Our web administrator updated the OLD version of php on his server which unfortunately broke our photo album. Since the script was something we found on the internet, and the developer had abandoned the project we were left with coming up with our own replacement (no one in the club knows php). Fortunately, I had a script that we were already using on another site that I just had to adapt for our main page's directory structure and layout. In the process, I got to "revisit" our club's past (this year is our 30th Anniversary and I've been with them for 29 of those years). I found old photos of track days and rides I'd taken with all three of my Buells. Ergonomically, the 2000 M2 Cyclone was the best of them all. I could sit on it for HOURS at a time without discomfort, which was good because of all three Buells I'd owned, it was the only one capable of 200+ miles on a tank of fuel. As long time readers know, however, that bike spent nearly as much time in the shop as it did on the road. The next bike was the 2006 XB12Ss Lightning Long that I picked up in late 2005. It was ALMOST as comfortable as the Cyclone (I should've installed the Uly footpegs, I think that would've fixed my sole ergonomic complaint with that bike) and was MUCH more reliable. I only had one issue with it; the regulator/rectifier gave up the ghost when I was on my way to getting my hair cut. Other than that, it was pretty problem-free. By the time I traded it in, it had a nice custom paint job, the black/orange sport seat, bar end mirrors and all of the black plastic bits were replaced with CF parts from American Sport Bike and Trojan Horse. This is the one I most regret trading in. Finally there was the 2009 1125R. A BEAST of a bike, it remains the most powerful and best handling bike I've ever owned. It was also MISERABLY uncomfortable in traffic (where it sadly spend most of its time) and got LOUSY gas mileage. I might've hung onto it had my local dealer not given up the Buell franchise two weeks before Harley shut down the brand altogether. The only other servicing dealer was not only an inconvenient distance away, but he was more expensive and did LOUSY work. There are times I still wish I had that Lightning, but I've moved on. I do hope that EBR's new owners fully revive the brand and start cranking out new models soon. They'll always be high on my "Dream List." |
