Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of Stevie Ray Vaughn's tragic death in a helicopter crash. A Badwebber just posted this photo of the crash location to Facebook; I never realized this connection before:

I remember staying there at Homecoming after Buell shut down,it was a very surreal experience.I couldn't stop thinking about him and where he might have gone with his music, had he lived.

A somber day, indeed. My favorite Blues guitar player - ever. I put on a few hours worth of his music last night.

Raised in the Dallas area, I had the privilege of seeing Stevie Ray perform three times. The best show was an earlier performance where the Fabulous T-birds were the warm up band. Stevie Ray's second encore consisted of just him and his brother (Jimmy) on stage jamming - dueling guitars. At one point, they turned to face each other reached out w/ their right hands and picked the brother's guitar while fretting their own. It was an amazing display of symbiosis for two guys that had been playing guitar together since age 3 and 6 respectively.

Thanks Hugh! You really know how to make someone feel old...

I remember the regular call to the parental units while I was in college. My mom told me that 'some rock star died at Alpine Valley when their helicopter crashed', but of course she couldn't tell me who it was. Being 500 miles away from East Troy, I forget how I found out it was SRV in those days before I started hanging out on the internet...

RIP SRV!

I was just listening to my Albert King/Stevie Ray CD last night with some friends. They talk about old times and then Albert talks about handing the Blues baton down to the younger "little Stevie". Too bad he couldn't run with it!

SRV was the best live performance I recall seeing. No laser shows no smoke and mirrors, just the most fantastic guitar playing I have seen, even when he was playing behind his back.
