One of my buddies said that his Pilot Road 4s developed some sort of handling problems after 4,000 miles and that he's not alone in reporting this. Has anyone tried these tires yet? I'm still on the Pilot Road 3s. Thanks. |

Local tire guy never has the 4's in stock... been riding on 3's for the last 4-5 years with no complaints. |

I never get more than 3500 miles out of mine. He must not be riding hard enough... |

Put 9000 miles on mine last year on a loaded up FJR. The rear was squared off because of a lack of curved roads and the front was starting to cup. They handled awesome in the rain - kind of like riding on squeegees. I confindently rode as fast in the wet as I do on dry roads. Put on another set as soon as I got home. |

yes, I run PR3's and recently PR4's on the 1125, Ninja, and sometimes the Tenere... I've never get many miles out of my back tires ;( usually get two back tires to one front. I do love the grip, both dry and wet pavement are confidence inspiring. |

I put a set of PR4s on our Uly's last summer for our AK road trip. (BuellVicariously.com) if anyone's interested. Here's the same rear on my '06 Uly today with 15,300 miles on it. It's just finally beginning to cord. BEST tire mileage I've even gotten by a long shot! (Usually get between 4-7k out of any given rear tires on these bikes.) The bike itself has 85,230 miles on it.

What kind of pressure do you guys run on the pilot road tires? |

Re the original question, a Google search doesn't show any unusual problems. Some reports of cupping. Your friend would be wise to do a 'handling check'. Tire pressure, wheel and steering bearings, suspension, ect. Dave |

It's hard to find a "bad" tire brand, from what I've heard even some of the retread outfits are at least passable. That said, just like shoes for your feet, it pays to buy the best. I've never heard of anyone not liking the Pilot brand. I'm running Bridgestone T30 S/T tires on the 955 ST Sprint, like them a lot. I'm still partial to Pirelli's, might do a set of Angels next time. |

Glad to hear nothing is amiss with the PR4s as I'll be buying some sooner or later. |

I have them on my Uly and they performed excellent on a trip to the Black Hills. We had wet roads along the way and never felt uneasy, even running at 80 mph. That's all the miles I have though, the 1000 miles there. It went home in a U-Haul due to pilot damage, the bikes fine! |

Personally I run 34 front and 30 rear. If my wife is on the back, I run 36/34. Average about 7000 miles per pair, wearing pretty evenly, and somebody else could probably put another 4k to 5k miles on them but that somebody wouldn't be me. |

I have run a PR II rear to 11,500 and it looked like the PR IV above. I got 19,000 out of the front. How did the PR III compare to the PR IV?? Anyone tried them both? |

The IV is supposed to have the same treadlife as a III, but with a change to the soft compound to give a more track-tire feel in the turns. I've had II, III, and now IV's. Awesome treadwear on all of them. I pulled a II off my S2 for the WVBR this year, and made the trip on a new IV. Loved it. Don't have enough miles on it yet to make a treadwear comment though, but fully-loaded on an S2 (all my gear for the 5 day trip) it handled awesome all the way out and back. I always run 38/40 psi. S1, M2, Uly, CR, S2, no matter. |

Holy cow, some of you fellas are gettin' some miles out of those tires. I've never had anything last more than 5k, and those had turned to hard plastic by then. Usually high mileage tires feel like crap because the profiles alter greaty. They get sharp edged on the sides, unless you ride like a nutter everywhere to keep them round. |

I have had both the III's and IV's on my S3 and neither one of them lasted for more than 6k miles. They lasted only slightly longer than the Conti-Road-Attacks I had on at one point, but were far less sticky. They were supposed to be good in the rain, but I didn't feel it (only rode in the rain about dozen times though). Before getting laid off, I commuted to work 99% of the time and my commute is half mountain twisties, half freeway. The Pilots also always developed cupping on both tires near the end of their life. I ran between 35-38 PSI. |

I managed to run a set of PR2s past 20K miles. They were very well used up at that point and had to be changed out while on a trip. They might have gotten me home, but I sure didn't feel good about the prospects. It took just the right combination of highway and twisties to accomplish that. I just put a set of 4s on the Buell this summer, but it turned out to be a rotten summer for my riding. I only got a couple thousand on them at this point, but they still look to be in great shape. BTW the PR2s that came off to put on the PR4s had the front worn out before the rear. First time I had done that. I'm curious. Those who wear these out in a hurry, do you wear out the edged or the center? If it's the edges, why not simply go with a cheaper single compound tire? |

Currently have about 5,000 miles on a set of PR4's and had PR3's for my last two previous Uly tire applications - - by far the best life I've gotten out of any tire (averaged 19K per set on the PR3's). . . Posted early this Spring about a "perceived" loss of wet capability between the PR4 and the PR3, here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/762675.html?1431717460 ... but can't say that I've had handling issues with the PR4's. I do feel that they are not as capable in the wet as the PR3's, but that's just my opinion . . . Running 36 Rear, 32 Front, FWIW. |

"I'm curious. Those who wear these out in a hurry, do you wear out the edged or the center? If it's the edges, why not simply go with a cheaper single compound tire?" Mine were down to the threads in the middle after 6k Miles. |

Naturally. Right after my praise of the PR4...I pull into the garage tonight and the S2 seems to be sitting a bit funny. Rear tire, flat as a pancake. Guess it's going on the lift this weekend with some soapy water, try and figure out what happened (or what I ran over).... |

Pirelli Scorpion Trail on the Big Guzzi which I'm quite happy with for the moment. Had PR 2s & 3s on both XB and M2 when I lived in France, absolutely loved them. The Pirelli Scorpion Syncs that the Super TT came shod with were pretty good, the back wore out the middle unsurprisingly, but front went triangular (too many mountain twisties). |
