Looks the same as CJ part. I just checked my parts pile, no luck. It went away when I scrapped parts of the old one a few years back.

Is it no longer available from on-line Jeep parts? Try J.C.Whitney.

I checked Ebay and my local Craigslist. I'll try JC Whitney and see what pops up.

Cut out the warped section.

Make a new inner flat section with the 6 bolt holes.

Put the factory piece on the body. Use the six screws to hold the new plate in place.

Or...try a junkyard?

No junkyards around have any Jeeps in them. If I can't find the factory piece I'm going to have to make the melted one work for me.

Thanks Sifo! I looked on Ebay but nothing came up. I was looking for a gas filler and not a fuel filler though.

Ok.....now slowly and carefully back it down the hill so that we can clean the seats!

It is a scary thing when you realize that rear bumper isn't going to catch you from going over.

When I first saw that I thought Froggy had done a video of your Jeep! Then I saw the license plates.

If I got a jeep, I would end up slamming it, stripping out the 4wd, adding a pickup bed and basically end up with the worlds most expensive El Comanche. : )

Froggy, when I was planning on putting the V8 in my Wrangler, my first plan was to strip the suspension and front axle out and install an air ride system in it. I was going to slam it to the ground with street tires on it but my friends talked me out of it.

I still have plans to do that but with a postal office Jeep.

Careful of those P.O. jeeps.
A friend of mine had one of those a looong time ago. It was top heavy to the point that it was knocked over on its side by a collision.
The good point was that it only broke his mirror.
I would guess that it was a late-70's vintage though.

My jeep has been used more like a piece of farm equipment this year rather than a hill climbing, rock crawling, mud sling 4x4...

There is so much wood chips and bark in it right now, I will need to check it for termites.

So I was working in the garage last weekend and needed to find a way to remove and move my top around. Since buying my new house I didn't have a spot where I could use my electric hoist to remove my top, at the old place I had a great tree to help me. So after a few beers and a bit of looking over my metal pile, an idea popped in my head. So after some more drinking and a bunch of grinding and bad welding I came up with this concoction.

I welded up a bracket to strap to the roof of my hardtop. Hung my electric hoist from one of the rafters in my garage and holy shit....... it all worked out well. Total cost about $30 bucks for the casters, wheels and D-rings.

Well now there is ONE advantage to having a soft top!

The soft top is easy to handle coming off, and when off. Just fold it up and toss it on a shelf. The problem comes with putting it back on. It took three or four days of stretching with clamps and ratchet straps to get mine to fit back on last time!

I'd be willing to bet yours sets on and is bolted back down in short order. I'd also bet you don't have zippers ripping out and clouded windows! Drier, warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer.....you win there to.

To be fair though, I put the 'Best Top' soft top on my Jeep new.....eighteen years ago! It's storage, sitting out in the Southern sun hasn't helped it's condition.

The next time it comes off will be time for it's replacement.

I have a soft top for it too but I only put the hard top on it when it's sitting or in the winter months. Anytime I take out the Jeep, it's usually with the top off.

Hey Joe, Look at your old jeep now. Doug has 4.56 gears and Eaton Trutrac lockers in the garage about to go in.
Then it will be time for a trip to the trails.

So I moved my Jeep to mow yesterday. It irritates me that I don't have the time to have fun with it like I used to. Sombich is so awesome. I still did not even get the rear drive shaft back in it from over a year ago! It has so much potential.....but like my son says.....it just looks so cool sitting there ya can't even think of selling it!

It would be hard to part with it seeing that it cost me nothing to park it and it has been my pet project for over 18 years. It has my small block 400 in it that I have personally owned for 36 years, and I have rebuilt or overhauled it three times, it has been in five of my vehicles in different forms. Some things make great memories.....past and future.

It does make me sad to see the clearcoat going bad. I painted that thing 17 years ago and it has never NOT been parked in the Southern sun, either in Florida or Tennessee. That held up ten years better than the manufacturer said it would.

I was invited to make the 4X4 show at the local County Fair again, but it was the same weekend as the WVBR. So we know how that choice turned out.

Funny how something so simple can make you happy and sad at the same time. I guess I need a huge warehouse to store all of my toys to help preserve them until the next round.

Vern- don't be sad. Irritated is OK.

Don't sell it.

Given the sweat equity and love, it's really family now...

Sell other things first, like your children. ; )

(Disclaimer, I don't have any.)

Well.... it still runs.. Took the old Heep for a drive the other day just to make sure its still alive.

I have had a summer full of work and not much play. Teaching people how to ride motorcycles is fun but it sure cuts into my riding/wheeling time.

I hope to correct that next year. There are a couple Jeep Jamborees I hope to make next year.
There is one in Knoxville that sells out pretty fast every year. Then the one in southern Kentucky was a blast.

I spent Sunday picking ups ANOTHER Jeep with my friend, Doug.
He plans to use the best parts from his new Jeep and Joe's to make one really NICE Jeep.

We shall see how it all turns out....

Well Vern... I think the time has come to go full bore trailer rig.
Dad and I had so much fun at the Greenbrier Valley Jeep Jamboree that we/I/he think 37" tires and new axles are a must.
We ran the toughest trail they had on 33"s and never needed to winch or have someone give us a tug with a tow strap.
But Dad kept saying "if you had this" and "if you had that" while he was laughing all the way.

First project will be to move the front fenders up about 3 inches and trim the hood.
Then cut some metal out of the rear wheel wells for more clearance.
Total cost will be some sweat...

I knew this would happen!!

They have lift restrictions that would make 37's rub?

On the front end I have 4" rear of the spring frame lift blocks, 2" lift springs, 1" lift in the rear of the spring shackles, 6" front of the spring mount lift, and the axle is under the springs, with 16.5 x 39.5 tires that measure 37". They don't rub anymore! That is roughly 12" to 14" or so of lift from stock. Hard to measure with the V8 weight sets in there.

The rear is jacked to equal the front height with 4" frame blocks, flipped axle, angle wedges, 2" spacer blocks and the stock springs and shackles. The biggest problem is that 42" door opening height.

Might only use a trailer queen a few times a year, but it is much more intense fun with all of the stupid stuff you can now do.
