I've been searching for a freeware app that will allow me to recover data from my cell phone's micro SD card... for some unknown reason, my HTC Google phone no longer recognizes the card format, and won't "mount" the card for access.

A friend in the cel phone biz directed me to C-Net to search, no luck so far. "Bing"ed it too, no dice...

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, so I'm asking my BW buds. I've WAY too many pics on that micro SD card to lose, so I need to figure something out.
If anyone can help, post up!

Thanks in advance, youn's.

Did you try plugging it into a PC with a USB card reader?

Yeah, but the card is a micro-SD. I've tried a few times to plug the phone into the PC to diagnose and fix it, no worky so far... trying NOT to blow $50 or whatever $$$ they're asking for what I'm thinking <should> be a simple task.

Get a micro-sd card adapter. You stuff the micro into the larger form factor adapter, then plug that into the PC reader.

Duuhh! Thanks, Hoot, I'll look for that doodad this afternoon...

Still looking for a co$t-free fix though. I'm in no hurry, just aggravated, and I can't take pics until this is fixed.
NBD, other than the sentimental, irreplaceable pics I've neglected to back-up.

For freeware, Recuva works great http://www.piriform.com/recuva

I've used R-Studio in the past, it is not free but it works so good it likely can recover JFK's memories. The demo version won't let you recover, but it can show you what it can find. http://www.r-studio.com/

Like Hoot said, you need to use a USB adapter for the card, not have it plugged into the phone. Something like this would work great - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9S IA2MR2PD5427

Frogs, I KNEW you could help! Once I get the adapter, I'll try that.

I love you guys!

Frank, next time I see ya, I owe you a BBQ or better dinner, and your choice of libation.

I've never seen one of those before. Took me a sec to figure out how it worked. Brilliant!

If you are in a rush to get it, this guy is basically the same thing, a little more expensive but if you have Amazon Prime you can get free 2 days shipping http://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-MicroSD-Reader-Writer -GFR204SD/dp/B0046TJG1U

I have a pile of micro-sd to SD and micro-sd to USB adapters. I'd be happy to ship you one, but you could probably buy it locally for less than I would pay to ship it.

Often the micro-sd to sd adapters come with the cards.

+1 to Froggy's recommendation for Recuva from Piriform. It is a pretty good home-user level recovery tool.

If you have lost faith in that card, you could buy a replacement card that comes with the adapter.
2 birds and all that.

Hey Frogs- I downloaded the Recuva freeware, started the scan last night before I went to bed, and it said it'd take 4 hours (!)...
woke up and it's STILL running, 43% done, and it's estimating another 12 hours runtime!!

I "get" it being slow due to being freeware, but, dang! I checked out a couple other programs, and they were too much $$$, plus they sounded sketchy about how they would bill me...

Oh well. At this point I'll just see what happens... has anyone here actually used Recuva for the same purpose as me?

Yep it can take a while, depends on how bad the card is, how slow your computer is, how much data it can find, etc.

Well- after it FINALLY finished, it showed a bazillion things, lots of "memes", pics I'd never taken, porn I'd never looked at, and I only got back a handful of images I'd hoped for.

One of the other "pay to play" programs I'd found on C-Net allowed me to preview ALL of my images, but then, off goes the $$$. I'd not looked into the R-studio yet, guess that's next. I wouldn't mind paying a small fee, not $50 or more... there are several sentimental pics I need to get back.

I wouldn't put it past the makers of shareware to put in "false found" stuff into the results they generate. I can think of a few reasons they might do this.

Was the card new when you put it in your cell?

Hoot- no, it was transferred from my saltwater-killed old cel phone, worked fine until recently.

Thanks, all, for your input.
