sifo who exactly wants to move here? though your jingoistic chest-beating right wing pundits will tell you everybody wants in, mostly just lots of super poor people that get their view from movies and dream of fabulously rich jobs that pay a whopping $7-10 want to come here. And show me statistics of just how many rich people are leaving.

And I will get back to the coch bros later ( you guys will be sad to hear I had a nice long refutal of many above statements then I closed all windows not just the one I was trying to, but dont cry I'll still get most of my points across sometime)

Do you always have to insult people to try and make a point Tod? Or is that just an online persona?

If it's the way you communicate, that must be hard for the people around you.

Tod, here's a couple of links about the rich leaving the US. Feel free to choose the spin that make you feel good. http://fortune.com/2013/05/08/u-s-citizens-ditch-p assports-in-record-numbers/ http://truth-out.org/buzzflash/commentary/how-the- super-rich-are-abandoning-america-leaving-the-ship -of-state-to-sink/18291-how-the-super-rich-are-aba ndoning-america-leaving-the-ship-of-state-to-sink

No doubt the poor from other countries flock to the US. $7.00 per hour is a lot to most of these people. I've been out of professional life for a while now, so I can't speak for what's going on right now, but when I was in the IT field there were many who (f*l*o*c*k*e*d is a banned word?) here from Russia, India, Korea, China, Japan. I seemed to rub elbows with engineers from the UK and Germany. The trades are filled with a variety of European backgrounds. I hate to say this, but you kind of sound like the stereotypical farm boy who has never been off the farm when you question this stuff.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to use such charged language in your response to what I wrote. Knock yourself out though. I'm off to the compound for a week or so. Much to do. Lots of damage from a recent storm, and my mom is getting a new knee.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/ 2013/03/22/a-revealing-map-of-who-wants-to-move-to -the-u-s/

Once again I ask who wants to move here?

I do not mean to come off as quite as obtuse as may be the case sometimes, but I have spent many years watching you guys slander all things left-leaning. And I use "you guys" too loosely, I used to try to read previous posts of whoever I am responding to but that is prohibitively time-consuming. I am sure there are some of you who do not deserve the tone of my arguments but also I am pretty sure for every spiteful thing I have typed there have been 10 times as much slander toward the half of the country that vote democratic, just this year.

And um I've been let off the farm once or twice, I even saw one of them big city fancy theeetirs once, they had like 8 talkin picture shows ALL playn at once! (really your going to call me a hick, all condescendingly like you don't mean it, back your claim up. Once again my evidence holds pretty solid proof of my position. Please cut and paste other posts of mine that support your contention of my sheltered life.

Now once again look at the evidence I provided.

And im pretty sure last year like 1300 people gave up citizenship - OH NO!! Let's say its 8000 which is the highest possible number I've seen, at that rate it would take 400 years for 1% of America's population to leave. (and im pretty sure I've seen proof that whatever paltry % it is has been constant over 20+ years)

And to make my above post clearer, I am refuting the Limbaugh fueled contention that EVERYBODY wants to emigrate to America. Yes lots of people want in but most of them are from impoverished parts of the world and get their worldly perception from movies and pictures of Kim Ks butt. Its just not true that many people from first world countries are clamoring to move here.

Rush Limbaugh may be a conservative, but that does not make all conservatives Rush Limbaugh. Nor even Rush Limbaugh fans. So I appreciate your toning down of the rhetoric, but I still don't see why it is always personal with you.

I work for a Dutch company, with a strong UK presence, and at least one of the UK citizens, a professional with a good job, spent a lot of time and energy to move to the US and settle here. I have another friend who is a professional from Canada that also did a lot of work to move to the US to settle and live.

I'm not using that to say "yay us" and "other countries suck". I've been to several and could enjoy living in most. So I'm not sure what we are arguing about here.

But if any kind of objective quality of life and quality of opportunity metric were to be created, America would have to be at or very near the top. It would suffer a bit perhaps in quality of life, but make it up for it in quality of opportunity. The UK would be a nice (if a bit cramped and crowded for my tastes) place to live, but you are lucky to be able to own a house and a piece of property there. Here, at least I own my little plot of land and a house upon it.

If I took a poll of conservative badwebbers "But if any kind of objective quality of life and quality of opportunity metric were to be created, America would have to be at or very near the top." would be the position of most of you right?
Well that just isnt the case. I am open to seeing statistics to disprove this but I don't know of any.

(and im not rotten cherry picking statistics, im just googling questions and looking for trustworthy sources)

I am trying to show its a myth that the US is the greatest of the great, just isnt so. Many Rs contest that we have the greatest everything (or did before BO, Rs say"make us great again", well these statistics have been similar for many years). Well statistics dont show that. Im not trying to bash us, im saying we need to change the way things work. And this is not a BO thing this is a systemic problem with our society that goes back atleast 20 years. (And I have shown that Rs have had control of congress more then Ds in my lifetime). You can deny the cause but I see one of the root causes as Corporate lobbyists and the revolving door of industries and government.

