Ok
So dont know how many people have followed bmx street. But Dave Mirra is a god. My younger son who is 18 has idolized him since he was 3 and I mean idolize this guy was all over his walls up to a couple years ago. My son comes down last night in tears shaking says Dad Dave Mirra is dead he killed himself!
We are utterly stunned by this. He had a kings life a wife and 2 kids net worth over 15 mil. I do not know what can bring someone to this. I suffer from severe depression and have some hard times so I get it but damn people talk to soneone anyone!!!!
RIP Mirracle Man!

It's a shame that anybody feels so overwhelmed by life that they decide to end it...

All we can do now is pray for his family.

Such a shame man. I grew up racing BMX, idolizing this guy. Then I started racing and founding a rallyx org, and started following Mirra there.

Sad man. He had everything, just goes to show that material goods don't outweight demons inside.

A huge fan and he helped shaped my son. At 3 all my son would talk about was Dave Mirra and it never ended he is 18 now. Dave is tge reason my son was in Bmx and made a good run at it till I got hurt and he was in 9 th grade. Where did you race Bmx maybe you raced with Logan no fear paige or twisted tanner paige? Both raced nationally!

If someone suffers or even has thoughts of depression etc talk with others call someone! I suffer from it and it can be overwhelming.

Dang.

Prayers up to Mirra's family and friends... I really hate to hear of this. I wasn't ever really a fan or follower, but I've known of him all these years.

Ken- thanks for sayin', and keep your chin up. I can't ever say I've dealt with chronic depression, but it has touched me- over the years I've had bouts of melancholy from time to time. I do know that folks can find a dark, deep "hole", go in, and never find the way out, like Mirra, Robin Williams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, et al- fact of the matter is I would have never met my sweetheart that I've lived with for about 10 years now, but for the fact that her estranged husband decided to do the same thing that Mirra did. It fractured her life and ruined her finances, caused her to lose her home, and a long list of crap... time passed, and she met me. Life is weird. But I DO understand depression.

My motto is "_____ sucks- as long as is doesn't suck too bad." ; )

s1owner, I raced in and around Indianapolis, names don't sound familiar. I did it while I was racing motocross, and MX took the priority.

Having served in the military, Iraq 2x, I've lost some friends to suicide. Such a shame. I could write for hours about it.

I wonder what was tormenting him to have that many victories in life and still feel enough despair to end it all.

Thanks squid. It is weird you can be sitting there with everything great in your life have money and no reason for sorrow but it puts a net on you holds you down and there is really no explaining it. I have sat on my couch looking at my great family peting my dog enjoying my motorcycle in the house I built with my two hands and just started crying in sadness no ryme or reason. I at least know where mine comes from what caused it and that helps me be able to deal with it. Most cannot say that.

I am finding out through small communications that he may have had severe concussion syndrome issues causing depression. With his life I could see that as a huge possibility.

That theory makes sense. Multiple concussions causing brain damage leading to a chemical imbalance...

Rest in peace, Dave. We're gonna miss ya

We tend to try to apply "normal" thinking to mental issues that defy that thinking. There are times, in an otherwise halcyon existence, that I wake up screaming and crying over memories from when I got shot.

I, like S1, have the luxury of knowing the source of my demons and that helps manage things.

The common things .... $$$.... Great family .... Great job .... Etc..... Mean nothing in depression.

I was not familiar with him but the events sadden me.

What is life without the struggle?

Money certainly doesn't buy everything.

Fame and fortune can certainly have consequences.

It's definitely unexpected and quite a shame.

Who knows what was going on in his personal life.

He's definitely not a person one would expect to do such a thing...but I guess they never are.

For those of you who do not know if Dave here are some links and stories to tell a little about him. He inspired generations of bike and motocross stunt riders
