Well... here goes. I have not been on Badweb in years, since, quite frankly most people are hen pecking each other over politics on QuickBoard. But...

I have been in NC for four years, since my cross country trip. I had 40 interviews the first few years in my field with no job offer. Now I am working in Parks and Rec and I am underpaid and underemployed.

I managed to get in a bit of traveling the first few years because I had decent savings, but now I am somewhat broke.

It started about January. I sold my car because I couldn't afford the co-payments and went down to one vehicle... Piglet, my 2010 City X.

It currently has 66,000 miles on it. In the last six months all sorts of stuff has gone wrong. This last episode almost had me selling it off for parts.

I have replaced the fan, the fuel pump, the neutral switch. I also had the rocker box leaks repaired. Then there was a leak in the primary.

While the leak in the primary was repaired, the shop (to remain nameless at this point) didn't check the fluid in the primary, and I made the assumption they did... and off I went to the Dragon.

A few days after getting back, the clutch seized up. I thought I'd have to unload the bike for next to nothing, but I got so depressed I called the dealership.

That was when I discovered they didn't even look at the fluid level in the primary when I told them I lost 6 to 10 oz. over a two week period.

Well... they said to drop it off and they would check it out and make it right if it was their fault. Three weeks later...

They gave me 600$ of clutch parts and about 600$ of labor and she is good to go. At least they admitted what they did and owned up to it. I paid 300$ in labor on the install.

I am still wondering if now that I got everything working I should sell the Piglet, but I don't even know what to ask for with 66,000 miles on it and minor cosmetic damage.

My dream bike is a new BMW GS F700 I rode last year, but being underemployed that won't happen anytime soon. Been back on here following Court's posts on EBR.

Long live the Piglet. And play nice if you respond to this thread or I will have to go away again.

Charlotte

Hey there stranger! Good to see you post up again...

I remember your CityX- was a little envious about all the goodies your bike had that my '05 didn't- wow, 66K is getting up in Vern's range!

Hope you're doing OK other than skinny simoloeons... on that note, I read a neat article about eating well on a skinny budget a couple of days ago, the author wrote a cookbook for people on SNAP assistance. I scanned through the PDF (it's free), and the whole thing is very well written, clever, and fairly simple, LOTS of tasty recipes, with drool-worthy pics to boot.

Check it out!

Glad to see you post up here.

NEXT TIME CALL @#$%@#$% !
(I still owe you for house sitting and chauffeur services [ heart cat ] )

I have garage space and an extra room, between us (and a few friends) we can probably "fix-it" next time the piglet goes south.

Otherwise I hope that all is well

Those 9's seem to run forever. I personally think its the most durable motor ever to roll out of an HD facility.

Given that much lower mileage 9 bikes are selling for a little over 2k, I'd say the only value left in the bike is the value to you, if you can live with the FUD of riding a high mileage bike.

Makes it hard when you are tight on discretionary income though, and need reliable transportation.

+1-

I remember leading the ride up from Suches through Reliance TN, Tellico Plains and back- Char seemed to treat her dear Piglet MUCH nicer than I did mine. I pretty much flogged my bike, to the point of needing a 2nd motor...

Fun times!

Have you looked for work around Atlanta?Lots of good roads just north of here.

I don't know if you remember my red Guzzi from homecoming a few years back,I have a pic of you sitting on it somewhere.

RD you selfish pr*ck! Ha ha ha. Yes, yes, I remember the Guzzi from Homecoming and the marathon ride to Tellico during Buelltoberfest. Funny thing is, I go to that bakery every time I am over there.

Yeah, the Piglet has sentimental value more than monetary value. The county I live in must think it is made of gold, because they tax me at over 5000$ value. I only paid 7000$ for it 66,000 miles ago. Too funny.

Yes, Jim/Oldog you do owe me one. Ha ha ha.

Char, I don't know about NC, but in SC, you can protest their assigned value. Here I can just take in a scan from KBB, NADA, or similar and show what the value is and the tax people will change it in the tax files. I got the value of my S3 dropped significantly by doing that. It'd be worth checking into.

