Ratbuell, I'm running a Lumanetics yellow on my Reactor Yellow Cyclone. A h-4 55-135 iirc. Honestly a white bulb would let me see a bit further I think. But it really paints the night in mellow not eye hurting light. I know the deer are fascinated by it..... and my riding buddies say it attracts their attention more than white. They always know where I am. The desired result was to be just a fraction "different" to cage drivers and thus improve safety. Don't know if that's going to be true. Does work in the woods! | ||

Booked a Jeep "Jamboree" trip in Greenbrier WV for my Dad and I. He turned 74 today and I have to say... I think he is pretty excited to go. Can't wait to go spend some 1 on 1 time with him. | ||

Happy birthday to your dad! My mom hit 80 last weekend. She still fusses at us about us being safe when we go out in the mud pit or on the trails. If I didn't have so many projects I might make one of your Jeep Jamboree events, it sounds like a great time. If you keep inviting me it is bound to happen.  | ||

The "more" is every Torx fastener used to fix the last problem is now stripped... good luck next time around! If you ever strip a Torx fastener ask the nearest Jeeper how to remove it, and there's your fastest answer. | ||

So with the Jeeper concentration we seem to have on badweb, I figure I'll ask...anyone have manual, non-joystick, reach-out-the-window-to-adjust door mirrors for a 92 XJ they want to sell? This ass-cold weather in Maryland has caused (along with certain bodypart impacts) mine to separate from the doors  | ||

I got nothing for an XJ. So was that from driving through deeply plowed snow piles at the end of your drive courtesy of the DOT snow plow guys? I had that happen in Western NY state years ago. My F150 4x4 busted through a furrow of plowed up snow that they filled in my drive with, of course just after I shoveled it. The furrow was four feet high wet granular mix that was so heavy I could not even shovel it with a small spade dirt shovel. I thought the truck might go at least half the height over it as it broke through, but noooooo.....it kept the tires on the ground bending the front bumper and folding both mirrors into both doors. It cost me about $500 damage to get out of my drive! I guess I should have bought the snow plow.  | ||

Nah, nothing that spectacular. Driver side has been "held together" with a drywall screw for years. Passenger side succumbed to my going ass-over-teakettle on some ice, and grabbing for the only thing I could grab for. It wasn't any help. | ||

Man, you got some jackass in a YJ tailgating you there.... Found out I can just order a title reprint online. No dealing with the mental midgets at motor vehicles. I'll just do that today (and as soon as I do, I'll find the original...but it's only $20, well worth it considering I've torn my house apart twice now and can't find the damn thing). Great seeing you guys too. Next time we'll all grab a bite or something but I knew you needed to get back on the road. | ||

powdercoated black steel wheels be cheap! That is why the trend happened to my Jeep  I was thinking about getting a set of white cragars but then bought a can of spray paint. Saved about 275 bucks That 275 bucks can go towards the next thing that breaks... | ||

So I was looking at my Jeep today.....I am going to have to make some modifications to the yokes on all four drive shaft ends to handle some much stronger "U" bolts rather than the "heavy duty reinforced" straps that came on the Chevy 4x4 donor rears. I bumped them up from 1/4" grade 8 bolts to 5/16" grade 8 bolts with welded reinforced straps. They just snapped like dry twigs when I was doing that pull off last summer. I would have thought well worn Super Swampers would have spun a bit without breaking the U joint retainer bolts. It just squatted, bit, and blew up the bolts and retainer straps. Now I will need to drill the 5/16" threads out of the holes to introduce the 5/16" "super strong" 1 ton truck U bolts. I don't believe I dare drill the Yokes to go up to 3/8" U bolts yet.....that'll be next. Anyone else solve this problem?  I was hoping the HD half ton stuff would hold up(because the jeep weighs about half what the pickup did), but no, it has failed again. I do have a Chevy 400 small block that puts out about 400 ft lbs of torque on 39.5" tires. | ||

Might look into these. They held up well on a 69 Camaro I had that was pushing 500 hp through sticky tires.  | ||

Thanks! I did not even think to look into the 'clean' world of drag racing parts. Certainly make twisting force into forward movement force in a very heavy duty way there! I'll check it out. | ||

Just to keep you all informed that due to the WJ getting rather tired my stable has recently increased to the tune of a WK Grand Cherokee Limited. And before anybody asks, yes that thing got a hemi! | ||

Hm...shame. Hemi's a good motor, working on splicing an '05 5.7 EFI Hemi into my '72 Satellite wagon...but I LOVE my WK2 with the 3.0 VM Motori diesel. I'm glad you didn't get a 4.7. The only "problem" with a Hemi is, it's thirsty. 4.7's like to grenade. But I digress. I checked into this thread for an un-prompted recommendation. I had a YJ Wrangler that I put a Banks exhaust on because it was stainless and wouldn't rust. Turns out it sounded pretty cool to boot, fuel mileage got a micro-bump (4.0L), but being a high-geared stickshift brick...it was never "fast". Moved my XJ Cherokee recently, and the tailpipe literally fell on the ground when I started it. Rust. Damn - the XJ only has 240k on it, really? I had good luck with the Banks on my YJ. I have a Banks with "power elbow" on my '01 Ram 2500 diesel, good EGTs, good performance, little quicker turbo spool but still not "fast" since it's a big honkin' HD diesel truck with a stick shift...and I found a good price on a Banks catback for the XJ. Holy CRAP. Sounds pretty good - just like my Ram, no highway drone, but a nice, "I'm not stock" sound. And a 240k mile Cherokee will, without hesitation, light up the tires now with a strong poke at the throttle pedal. Seriously - this thing is a beast now. Totally stock intake-side, totally stock engine, and granted it's an open rear end (only spins one tire) but if I drop my foot on the gas, it'll light that tire for nearly 1000'. I am seriously impressed, considering it's a muffler, a midpipe, and a tailpipe. If you're looking for a nice, good-performing, decent-priced (not much more than an OEM replacement rust-prone Walker system), nice sounding exhaust...I definitely recommend the Banks. | ||

I'm not a Jeep guy, but an occasional caretaker of a 2002 TJ owned by a friend. Recently, she had her shorts in a bunch about some rust she found on the frame rail. I figured it wouldn't amount to anything but sure enough, right where the frame arches in front of the rear axle on the driver's side, there is rusted out area. A couple fingertip size holes in the face of the frame and a really good rusted out area about four inches long in the bottom of the rail. The passenger side is perfect. So, how common is this? Is it enough of a safety hazard to address (she does no off-roading)? I'm inclined to clean it thoroughly and abate it with some chemical to prevent further rot and let it go, but I'm no expert on these vehicles. If it needs to be fixed I guess welding plates over the damage would be a good way to do it. Thanks. | ||

I would try to get the rust stopped by physically removing the damaged area and chemically treating the surrounding area and than plating it. | ||

Weld the small spots and cut out the worst pieces and weld in some new plates. | ||

anybody ever use "Green Grease" http://www.greengrease.net/ I was having a little difficulty removing the rear track bar and dropped it off at a local shop. They tend to charge more to fix things that owners have hosed up...  Glad I did! They ended up having to use a hot wrench to get it apart.  When I was picking it up, they suggested I use marine grease on my suspension due to the fact I have been known to do some deep water ops. Has anyone used "Green Grease"? Jeep forum peeps tend to like it. But I trust badweb opinions a lot more... | ||