And to bring it back home when our government listens to the same people that are pushing for greater corporate profits over American health/well-being, they are also pushing for profits over the health of the worlds ecology.

But all is not lost: https://youtu.be/nsDYAtKlsT4 (I forgot how perfectly this fits)

And I have no problem playing nice but there are lots of disparaging remarks thrown my way and just as Obama used the tool of super pacs to make it a fairer fight, I wont sit back and have my opinion unfairly slandered. Look back and notice that though occasionally lashing out at the wrong person I have returned harsh retoric after recieving such.

AND PLEASE DONT BLOW THIS OFF AND CLAIM ITS OUR SITTING PRESIDENTS FAULT -(or show me some proof of that contention)

Tod, all those links you provided show the kinds of things conservatives are bitching about. They're all caused by leftists policies.
Economic freedom is antithetical to the left.
Poverty is caused not by capitalism, but by socialism (capitalism creates rich people, socialism creates poor people). I'd rather live in a society where some are filthy rich than one where everyone is just filthy.
Our public schools are, and have been for decades, run by the left.
The infant mortality rate is as high as it is because of the drug problem that the left created in the 60s, and continues to coddle today. The US counts stillborn babies as an infant death. Those other countries do not. The results can not be directly compared. It would be even worse if we counted abortions, another darling of the left.

So when you hear a conservative talking about making America great again, it's these cancers of the left that we're talking about excising.

We are human beings Tod. If you want to know if we believe something, ask us, then take us at our word. Don't turn me into some kind of simplistic and ignorant caricature of ourselves, its insulting.

I've been trying not to do the same of you, I've been trying to understand your real believes and your real point.

Tod.

I don't know why you bother trying to reason with any of these guys that post in this thread. Most don't have passports. Most have never set foot off the North American continent. They have never experienced other countries and cultures which exceed the quality of life found in the USA. They just don't know any better and refuse to listen objectively. For myself, I have often thought The Netherlands would be a perfect place to live from my experience there.

The whole Buell "enthusiast" subculture that happens on this site is worthy of anthropological study. I can't say I've been to another motorcycle forum with such a focused and narrow minded social and political bias. Quite amazing really how this little oasis of insanity seems to keep on muddling along on the internet. We have Aesquire, Sifo, Reepicheep, Hootowl Pwnzer and a small cast of others to thank for keeping this thread and the other threads going on this "Quick Board". Is it still a "Quick Board" if a specific thread goes on for five years??? God knows this thread would have dried up and died a long time ago on the Moto Guzzi or Ducati forum or over with the Buellxb guys. Again, thanks to the tenacity of guys like Aesquire and Sifo we get to read "their thoughts" as they put down your posts with comments such as "stupid", "ignorant" and "idle minded". This place isn't about open dialogue, it's about maintaining the party line. We can thank the forums creator for that.

I think that post should be put in the dictionary as an illustration of hypocrisy.
The 1st paragraph belittles the other posters, describing them as narrow minded and ignorant.
The 2nd paragraph whines about being belittled by the same people.

Oxford was a nice place, Woodstock even nicer, but every seat on those trains and planes are too damn small for a 6'2" American male.

Ah German beer.
Some of the best is found at Bavarian small town fests which are held throughout the year (except for lent).
Most towns have their own breweries and take great pride in the quality of the local beers.

A close buddy just got his hard cider operation inspected and is now legal for retail sales in PA. Next step is the brewery. He's got hops growing and a local farmer grows a wheat otherwise only grown in the Orkney islands. He's been test brewing a traditional Orkney beer, & he's been there to sample the local brews.

The cider is outstanding. I'll let you know when he's open for retail trade. It's in northern PA in great riding country. Fracking & Beer. American ingenuity and traditional craftsmanship. His daughter is going to have to beat them off with a club when she gets older.

Science as establishment, resistant to change.

We may be in an age like the time epicycles were staunchly defended. Character assassination is easier than actually looking at the data. The Science is Never Settled...... but Newtonian physics still works fine for most of us most of the time.

I can understand the issue. I've defended the accepted science myself when stuff like "Brown's Gas" is being sold to the ignorant.

You may remember the excitement/con of hooking a jar of water up to your cars electric system and plumbing the Hydrogen & Oxygen into the intake..... free energy!....... but not really. Pesky Laws of Thermodynamics.

I don't know if the EM drive works. It may work by pushing on dark matter instead of the aether. ( they may in fact be the same ) but it needs to be figured out even if it wrecks a generation of term papers.

Like the speed of the neutrinos fired through the Alps from CERN to Italy, there may be just experimental error and not a breakthrough. We'll see.
