So I'm flipping through some new Buell material that I just bought and came across some information that I heard firsthand while eating ribs with some fine folks. Hmmmmm Interesting story, remind him to tell you about it one day.

Gotta love scans of beat up, old timey, print film...
I almost think that might be at the event in question, but who knows... 1313 |

I bet doing a Lap of America on an S2-T was the Bee's Knees. I wonder if EBR needs somebody to ride a Lap of America on an 1190 SX? |

Crusty, I'm sure a few of us would sign up for that! |

The more exciting part is that there was no such thing as an S2T at the time. :-) |

Maybe not by that designation, but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably ain't a parakeet. |

>>>t probably ain't a parakeet. It was not . . . it was a PROTOTYPE. Turned out to be a keen idea. The first thing I did was run the bags to and fro between Topeka and St. Louis several times to see what worked and what didn't. The original design . . . which was short lived . . .had the bags hanging from the front forks. Ugly as hell but great handling. I had the REAL adventures with the early bags . . . .the classic, without a doubt, was in Wyoming. Remind me to tell you sometime . . . :-) |

Wyoming was my first interstate trip breaking in Loretta. I stopped for coffee and called home. No I'm not in Colorado, I'm in Wyoming. Be home in an hour.

"No I'm not in Colorado, I'm in Wyoming. Be home in an hour." Ummm... "The original design . . . which was short lived . . .had the bags hanging from the front forks. Ugly as hell but great handling." I agree, prolly FUGLY, but- great handling? That's completely counter-intuitive. |

Do any photos exist of that setup? I am intrigued. |

I thought I recalled seeing a patent with drawings showing the 'front mounted bags'. It may have been posted somewhere on here a handful of years back. |

Um... front mounted bags? That doesn't sound good at all. Putting more wind resistance at the front of a motorcycle seems wrong.

Look at a rain drop. The fattest part is at the leading area, then it tapers off. It may seem wrong, but reality and perceptions often differ. |

There is a major difference here. Your raindrop is falling, whereas a motorcycle is being propelled from the rear. Also, raindrops don't have steering. |

Front saddlebags? Did they look like pods? |

Who is Courtney? I made him up, he is my alter ego, I'm the calm reasoned one and he does all the wild crazy stuff Actually Court is, like me, one of the really OLLLDDD Buellers having worked with Erik going back to the 80's. Lots of good stories to tell many of which should not be on the internet but over a couple of beers Court and I are willing to tell some li...I mean tales. Hence the famous Court line "remind me to tell you" How about the Erik designed VR bike and the state trooper? Buy me a beer and ask me about it. |

Lots of advantages with front, or more properly side, mounted luggage. A lot to do with "mass centralization" and some aero advantages. Looks, perception, and custom sorta went against it as did the need to do a lot of expensive development work for a pretty small market share. |

How about the Erik designed VR bike and the state trooper? Buy me a beer and ask me about it. It's easily worth the price of a beer or two to hear that. Are you going to be at Homecoming? |

>>>it probably ain't a parakeet. It was not . . . it was a PROTOTYPE. Parakeet, Prototype, they all look the same at Closing Time. I still bet it was one hell of a rush doing that Ride. |

>>>>There is a major difference here. There is a HUGE difference . . . you are thinking SUPERSONIC . . .who different show. Looks at the fairing on a Buell RR-1000 . . . .the most aerodynamic vehicle EVER made (that claim may no longer hold) and you'll start asking questions. It's not a case of small and pointy . . it's a case of neatly putting back together the air ya tore up. Remind me to tell you what all this has to do with a Freightliner radiator. What . . ? ? ? ? . . I thought I was the quiet reasoned one? I hold Martin Brown, the red headed Astronaut, accountable for my problems with Trooper Mcclellan . . . who0 I am quite certain 1313 is familiar with. |
