Is American Sport Bike still taking orders? I checked their site a while back and it looked like they weren't taking any more orders. |

American Sport Bike is still taking orders. I have ordered a comprehensive Buell Ulysses Survival Kit from Al & Joanne. I want to keep my Ulysses. It was a birthday gift in 2008 and, even though it hasn't been ridden in a couple years, I love it and it's kinda sentimental. In addition, they bring nothing near their value as used bikes and it'd cost me $20K to get the BMW I'd replace it with. To that end . . . I'd like to keep if healthy for another 20 years so I ordered all those things that have a high likelihood of, once supplies are exhausted, of not being manufactured again. There are a couple parts on a Ulysses, at present, that if the part fails you have yourself a gorgeous paper weight with luggage. So . . . I ordered a couple pages of those items considered to be the most likely to become critical. THINKING BEHIND SPENDING THE $$: Sure, it was a few bucks . . . but some of the parts on the list have already tripled in price in the last year as supplies dwindled. I ended up buying several pages worth of stuff but . . . as a simple example . . . if you had only $200 to spend and had a Ulysses . . . I'd spend it on front and rear isolators first. Once those go, the bike is a big boat anchor if there isn't a spare to install in its place. They are difficult to source without a big purchase contract. In addition, if I go to sell my Ulysses . . . . I have a shipping container with ALL the "strategic parts kit" that the new owner can buy or not buy as suits their taste. If they don't buy it, I can likely (at least) double my money parting out the kit or selling it intact. Just a bit of strategic thinking . . . call me a chicken. Short answer . . . American Sport Bike is open for business . .. for a bit longer. |

TOTAL DISCLOSURE: In the event anyone thought I was smart enough to do that stage parts kit myself . . . I confess I got the idea at a Super Bowl party from a man who'd been drinking heavily. He's been the source of much wisdom . . . including recommending a fine dining establishment this last Wednesday . . over the years. I follow smart folks around and just do what they do. . . . generally the more they drink the smarter we all appear. Just saying . . . . (Message edited by court on February 19, 2016) |

I published our closure timing in the American Sport Bike section earlier this week, here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/775384.html?1455750219 But it's worth repeating here. At this time, it looks like the web shop will shut down on 4/15/2016. We'll be taking orders and shipping stuff that is in stock up until that time. We'll stop taking orders for items that aren't in stock and requires us to order the item on approximately 3/25/2016. In the meantime, if there is something that you need and don't see it on the web site, contact us and we can still order it for you. We are trying to dwindle our stock down to nothing, so in the past where we might have had 3 or 4 sets of throttle cables for any given model on hand, we're now keeping one set and ordering as soon as they sell. So if you need something REALLY fast, you might want to send an email and check stock first. We're pretty good about getting an answer back within hours on weekdays. But if you see it on the website, it's likely in stock (other than wheels and a few other large high dollar items). I plan on keeping my Uly for a while, so I created my own stash of parts to make that happen. I created another stash for my S1W. Thanks for the support, Al} (Message edited by al_lighton on February 20, 2016) |

Nilla, I didn't order a lot. My biggest concern was making sure that I have a spare belt on the shelf. That won't be the first rare part. However, it puts you at Harley's supply system. I don't want that during prime riding weather. My funds are limited for now, If I didn't have a spare front isolator on my shelf that would be my #1 purchase. I'm switching over to a Mosfet FH020AA from the OEM voltage regulator. Otherwise a spare VR would have been on the list. My dream was a red three bearing rear wheel but, that's not happening right now. Simplest thing to do is go to American Sport Bike's website and bring up your bike and go through all the parts putting your wish list together in the cart. Then go through your cart when that is done and sort it out. Al, THANK YOU! |
