I would pay off my co-workers cars, quit my job (of course), pay off my house, pay off all of the relative's houses and then go for a very long motorcycle ride.
And buy a new EBR (or a leftover if that's all that's available) but only if they throw in a tee shirt.

I'd keep 10 to 20% and rent a penthouse suite from Trump for 6 months and have his people help me organize the rest of the money for the charities and donations.

With my money, I would buy a new home or 2, and one or 2 modest vacations homes, do a few trips overseas... then maybe buy a cattle ranch that's down the road from a winery that's within a few miles of a mushroom farm (Not necessarily in the USA)

Statistically my odds of winning eleventy billion dollars are exactly the same as winning the lotto.

It may be over rated, but it would bankroll the rib trip. Getting rid of a quarter billion dollars would be a full time job.

Honestly, after making sure that my family and myself are all well taken care of, I would probably set up a charity to benefit military vets in perpetuity. I simply have no need for that much, and others are far more deserving.

Good tax break too. ; )

Seriously, a "vast" sum of money, in the Billion buck range, is Yacht territory. The wealth, if handled correctly, has a life of it's own. Should be self sustaining, and grow for future generations.

Face it, at a certain number, even CD's at 1% generate money faster than a former 2 1/2 men star can spend it on coke. Sure, if you want to collect race cars or yachts, you can burn through a Billion in a hurry, And financing your own Orbital Hilton?

As noted above, Huge Money also makes you a target. All sorts of scam artists. Investments, Politicians, Cults, etc.

A burden and a boon. No gift without a price?

But, heck, most of my time on Craigslist is punctuated by singing "if I win the Lotto" ( to the tune of "If I Were A Rich Man" ) off key.... La da da da dee dee dee dum....

I've always "coveted" a more meager amount in Lotto winnings. About a 7-15 Million prize.

I'd split it with my sister, Personal & tax reasons, pay off some relative's debt, splash some at a few charities, and invest for a lifestyle cost not too different than I have now, except that instead of work, I'd be back in School.

I'd build the Dirk Pitt Garage either here or in Texas, maybe, if they'll take an Olde Liberal at some Flight park. Someplace with nice flying/riding weather, & a good aerospace engineering school. A place to Teach as well as learn. ( metal working classes are fun to give. "The English Wheel is a tool for making blood squirt out of the ends of your fingers." )

A close buddy's Dream Project is a ( His Name Memorial ) Velodrome.

Indoor Wood Board Track, "Board Bikes ONLY! keep your filthy road bikes outside!" ( that's a Quote ) and an outdoor, open to the Public moderately banked track.

He figures it would bring a lot of business to the city, a sporting center with decent facilities.

Money complicates. I have no interest in being filthy rich. I'm content with just enough to pay bills and have a little fun.

Going over my plans with the wife (who played) she immediately spoke of me keeping my job, getting a lawyer, hiring an investment consultant, and setting up a small allowance for me.

Good thing she didn't win.

Pwnzor, I saw that thing in Nassau in 2012. Holy. Crap. It was passing us and just kept passing up. It's HUGE.

This...

Or this???

I know I would get more satisfaction from sailing the ketch over motoring around in the uber-yacht. I already live in a house that's far bigger than I need. I'm actually looking to downsize the house, but upsize the room for toys. Think about why we ride motorcycles. Is a huge yacht like that going to give that kind of satisfaction? It wouldn't for me. Then again, someone thinks they need it. Maybe they are compensating for something?

You see all those smaller boats that come out of the back end?

The big one is just for crossing oceans and such. The little ones come out to play! Pretty sure that big one can carry motorcycles too.

One of our long time Badweb regulars bought 2 rather large boats ..... Sold both homes and most possessions ( including a literal "boat load" of guitars and amps) and sat upon living on the high seas.

I follow his tracker and progress daily.

He did it right.

In typical "bike guy" fashion.....my greatest fascination is what he did ....as an amateur engineer.... With the various power, navigation and comm systems. Looks like the flight deck of a Lear jet.

Any bigger boat would be a waste.

I'd rather go another direction...

May be hard to fish off, though

Right now I have enough stuff to fix.

Just as easy as fishing off my kayak. Strap a milk crate on the back seat. Hook everything to that.

I've seen big Ono and Mahi Mahi brought in on a windsurfer. No reason you couldn't do it from almost anything.

Pwnzor, I was at a restaurant and it was docking. I'd never seen anything like it.

I've caught and released a few hefty large mouth bass on my paddle board. It's slightly modified, with a seat and a 35 pound thrust trolling motor.

It is the perfect tool for fishing phosphate pits (AKA "farm ponds" in most fishing shows). My preferred targets are pan fish using an ultralight spinning reel with 2 pound test and lead head jigs with small chartreuse plastic grubs for bait.

I have a 7 pound 14 ounce bass on my wall caught on that rig. I released her, but she floated, dying from the 45 minute fight, so I had her mounted.

I, on occasion keep a half dozen Black Crappie (AKA Specks, or Speckled Perch down here.) for the skillet.

Oh, and if I won that much money, I would be spending A LOT of time on the water fishing and building habitat in my own private phosphate pit. There is a 400 acre parcel for sale here with a 102 acre phosphate pit, dug in 1959. Never fished except the elderly caretaker on occasion. Want to catch a half dozen bass over 10 pounds in a single trip?
