I know a lot about the Fiesta, and it shares a couple common parts, ask away.

If it's classified as a motorcycle, then I suppose, just like the Slingshot, it can't be registered in CT. It does look like a fun little buggy, though, and should have more traction being front wheel drive.

The weight of the vehicle also matters. Polaris was having a lot of issues with this around the Slingshot. They did not want car status because there are so many more regulations and requirements. They wanted a larger motor but it put them over weight for trike status along with many other things. That's what they are going turbo charged.

I had a 2010 and a 2012 Focus.

Both were incredible cars.

2013 Escape will roll over 100,000 about Wednesday this week. Best car I have ever had.

I've looked at:

Porsche Macan - styling similar to the Escape - pricey

Subaru Outback (top ranked 4wd drive of all vehicles made)

Mercedes-Benz 250GLA - inexpensive, stylish and cargo capacity on par with the Escape

And . . . .am waiting on the "freshened" 2017 Escape which hits dealers in about a month.

At this point . . . the Escape is in the lead . . . it has ALL the features that all the others have . . killer power . . incredible 4WD . . .lots of cargo and the one I am most concerned about . . . it's short.

I park in NYC every night. I watched a guy try to put an Outback in a place the other night . . . not even close. He pulled away in frustration, I whipped a U-turn, hit the "auto park" and poof . . it was in.

The new Fords are truly world class vehicles.

Since I put a deposit on an Elio I have been receiving emails from them with the company's latest news. Here's what I got today.

Earlier today, Elio Motors made a big free-agent signing of its own, adding Roush as the lead engineering partner. Paul Elio compared it to a baseball team signing a superstar free agent to get them one step closer to a championship.

Cool

I thought they had a working design ready for sale? Why spend the money for an engineering firm before pushing out product?

Getting a few out on the streets would certainly increase interest and might be worth taking a small loss on CNC pieces where cast production pieces would be used.

Like I've said to every person with that same attitude, I've spent more on less.

Also to be duped means you expect more than you've received. Go look at my posts and you will see that, as far as I'm concerned, no one is being duped.

They won't start production next year either. It'll be AT LEAST another 2 years before we see any cars on an assembly line.

Meh. Those cars are already out there. 40+ mpg is readily available. What these guys are trying to bring to the party is the cost factor. Whether that entices people driving 17 mpg SUVs to make a purchase remains to be seen.

Speaking of idiots in large vehicles, I walked out of Home Depot yesterday just in time to see someone in a truck that was obviously too large for them run into the lights on my trailer while trying to back out of a space. I confronted him. He proceeded to back up anyway, tearing off the light housing, and hitting the car parked behind him with the load of lumber he had hanging out of the short bed on his quad cab truck.

Sigh. That is all.

I am where old vehicles go to die.

When I got the 2008 F150, I remarked to Sunny that this is likely the last 4 wheel vehicle I'll buy in my life. She gets the next one when her Saturn SC1 gives out (near 400K miles on the original engine and tranny.

I can't write off new vehicle purchases so I just run 'em til they're gone.

Speaking of mileage, Sunny's Saturn with 380K miles STILL gets over 38MPG on the run to Phoenix.

New bikes, yep. New airplane, yep (in the plan) - new 4-wheel vehicles... no need, they still meet needs. Motorcycles? I lost count!

Latest Elio email.....

Elio Motors Springs Forward with 100 Pre-Production Vehicles

Spring forward.

It’s a message that was tough to miss last week. Television, radio, social media – there seemed to be constant reminders everywhere to move our clocks an hour forward for Daylight Savings Time.

But in Elio Motors’ home state of Arizona, there is no Daylight Savings Time. Without clocks to change, the Elio Motors team had to find our own unique way to “Spring Forward.”

And, we did it in a big way.

