was instigated by him when he was visiting Columbia, SC. A year later, we had a meet here in Charleston. We all met for breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then went for a ride. I wound up leading the ride up through Francis Marion National Forest until we wound up at a convenience store/truck stop in the little town of Jamestown, SC. As we were getting off our bikes a couple of guys came riding up on LOUD Harleys, one of them a trike. The guy riding the trike looked to be about 55, had on an obvious toupee, and a girl on the back. Of course he had to do a lot of extra revving as he pulled up next to Lafayette, who'd just gotten off his bike and removed his helmet. After the Harley rider shut off his bike, Lafayette (who was NOT a spring chicken) looked over at the guy and loudly said "Huh. That's pretty nice. I might have to get me one of them when I get old." We cracked up. (Message edited by Hughlysses on March 11, 2016) |

I met Lafayette at HC 2008. Actually he introduced himself with a big smile and "You know who I am?" I didn't, then asked, Mr. Grumpy? "No. I'm Buellistic" and I knew right away he was Lafayette from the Old School threads I'd been following. Yes, quite a character, the world is a little less interesting with his passing. He was my GO TO guy with any question about my M2. The first time I talked to him he was so excited that I had called he got to talking so fast that his wife had to yell at him to slow because that "poor Wisconsin Boy" couldn't hardly understand him. What a wealth of knowledge he had about Buells. Pegs down and God speed... |

One buddy had a stroke a couple weeks back, yesterday another had a heart attack. It's gotten me in a reflective mood. I don't know why but even though I never knew, or even met Buellistic, I'm still saddened by the news. It's like I've lost a friend I haven't met yet, if that makes any sense at all. Strange how this forum, and the people on it, get under your skin. |
