This news came out at least a week ago; I'm kind of surprised nobody's brought it up. New Bonneville and related models from Triumph; all are now water-cooled: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2015/10/triumph-unv eils-new-liquid-cooled-bonneville-family-with-1200 cc-and-900cc-twins/ Here's a pic of the new Thruxton:

I was reading about those just last night. Sounds like power should be close to an XB12. Nice flat torque curve from about 3K-7k rpm, maxed out around 80 ft lbs. I wonder about the weight though. Still, it's meant to be a fun bike, not the top dawg track bike. It could be a winner. |

Valve adjustments, water & chain, oh my! Despite those short comings it still looks good... |

Good lord that T120 is sexy! I wonder how these new models will effect the used market on the air cooled models? |

With all their talk of attention to detail and staying true to the aesthetic of the '68, why can't they get rid of that damn seam around the bottom of the tank? I'd still like to have one,the "R" please. |

That bike doesn't have near the draw or impact on me as when I first saw an XB lightning. ..to each their own |

I test rode an 1190 SX. If I had the cash for a chain drive bike, I'd take an SX over any other bike out there. The new Triumphs are pretty, but the EBR talks to my soul. |

I said ride. I don't want one. A key piece to sorting out your finances is figuring out what you want to own and what you would like to experience. A smart man figures out how to get paid to experience something with out having to own it with it's depreciation to his hurt. I got paid to break three guns one day burning through $25,000.00 1981 dollars in 1981 priced ammo. Two guns survived, An experience I'll always remember. Even us dummies get lucky sometimes. |

That bike doesn't have near the draw or impact on me as when I first saw an XB lightning. That's the same impression I get when I look at motorcycles. All of them. Except the 1190r models. |

OK I have to ask: What were the guns that survived? I'll wager it wasn't an Iver-Johnson rimfire revolver? |

My wife used to have a '08 Bonneville. I would ride it sometimes. That thing was so cool. |

I'm diggin' the Thruxton and the R, and even the plain Street Twin... I'm glad it's got a chain so I could mess with the gearing Anyone seen how much they weigh? My '08 Bonnie ain't no lightweight... |

No actual specs have been released yet (other than price). We should know in early to mid December. The close up shots of the Truxton make me think of the old bevel drive Ducatis. If they can get the power up around the 90 RWHP mark that would be a great addition to the garage. You might have to cut and paste this link. https://rideapart.com/tags/bonneville-reborn-tour (Message edited by SteveFord on November 27, 2015) (Message edited by SteveFord on November 27, 2015) |

Saw one at Long Beach show last weekend; It looks even better in person. I heard buzz around the bike that it was in the 500 lb range. |

90rwhp would be nice 500 lbs makes it about the same as the 865, that's pretty cool that they can add watercooling and still be about the same. |

I'm certainly not a mechanical engineer, but why couldn't the water cooling be handled by alternate locations of the dang radiator? Perhaps under the seat, or under the whole motor, or the rear wheelwell? What I've read so far is that they've done a LOT of work getting the design right, with all the right aesthetics... surely they've got a wind-tunnel... ? How many iterations of a snorkelized fairing feeding the intakes have we seen over the past 35+ years? They could've gone with just an oil cooler where that barn door is, and segmented maybe 2 water radiators with a hi-po fan where I'm thinking. "Loud Fans Save Lives"... Hah! Imagine seeing that bike at idle, and the Uly fan comes on... actually that would be kinda cool! Time for another beer... (Message edited by 86129squids on November 29, 2015) |

I see it has some late model suspension/brakes/tires/power, but would that tube frame not handle like an up graded '1968 model? |

For what it's worth, and I'm not the most amazing rider, the frame on my 865 is great, feels stiffer than pretty much any other double-cradle bike I've ever ridden. It's built like a tank around the headstock, and I've never had a shake or anything close to a slapper from it. (Geometry is nice in an old school way, but very tuneable with fork height, plus I've got adjustable length shocks on mine) I'm guessing the new bikes will be much the same. Stock suspension on the 865's is the let down though, the ride quality is pretty crude. Hopefully the new bikes will be better |
