Froggy,
What toy would be your first choice to be put on your handle bars?
This is a request for pics of your bars and the toys on them with a possible explanation of the thoughts behind them.
,R.D.

By toy I don't believe you mean things like a GPS.

Interesting question, I had to ponder about it. I have a Beanie Baby frog "Legs", from my childhood. I have a sentimental attachment to it, so I would pick that for mounting to my bars. : )

I'll have to figure out some kind of mounting method and take some pictures : )

I actually did mean t...., ok, not "toys".
I was interested in your reasons for the use of the specific tools attached to your bike's handle bars. I'm thinking about mounting my phone to use the GPS. Would love to put my 10" tablet under the translucent air box and be able to use it. That is just a dream right now.

Old picture of my 1125R. Valentine 1 radar detector, Veypor VR2 racing computer, Garmin Zumo 550 GPS, Dorlan tire pressure monitoring system, and smartphone in an aquabox.

If I had to pick one, it would be the smartphone for its overall utility, jack of all trades type thing.

I would love to do a 10" tablet but it is not exactly practical due to the size. It is hard to find waterproof enclosures for large phones, even worse for tablets.

Mounted in that position, can the Valentine pick up radar signals from behind you? That's an impressive array you've got there.

Yep, the V1 is very sensitive. I've had it pick up cops well over a mile away before.

Not that you really need it, because I know the Frog is an upright citizen and doesn't violate traffic ordinances.

Yep. Just ordered a kickstand kritter, frog.
I thought of waterproof bag for the 10" on top of a tank bag. I like the idea of a big map.

I've been using Ram Mount's X-Grip with my water-resistent Samsung Galaxy S5 phone and it's been great, even at speeds that would leave you questioning its grip strength. Tested the water resistance of the phone pretty well yesterday after getting caught in a downpour (it's fine)!

Anybody have any longer-term experience with this one? Only thing I don't like is once the arms grip the phone and clamp down, the phone is still able to rotate about 15° around on the pivot (the free-play allowed by the arms' spring-loaded design). It stays put for the most part while riding, though.

Now if I could just get my phone's screen to be brighter.

These days most of my riding is tame and completely legit to save on gas, but it is nice having the extra heads up. Between the radar and Waze on my phone it is rare I see a cop without advanced warning.

Funny enough, there was this one time I was moving at a decent clip on a main road in the middle of nowhere, I had a guy in a pickup following me (not close but keeping up with my pace), I started getting the beeps from my radar, so I dialed it back down to the painfully slow for the area legal speed. The guy behind me didn't want to have any of it, passed over the double yellow, with the cop watching in the distance.

Ourdee, I have a waterproof bag from a company called Travelon
http://www.travelonbags.com/waterproof/waterproof- ipad-pouch-1278

I don't believe I paid as much as the price listed there, but it is well worth it. Completely waterproof, allegedly it can float but I haven't tried it. Touch screen can still be used through it but it is a little more difficult. Very durable and would be great stuck to the top of a tank bag.

How do you get a touch screen to work with riding gloves on?

My wife got me a 5S phone and I cannot get it to respond to my fingers while working in my shop. With the chemicals and crap I get on my fingers (usually I have to clean my hands and I wait for them to dry before calling someone back). I have found a rubber coated light work glove that actually works better than the skin of my fingers.

Do you have all of that stuff hooked up to voice command?

When I rode your CR, back when, I thought I was in the cockpit of an airplane. I could be a really good pilot, but the plane would have to be WWI vintage. Give me a throttle, control stick, and a gas gage.....I'd fly the crap out of that thing. My second dirt track race car to my last, had only an oil pressure gage and a temperature gage. I learned with the first one that less distractions made me go faster.

Easiest way is to get a better phone : )

Nokias have highly sensitive screens. Here is a video of my $29 Nokia 521 working great inside a waterproof aquabox case while I have a glove on. http://1drv.ms/1JGaOfj

I can't think of an easy fix for your issue, other than to maybe wear gloves while working, so that you don't get all greasy.

>Do you have all of that stuff hooked up to voice command?

Yes! I have my Bluetooth headset connected to my phone, I have Cortana take commands and read messages for me while riding. I no longer have to take my hands off the bars to respond to text messages : )
