Has anyone here eaten at Sweatman's BBQ in South Carolina? I got a E-mail from my friends in Australia telling me to check it out.
Although I'm still out West (I'm currently in Utah), I will be heading towards North Carolina next month to visit with my sister and brother in law again, so it might be a nice destination for a ride with them (he rides a Lead Wing).
Here's the address:
Sweatman's 1427 Eutaw Road, Holly Hill, SC

If you know of any good BBQ joints near Fayetteville, could you also let me know? I've been known to enjoy a little BBQ on occasion. Which reminds me; I have to go through Buffalo and see Oz, There's a new Dinosaur that opened up there and I want to check it out; as well as see him. I haven't seen Oz in a long time.

Crusty- I live about 20 miles from Holly Hill. I'm not sure I've eaten at that Sweatman's, but I've eaten at another of their restaurants in the nearby town of Ridgeville. It's good BBQ with a nice selection of side dishes.

I'm not sure where your route is taking you, but my personal preference for BBQ in South Carolina is vinegar-based and hot (spicy). It's most common in Williamsburg County and nearby areas, which isn't too far from Holly Hill. I'd recommend Schoolhouse BBQ in Scranton, SC, Brown's BBQ in Kingstree, SC, or Scott's BBQ near Hemingway, SC. Scott's was actually written up in the New York Times a few years ago.

Here's a good BBQ reference for South Carolina: http://bbq.discoversouthcarolina.com/

When you get to Fayetteville ride up to Ron's Barn http://www.ronsbarnbbqandseafood.com
There's one in Coats where I go and another in Sanford.

Crusty, please let me know when you go to see Don & I'll try to meet you at the same time. Don & I chat quite regularly but I've not seen him for too many years.

Crusty,
I'll keep my eyes peeled for your plans- would love to meet up again! I'd actually love to make the trip to NY and see Oz, but that's a bit out of the card with a youngin at home.
