I'd only seen the $5 or $6 per gallon DEF, and have read (maybe erroneously?) that guys have to refill the DEF tank every time they fill their fuel tank. That's where I saw the pain coming in. |

I wouldn't recommend buying the DEF at the store unless you're sure of the expiration date. The DEF does have a shelf life. I'd get it at the pump if possible so you can be sure it's fresh. |

[DEF] Costs $17 a year. Unless you're towing - then it drinks the stuff like a freshman at a frat party. Still, the cost is not really a factor. |

My newer trucks and sprinters run through def fluid pretty fast. We put about a gallon a week into my newest sprinter. The big trucks take a 30 gallon fill up about every other tank of diesel. |

2005 VW Passat diesel, 2 liter turbo 4-cylinder. Right at 160K miles. Only gets about 33 to 35 on highway though. Sounds like a tractor running Newest one is a 2014 BMW 328d. 2 liter turbo 4 cylinder that gets 45. Handles and drives like a sports car, but gets mileage like a hybrid. Very quiet motor. |

My 2008 Duramax with the summer steamrollers on it. just rolled 70,000 miles. mostly stock. just wheels, leveling kit, turbo back exhaust, intake and efi live. i bought an 84 vdub to flip awhile back. diesel with a stick. friend stumbled across it for $800. i put in injectors, an oil pump, painted the wheels and bought center caps... knowing they have a cult following... needless to say i only had it for sale for a week or so and MORE then quadrupled my money. it was a fun little car while i had it though. Still waiting on someone to make a diesel electric hybrid motorcycle.... I kinda hope no one makes one for the next 20 years. Should give me time to retire from the Army, get an engineering degree, and fulfill my dream of going to work for Zero or whoever is on the cutting edge of electric moto then. Castles in the sky? Yeah, probably so. |

Filled my def today. First time since a year ago, as usual. $17.39, at $2.79/gal (flying j truck stop). Filled here in FL since I'm down here, and it pumps a LOT faster at 75 degrees ambient than it does at 7 degrees back home. |
