When you brought that up, didn't someone say something about the evap canister solenoid? If it's not working properly, it won't allow the air in the tank to exit as the tank is filling up...
Hope that Evap switch takes care of it. I think I pointed to that when we were discussing mud packed and not getting gas in back when you got it. The rule is no air out, no gas in.
I have had to replace gas tanks on trucks that have had a non evap system vent hose kink. The fuel pump damn near crushed the 55 gallon steel big truck saddle type tank flat from the inside. These pressure inequalities can get powerful.
I currently have a similar problem on a motorhome's septic tank. I think some mud dobbers got into the vent pipe and made a home. Oh the air in the MH gets ugly when any volume is flushed! Water(and stuff) goes into the tank, the same volume of air has to come out. If it can't get out the stand pipe vent it burps back into the toilet. Ewwww! Same principals apply(but for the nasty sewer stench verses gasoline fumes). On that note.....you win.
Oh Mark, the reason the vehicle system has the evap can and switch is for putting gas into the tank. The system is otherwise completely sealed. The fuel pump builds pressure pumping fuel to the engine at a given amount of supply volume and pressure. What ever gas the engine's injectors does not use is recycled back to the fuel tank. That is why if your gas cap is loose it will throw a code for a (vacuum)leak.
The evap can usually contains charcoal to absorb(some of) the nasty vapors as they flow out into the atmosphere as a function of burping the gas tank while filling it. That switch opens the vapor pressure flow to this vent while the key is off and closes to seal the fuel flow (pressure/vacuum) system while the engine is running. Someday they hope to absorb all of that vapor back into the gas stations tanks rather than have them suck in fresh air and your evap can passing fouled air.
The Check Engine Light has been off for a couple of days.
In my 33+ years of driving, I have only had one brand new vehicle. That was a 2003 Dodge pickup 4x4. I have always bought used. This truck now feels/drives like a new truck. On the highway it rides better than some of the cars I've had.
Went to put gas in. Gas didn't want to go in. CEL came back on.
Last on the list. The charcoal canister. Replaced it and went straight to the gas station and the clouds opened... a ray of light struck the side of my truck and...
Finally!! fingers crossed I think its fixed....
Just a fyi. The charcoal canister was "restricted". You could blow are in one end and out it came on the other. With VERY little effort. That little bit was enough to toss a wrench into the works
Naturally aspirated engines are already run at near optimum with the knock sensor controlling the ECU. Turbo'ed or super charged engines definitely can be tuned for more power. ( about 6:30 )
I've finally chased/fixed the fuel pressure issues on my Cummins and have ordered an old-school Edge Comp box for it. 5 levels, each with 5 sub-levels of low-boost fueling. 40/60/80/100/120 hp for the main levels; 150/200/250/300/350 lb-ft.
