This is ancient history for many here, but I recall when the Clinton Admin. was playing footsie with the Chinese, approving weapons technology upgrades and the like ( also an issue with the Bush the Younger admin. ) and Slick Willie passed the so called assault weapons ban. ( which not only did not ban a single assault rifle, but had a zero effect on the crime rate ) As a result of the ban, a lot of contracts were canceled with the Red Chinese to ship obsolete Chicom legal guns to America to be sold to Citizens. Since the companies that were going to make money on this were owned by relatives of Communist Party Officials & Generals, the response was to smuggle a couple of ship loads of containers of illegal guns, mostly to Los Angeles, and dump them on the black market to the gangs... Where did YOU think all those full automatic AK-47's in the hands of LA gangs used in drive by shootings came from? Vietnam era war trophies suddenly unearthed from a secret NRA bunker? Not so.
Those Ak-47's were actually Type 56 Assault Rifles made by Norinco. Guess who owns Norinco? Don't expect any "news" folk to properly identify any gun. In fact, see Orlando where they deliberately misidentified the weapons used by the Jihadi rampage suicide.
Just a reminder of how the most rabid "gun control" advocates seem to cause the most "gun violence".
I could cite other historical examples but you might get bored when I discuss Imperial Era's in Japan or Pogroms in what became the Soviet Empire.