Last Friday, Elio Motors made one of the most significant announcements in its history. We will sell 100 pre-production vehicles to one or more fleet customers fourth quarter of 2016. In addition, the vehicles will be assembled in our Shreveport facility. Putting these vehicles on the road with real people behind the wheel will allow us to accomplish some important goals. It will allow us to evaluate our design under real-world driving conditions and it will allow our engineering team to refine our design, making the end product even better for our customers.

These positive outcomes are progressive steps forward that bring us closer to production.

In our original Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, we said we’d use these 100 vehicles for internal purposes. When we realized how much we could accomplish by putting them in the hands of fleet customers and evaluating them in real-world conditions, however, this new approach made sense.

The pre-production vehicles will allow Roush, which was named lead engineering partner last week, to provide a quieter, smoother vehicle with refined driving characteristics. Ultimately, this makes for a better vehicle and will raise customer satisfaction with the final production vehicle.

In addition to moving forward with fleet sales, we also are pursuing several financial strategies to get us to the finish line. In fact, Paul Elio attended the 28th Annual ROTH Conference, put on by ROTH Capital Partners last week. He met with and presented to several potential investors. Although it’s too soon to tell what progress was made, we know there is an appetite to invest in the company. The successful Regulation A+ stock offering, combined with our launch of shares on the OTCQX market was another important milestone – or spring forward, if you will – for the company.

When we take a peek over our shoulder to see how far we’ve come, the progress so far in 2016 has been remarkable. Our financial position has improved, we are building engineering prototypes, and we plan to fire up our factory for the first time later this year.

There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are gaining velocity every day and are excited for what the rest of 2016 will bring. As an Elio Motors fan, you are part of the very fabric of our company. We are literally changing the world and we hope you will continue to spread our message to your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and anyone else you think would love an Elio. Thanks again for your support!

I still don't understand why they aren't moving forward selling real vehicles that are hand assembled. If they can produce 100, then they can supply the customers who paid the deposit. Even if they are hand hammering the panels, I don't see why they aren't producing product.

We've seen the rise and fall and rise of a motorcycle company with less money than these guys are playing with, playing it seem is the keyword here. Build the damn vehicles already.

That article pretty well confirms Ford's position. They NEEDED GM, a company in far worse shape than Ford, bailed out .....primarily due to the common suppliers.

GM going down the tubes would likely have sucked Ford in the vortex.

I like the story line but I buy my Fords simply based on quality. My 2013 turned over 100,000 miles yesterday and could pass for new. Fabulous performance, features, handling 4wd and tech.

I've looked at 5 vehicles as I evaluate replacing it. The Ford continues to come up in the top 2 in my evaluation.

But..... There is a lot of good stuff out there in the small SUV market at the moment.

Well, in my defense, I could have at least been out on the floor assembling a few of those suckers. I'm sure Roush was put on to fix some issues, and to figure out how to make an assembly line and make it work. They need to do both get the line up and working, and get early units into paying customer's hands. Screw the fleet people, the consumer can and will give better feedback into what needs to happen, what would be nice, and what they can live without.

These things can't be much more difficult to get running than a motorcycle, how many tens of millions did Erik have when he got EBR running? The body panels are probably the only thing more difficult to make, even if there are made out of plastic. A tube frame would go a long way to getting product out, and keeping it light and rigid. Think Ariel Atom but with real bodywork. The delays have people doubting they are a real company, it's been too long and starting to be a mockery in the press. Find a way (including hand building) and ship some product.

And yes I want it to succeed, I'd buy one if it was on the market (really on the market) right now. I'd also get the smallest DOT "cap" I could find to wear when driving it. Or maybe I'd get one of the helmets that look like fighter pilot helmets and rig up an air hose to complete the look. Maybe a Bell Rogue helmet for those menacing days.

"I like the story line but I buy my Fords simply based on quality. "

Your post here about your focus a few years ago was what made me take notice and even consider it a competitor to the VW I am still completely satisfied with. The no bailout was the clincher. If it hadn't been for that, she'd be driving a golf or a jetta right now.
