I replied to your PM, thanks heaps, I'll be in touch!

The house is a mess but looking pretty bare. The Jeep is sold, most furniture is gone now. I need to stop going round in circles and get stuck into packing, the movers are here in a couple of days...

I'm doing a stop overnight in Los Angeles on Saturday then arrive in DC Sunday afternoon : D I've got a hotel apartment booked for 2 weeks in Falls Church VA, it seems like an okay place to start.

Zac - I will definitely head for the Rockies whenever I get the chance, Colorado and Utah are areas I really want to visit : )

I haven't been able to ski since I broke my neck in 2001, but Utah was better skiing back when...
Snowbird I believe was the best.
Almost hit a moose on the way up "the hill".

At the top was a full view of the Wasatch valley and Great Salt Lake.
Priceless

Crusty - I just sent you a PM : )

Damnut - Now that I'm going to be working in DC there's no immediate plans for Boston, but my boss is based there, and it's an area I really want to see, so I'm going to try and find a reason to head up that way soon!

3 more sleeps... It's sinking in now...
The movers arrive in the morning and I still haven't finished packing everything for them... One last visit to the dentist this afternoon to fix a tooth... I've been really lucky that I've had great help from a really good friend, and she's let me use her car too... She's incredibly awesome, and I'm going to miss her heaps... But adventures await...

Arrived Los Angeles without drama. My flight to Baltimore was cancelled and I've rebooked for Wednesday. I'll have to suffer the SoCal sunshine a few more days ; )

I hope everyone is doing ok on the east coast. I slept 14 hours last night, need to catch up on the weather and news and find out how much it snowed last night.

Missed an all-time record here by a mere 0.1" in terms of snow fall . . . I live at one of the busier intersections in Manhattan and it's been so nice with the traffic and trains shut down by police order.

Cars returned this morning at 0700 . . . but by then I was in Central Park on skis. Nobody has as much fun as New Yorker's in the snow.

I'm watching folks digging these cars out . . . they look like giant eggs covered in snow . . . . sure enough . .down in there somewhere . . . the reward of a couple hours (no kidding, hours) of shoveling . . . there is it.

I intend my next move to be the airport Friday and to LA for a week of sun and fun.

Graham; I got your package yesterday. Thank you very much! I would have responded sooner, but every time I pick up the book, I get drawn into another interesting looking ride, which leads into the next page, etc.

Enjoy your new gig in the east. I hear that there's good BBQ in the Washington DC area. (There's a lot of hot air, too)

Glad you're enjoying the book Crusty!

Well, I made it! Flew into hazy with peeks of sunshine Baltimore on Wednesday afternoon. I'd changed my rental booking to a mid-size SUV and ended up with a VW Tiguan... It's, ummm, competent. Like a Ford Escape with leather seats but slower ; ) But it is AWD and that's made me a little more comfortable.

While I've been skiing when I was younger, I've only ever seen snow in a resort/mountain context, so seeing snow in a city is a really unique thing for me and I think it'll take a while to lose it's novelty, even just taking photo's out the window...

So far I've had no real dramas driving. Almost all the roads are cleared in some way, though half a lane may still be snow. Drivers in DC seem ok, they communicate with the horn which is ok ; )

There have been dramas on site with work so I've been flat out since I got off the plane, but I finally met my boss face to face on Thursday when I picked him up from Reagan airport. We had to go to site (Dept of the Interior) on Thursday and Friday for meetings and I've got the parking thing sussed out, Parking Panda is my friend. It's like Uber for parking : D

I have a one bedroom furnished apartment in Falls Church, VA, paid by work for another week. I'm thinking I'll pay for it for another month myself to give myself some time to look around and find where I'd like to live for the next year, and buy some furniture. Seeing snow everywhere is so cool first thing in the morning...

I've got some work to catch up on this morning then time to go exploring this afternoon : D Might be catching up with Ishai tomorrow : D

Just thought I'd check in quickly, I'll write more on the weekend and post some pics...

Coping with the weather pretty well, finally found a decent, warm jacket! Caught up with Ishai last week for dinner, he is a good man, a very earthy soul : )
Work has been flat out, but have managed to find a cheap car (2001 Mustang) and signed a 6 month lease in the complex I'm already at in Falls Church. I've got the hang of the Metro too : )
So far so good, looking forward to the weather getting a little warmer so I can explore further, but still enjoying the novelty of snow : D

Heeeeeeyyyy... Wow, it's been a month since I said I'd post some photo's... oops... my bad...

So I'm still here, I'm still loving it. DC is an interesting and very cool city, lots to see, and I've only explored a tiny bit. I've been working my butt off trying to get my main project back on track, and learning to be a little more bold, as is the American way : D I've managed to be a little social too, and having an Australian accent it turns out I don't really have to be bold to get attention ; )

Some pics from my adventures, as promised...

My first motorcade experience...

The Metro is very cool, very easy for me to get into DC:

This the building I'm working on, the Dept of the Interior:

More to come...

Just after I got here I found myself a pretty worn but solid Mustang to get around in. Most importantly it was a 5-speed with a heater that works, and my mountain bike would fit in the back, just...

I've been sampling the local beverages...

...and living on pizza...

I started looking into how to get a newer, better car, and Ford had a lease deal for people on my visa that was too hard to say no... I tried out the Focus ST, and the Fiesta ST... but they weren't really as sporting as I was hoping...

This, on the other hand, is nuts... Hard suspension, stiff Recaro seats, grabby 6-pot Brembos, snappy LSD, really short gearing on the 6-speed manual, and way too much horsepower... So of course this is the car I signed the deal on! : D

I put some miles on it running down to Charlottesville, and finally got meet Rainman! We enjoyed some bbq and hit the Blue Ridge Parkway in the GT...

One very happy Australian:

Bryan (Rainman) is a lot of fun to hang out with, a great tour guide and really funny story teller. I'm looking forward to hanging out with him again : )

Lots of breweries in the area, I'm looking forward to heading back that way...

The last few days I've been exploring more of DC itself. Spring is definitely on the way...

Georgetown on St Patrick's Day...

This morning I was taken for brunch at the Eastern Market. I love that DC isn't a morning town, brunch is so much more civilised ; )

My lovely tour guide for the morning, Jen:

The buckwheat blueberry pancakes live up to their reputation : )

There's no mistaking the thump of a Huey, or three, a fairly familiar site from my balcony...

To round off the day Ishai gave me a tour of the Warner Theatre. Ishai has been great, checking up on me every few weeks just to make sure I haven't flipped out and gone postal. Here's super sound man himself:

So far so good, everything seems to be coming together. Really looking forward to going down to Suches in a couple of weeks : )
Life is good.

Wow, twin-rotor Hueys, I thought they had all been converted to 4-rotor.
Best ride ever was a "strafing run" from a couple thousand feet down to ship-deck level in a Huey.. def an E-ticket ride.

Enjoy the Spring Graham.

Ooops, single rotor, 2 and 4 blade

Good times man! I only visited DC once, but Georgetown was dang cool. I remember a busker who had made an entire drum kit out of weird trash items, oil jugs and a shopping cart... dude could've gone straight into a recording studio to do an album, he was THAT frickin good.

Vern said my Beemer was about ready... once we get over this cold snap, gonna go get it! Looking forward to catching up with ya down at TWoS, my Aussie roomie!