Hey Char- last time I was at Tellico Grains bakery, they had added another oven, and are now serving their dee-lish pizza every day they're open! I'd already ordered a sammich- my eyes bugged out when I saw pizza on a day other than Saturday- with only one oven, they couldn't do pizza during the week, due to needing a higher temp than baking bread...

If you feel like splurging a bit, they carry a full range of excellent dry spice mixes from Alchemy Spices out of Chattanooga- I usually pick a new one up when I go to the bakery. They're on the back wall before the restrooms.

LOVE that place.

The only moving parts in the primary itself are the clutch, chain, and charging rotor. If you're charging, and it's shifting...keep riding it!

The transmission also uses the same fluid bath, but as I said - if its shifting...

Definitely hold onto it. There's enough folks here who can (and WOULD) help you out... I wouldn't sweat it.

Good seeing you post again!

Yeah Hugh, they don't make it easy in NC. You have to get it appraised, inspected, etc. notarized and so on. The couple hundred bucks I have to pay is hardly worth it. I was just shocked because Wisconsin does not have property taxes for vehicles.

Another lovely thing about NC is that it is perfectly legal to jack up rent by 100$ or more every year. I finally have a place run by a family that doesn't do that. But, hey, whatever.

Squids, I was in Tellico on a Sunday around the 4th and the bakery was closed. I was so so so disappointed. I ate at a BBQ joint that was overpriced and pretty much sucked. At least a dog that was there ate pretty well that day.

Yeah Joe... what happened was I was riding it and the clutch wouldn't disengage. I stalled it out at the bottom of a blind hill trying to make a turn. Fortunately the loaded tow truck behind me was paying attention or it could have ended very badly.

When I finally got it started again, I got it into a nearby driveway and towed home. A co-worker came to help me take it to the shop. I got it up a wet grassy hill before it freaked out again and tried to get away from me.

Fortunately I hit the kill switch and someone got me my phone for my maintenance man to help me right it. The way it was when I stopped the motor was sideways on a wet grassy hill with the kickstand side facing downhill.

I am not sure how I managed to not drop it!

The thing is with all the crap I have had done, and selling my car in January... I had just said I would be done with it if anything else happened.

Almost maxed out two credit cards before the clutch froze up. Fortunately the dealership ate $600 of labor and the MoCo actually GAVE me $600 in parts... which almost shocked me.

Otherwise I would be on here parting it out. I am guessing the service manager called in a huge favor with the MoCo.

Today I am going to ride it to my martial arts class which is 30 miles away (I HOPE!)

Oh that, I figured you "fixed me" good at Thanksgiving dinner, I still blame the drugs....

The offer still stands if you need wrenching work and can get away from where ever you are.

You did save me a fridge after my forgetting the chicken stunt...

BTW Dawn is expecting my grand daughter in October =)

"Squids, I was in Tellico on a Sunday around the 4th and the bakery was closed."

Yeah, they're one of the few good outfits that recognize, whether for religious reasons or not, keeping the Sabbath is good for everyone- except the hungry customers! ; )

Next time through on Sunday, my 2nd pick would be the old standby, Tellico Beach Drive-In. Food's pretty decent, once had some good catfish there, they've been there for years, and you can eat overlooking the river. If you've prepared, even go for a swim- wish I could've done that this past weekend on the way back from BITA...

Or, just holler at me in Mur-Vil. We fix a lot of good grub here at the house.

Char, good to hear from you.
Youre an awesome person, enjoyed the WV trip with you a few years back, as well as hanging at Homecoming in 2010

Where in NC are you now?

Every now and then I'll see a XBs going down 40 through Greensboro with a reflective vest on.

Hi Char, you passed my mileage a while ago. I locked my Uly down at 61,000 a couple of years ago and the clock has hardly ticked since. I did get in a couple of those 35 miles to do a 16 mile trip deals lately.

Good to see you back.

Bunches of us going to Mark's shindig in WV soon. Hope you can make it.

Just kidding. Welcome back. Get a class A or B license and come to Atlanta, and I can put you to work right now. You'll take home $650-700 a week after taxes and be home every night. It's hard work, but we have medical and paid vacations.
