We went to Toowoomba and saw it at the Grand Central.

We liked it.

Same thing that bugged me Vern.

The very thing that may be keeping us alive, right now, as we broadcast that we are a sentient species far and wide into the galaxy, was completely glossed over.

The "it's far away", and by "far away" I mean "pop your brain far away" has been an important part of a lot of compelling stories and historical events.

It messed up the story line too. If anyone can punch a hyperdrive button and appear anywhere in the universe within the time span of a cut scene, then why bother building these mobile death stars anyway? Teleport a mountain into low earth orbit, and let the gravity well of the planet turn it into a planet killer. Nothing too it.

This will be the Star Wars version of the Star Trek "Spock" and "Data" problem. You invent a magically strong character, which is great fun when they are on your side, and then you have to start creating these ridiculous scenarios just to create any kind of tension.

Star Wars Episode 8... the holideck malfunction. : (

(But like I said, I'm OK with that as long as there are a lot of cool space ship flybys with good physics and good imagination... : ) )

One of the latter SciFi books I read had a nice precept to keep it interesting... it was that alien tech could basically hack just about any system pretty quickly, so it important to have things analog controlled on both sides. That was a nice way to keep the wizzards from ruining the story line.

"Waste of time" may have been too harsh . . . I enjoyed it and stayed awake (took me 4 times to stay awake through the original) which speaks volumes

I enjoyed it more than some of the super violent crap being floated and the AMC on84th has those huge recliners so it was at least comfy and fun.

Back to my museums and music today after the cars get serviced

Hyperspeed was there in Star Wars as a concept from the start. Teleportation was and is not.

It's its own universe. That what movies are, you scruffy looking nerf herders.

My kid really liked Kylo Ren's character until one scene where he did a really "mean" thing.

So, not a fan yet watch it so you can say you're still not a fan?

That's a bit bizarre.

Nope ..... A big fan. Ended up buying all the DVDs .... But the recent one seems pretty lame in comparison. It may just be that I was too tuned in to the original.

It was fun .... But I've no desire to see it again. If I still had the mutant offspring at home we'd...,I'm sure.... Be headed back time and time again.

"Elevator's not worthy."

The "weapon" in the movie is years predated by "Schlock Mercenary" a long time running online comic.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they stole it from there.
