Thanks Tom, for my daily dose of AWESOME. Plus, got woke up by the FedEx dude, he handed me my two bottles of Elyse Zinfandel! Might finish the day with a viewing of Star Wars... Be good, friend! |

Years ago, I used to be in the habit of skateboarding the greenway here with my Basenji Loki- out and back about 5 miles. At night (I get off late in the restaurant biz) I'd often let him off-leash for the majority of the run, as there were few if any other people out. Of course he'd pick up the trail of a critter, but would never catch anything- towards the end of the return run there is a good hill I could really pick up serious speed, and I'd holler "Squirrel Boost!" which he knew meant during daylight there were tree rats to chase, and he'd take off full speed. Basenji's are FAST, I tell ya. One night we had just done the turnaround point to come back, and a long stretch of the greenway was dead straight, running by a nice creek. I was ahead of Loki, he'd stopped to sniff something, and I spotted something moving up ahead, maybe a raccoon, but seemed faster... I hollered "Squirrel Boost!" and he blazed past me, just as I caught a glimpse of red fur- it was a red fox! That dog was at 120% speed, but didn't catch the fox... it dove into the dense brush, which was home. Fun times. Also once spotted a hawk that had just nabbed another bird for dinner on the "SQ B" hill, resting to catch its breath, then it took off to go eat its snack. I really need to get back into the greenway habit, which I lost after fencing the yard... hey, it's a new year after all, no? |
