Got a test ride on one of the HD Live Wires today. Even de-tuned as it is for the test rides the thing is damm fast!! The thing accelerates from 0-50 like a rocket and not having to worry about shifting makes it even faster IMO.

If HD can bring this to market with a 150 mile or longer range and under 20 thousand dollars I think they will have a real winner.

Yeah, wish it would come around to my neck of the woods! Not something I would entertain buying until it hits 150 heavy use miles at high speed. How many did they have for test rides?

A former elf I know got a ride on one and thoroughly enjoyed it as well.

It prompted me to sign up for a ride about a month ago when they were in the Asheville, NC area. I never got contacted to say that I'd be able to take a spin on one so I didn't make the 5.5 hour trip. I seriously doubt that they'll come any closer to where I live...

Perhaps I've done something to piss off the MoFo's at the MoCo?

P.S. Even though I know that electric power is the wave of the future, LONG LIVE THE I.C.E.!!!

Do you think that maybe getting Wandell to sign your shirt might have something to do with not being picked for a ride?

I can see an electric bike parked in between my Buell and Aprilia at some point. I'm pretty sure it wont be a Harley.

That remains one of the moot-classics of all time.

I was never much of a HD fan but I would support anyone bringing more electric bikes to market to increase competition and bring down the prices.

I plan to demo a Zero bike at AIM next month. Doubt I will buy an electric bike any time soon but I think they are ideal for many people. My commute is 25 miles round trip but wife and I work for the same company and usually use her hybrid so difficult to justify an extra bike at the moment.

I never saw that before! Clever hiding it under another shirt! and now that he's gone, you have a very unique collector's item.

Test rode a Zero SR over the weekend and came away VERY impressed. Unlike the Livewire, this is a REAL motorcycle you can buy NOW.

Even better, a lot of elves (including Abe Askenazie) found employment at Zero after Wandell's idiotic decision so I have a DOUBLE reason to consider the Zero over anything from the "Motor Company."

I've ridden several Zero models, a Brammo and the Live Wire and felt the Zero SR was the best of them all. Believe it or not the Live wire came in second as my most favorite. It might have been the setup, but the Brammo didn't feel right to me.

I would love to see the finished version of the Live Wire and what they expect the range to be on the production model.

I do see an electric bike in my future. Probably not my next bike, but soon.

The Zero's rock and are getting closer to 200 miles before recharging and you can get a 90% quick charge done in a little over an hour now.

Right now I don't see the Zero replacing anything in my garage... but it is a viable ADDITION for a commuter/daily runabout for me.

Where are you getting those figures EZ?

The Zero web site lists the Zero SR as having about a 94 mile range on the interstate, and that's the $15k version of the bike plus another $2500 on the extended battery pack.

The Zero DS is $12k, and looks like it will go about 50 miles Interstate. Which seems like a better sweet spot, though still not cheap and still pretty limited. I'd probably lean towards that one, assuming that in 5 years the $5000 I would spend on batteries now might buy a LOT more battery then.

Don't get me wrong, I want a Zero badly. But it's still a niche solution. One just a little outside my niche (for both cost of the bike and range of my commute).

If I wont the lotto I'd have one tomorrow though...

Not everyone commutes that far, nor only rides on the interstate.
I see these as more of a city/commuter audience?

http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/zero-s/specs.php

My commute is 25 miles round trip, 20 of which is interstate, but I could go a different route if needed, just takes a little longer.

We have 1 charging station at a building here at work, 1 down the road at Walgreens, and a couple in a near by downtown area.

If I didn't commute with my wife, I would probably buy a Zero bike.

My commute is 34 miles round trip, all highway. Although the legal speed limit here is 55mph, in fact if you're not doing at LEAST 70 you'll get run off the road. The 77 mile range on the SR without the Powerpack is perfect. More than enough range for me to get to and from work AND take a short lunch time ride to boot.

I was thoroughly surprised to see a guy on a Zero over in Marion NC, as I was heading to get my stopgap, get-me-home rear tire from a super good guy over there... had I not been under time constraints, I'dve chased the guy down and hounded him for a test ride. I pulled next to him at the light, hit my killswitch to talk with him briefly... he said he'd only had it a few days, but loved it already!

Keepin' my eyes on all the E-bikes nowadays... a while back I posted up about this bike, here ya go again-

http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2015/06/greased-fri ghtening-lightning-motorcycles-scary-fast-ls-218-m d-riding-impression/

Check out the article... it sounds like a SERIOUSLY complete package, with giant-killer power. Of course the $$$ is prohibitive for me and most... that doesn't keep me from lusting after one, or a Tesla for that matter.

An electric might work great for me. I live less than 2 miles from work. Those short hops aren't good for my Buells.

"Those short hops aren't good for my Buells."

The service manager at Smoky Mountain HD always got worked up when we moved inventory without giving it at least a 15-20 minute cold-hot-cold cycle. I completely understand, given the architecture of HD motors over the years.

I asked my Beemer mechanic, he said not to worry about it too much with my R75/7- I use it all the time pooting around town for groceries and errands.
The Triumph does the 22.5 mile high speed commute just fine though. ; )

My thoughts too Jaime... 20 years ago. : )

Now I drive my Sebring convertible or ride my Uly 90%.
The other 10% is on the very high-strung 1190RS.

Last Thanksgiving the shop moved.
My old commute was 1.1 miles each way. I walked it... once.
Now it's 13 miles at 45mph thru farmland.

A wonderful calming commute. : )

20 years ago I commuted 10 miles each way by bicycle (but I had an office with a shower facility too). Those were the days.

Now I just get fat...

Nice review on the Energica Ego:

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/07/30/energica-ego-el ectric-motorcycle-translogic-181

First one I've seen that has reverse.

RANGE
150 km @ 80 km/h (93 mi @ 50 mph)
190 km @ 60 km/h (118 mi @ 37 mph)
100 km @ 100 km/h (62 mi @ 62 mph)

Little on the heavy side so I expect they will improve over time if they can sell enough.

I'd gladly give up some performance for more range. Guess I am getting old or something.

You don't live in Houston. The act of walking to your car produces sweat. I can't arrive at the office looking like a mop.
