Wasabi peas are great for road trips driving. Easy to stay away with a mouthful of them. : )

The Siracha movie is on Netflix. It's a fun 30 minutes. Awesome back story to an awesome sauce.

Taste is taste. People like different.... which is great.

Regular Tabasco is fairly one dimensional. I like the Chipotle and the Habenero is ok too.

As a self admitted wimp, I like roasted peppers which cools the heat and adds flavor.

Flavor is more important than heat to me, and there are some things that really go well together.

Like Chocolate and pepper. I mixed up some grilled roasted scotch bonnets, ( scraped off the burnt skins as http://www.cookscountry.com/episode/478-fried-chic ken-and-grilled-peppers?ref=Episode_browse_8 shows ) mashed into some melted Ghirardelli 60% chocolate chips, ( melted in microwave ) and dipped some strawberries..... and took them to a party with a printed skull and crossbones warning label.

Some folk raved, others cursed and fled.

Like all things human, it's a range.

I make a drink in the summer that has been a hit. No alcohol. I named it a Space Monkey.

Pineapple juice
Orange juice
apple juice
lemon juice
lime juice
mixed together, poured over crushed ice, garnish with lime, sprinkle with hot sauce of your choice ( default sauce is three drops habanero )

This is a great hot weather sipping drink. Sip the cold. The heat in the throat feels like alcohol. Temp climbs and hit the crushed ice drink for the cool. ,Space Monkey

Today was grocery day, picked up some sriracha. Not as hot as I expected, but great flavor and great for dipping.

Some years back, a group of jokers at our campground came up with "Strawberry Surprise", a drink that they would give you a token ( coin ) if you drank the whole thing.

Vodka and pepper spray ( dog spray ) "Surprise! there's no Strawberries!"

Now that's just abusive. But to be fair, I don't like Vodka.

I grew up on the orange groves of Florida. There are two varieties of pepper that grow wild in the groves. Tiny round peppers and tiny enlongated peppers. We call them simply "grove peppers". Tiny. The round ones are maybe 1/4" and the long ones maybe 3/4".

Dad would bring them home and pickle them. Brutally hot. Mouth blistering hot. Dad would put two tablespoons full of peppers and juice on his greens. Sitting at the same table made my eyes water. I would dip the tip of my spoon in the juice, and stir my my greens. Sometimes that was too hot.
I grow cayenne peppers. Perfect for me.

Fast, see if you can find "golden cayenne"- we've grown them in past years, hot and great flavor!

I don't go were you guys do in search of spicy flavors. I like hot wings from Hooters, and a shot of Franks Hot Sauce now and again. I don't seek out sinus burning stuff.

I learned the other day that those little snap shut shaker lids on the Franks Hot Sauce can have a nasty side. It was turned towards my face when it snapped closed and I got a splash mist of that fine tasting stuff in my eyes. Yowsers! That'll slam your eyes shut! I should stop eating burritos for breakfast when I am not awake yet.

Many years ago my mother was canning some super hot peppers that she grew in her garden. The seeds were a gift from some friend of hers. I don't know what they were but she burned her hands so bad she nearly ended up going to the hospital. Someone here mentioned how fat will neutralize the heat somewhat. She put her hands in cold water first and that made it worse, then one of my aunts told her to rub her hands down with butter. Then she found out that whipped water based butter is not real enough to work, so she ended up using bacon to rub on her hands. That took her a couple of weeks to get over.

Fat doesn't neutralize the heat. It is used to carry it away. The oils are not water soluble. Water just runs off without removing them. Rub with cooking oil and wash away with soap. Then water. The water will only remove the emulsified oils.

Use gloves. Multiple anecdotal warnings above.

For internal use. Ice cream. Full fat preferred.

Other than dilution with dairy I don't have a solution for the later ( & lower ) burn. : )

I grew up in South Texas and eating hot stuff was a rite of passage.
I figured out that sugar water killed the heat, much faster than milk.

I later realized I could do the same with "Texas sweet tea", heavy on the sweet side.

I love the flavor of many of the hot peppers but see no sense in "hot for hot's sake".

Interesting tidbit, capsaicin interacts with your 'holy crap, I'm on fire' pain receptors, and lowers the temperature threshold of pain to just below body temperature. Since your mouth is almost body temperature all the time, you feel like you're being burned. It's all in your head.

Well, my belly and butt have been in some pain that's felt quite real.

It's easy to forget that it's hot going out as well.

A couple of days ago my GF and I decided to make a big batch of hot pepper relish... ended up with about 8 jars. Assorted frozen hot peppers were thawed, chopped WITH seeds, combined with random ingredients to somehow "tame" the stuff a bit, and a good amount of lime juice to slow the heat another bit...

We made a batch of hot wings in our T-Fal Actifry air fryer last nite... used the KC Masterpiece Habanero Honey BBQ sauce with a big dollop of our pepper relish, some added Sriracha dry spice, some other hot pepper spice, fresh black pepper... YUM! We had a sticky mess of awesomeness...
