My opinion about what motorcycling is isn't an opinion but a fact. I don't care what you think, ride or anything else! It's my way or the highway (But not on a bike fella, no curves to carve on the highway).

Boy when they shut off the lights, they don't mess around. Surprised the website went down as fast as it did.

Really bummed about this.

Certainly not the news any of us wanted to hear and hope all works out for everyone employed at EBR and their dealerships. There's likely a silver lining for some, but hardships for many others. Erik gave it a go and built some awesome bikes, will be interesting to see how things shake out.

Bulliedan, I hope things turn out to be recoverable for your sake. I hope it's gamesmanship right now until the money side get's right, as someone has suggested.

Nah, youre a few grand high

Maybe so, but $18k for a fully loaded Vaquero is high as well... they can be had for around $13k.

and EBR bikes use Rotax

pretty sure EBR owns the engine they used, based on a Rotax but they bought the molds so to speak. right?

Heavy hearted but hopeful right now. Erik and the elves, all those who race on ebr machines, and ebr dealers (our locals, buelliedan and co., in particular) are all in our thoughts this evening.

Was pleased to see Erik quoted in this past weekends Cheyenne Sunday paper...was not expecting this.

Reference to Court that made me laugh: "2009 just called - they want their pep talk back. Yeah, I've heard that one before."

I haven't been on here for a couple of years, but I knew I'd see Court blowing smoke up his/ours asses. One of the reasons why I stopped visiting BadWeb, too many blowhards. Reality sucks.

Yes, none of the RX/SX used Rotax motors. By that point all assembly was brought in-house. Moot point now though.

"Maybe so, but $18k for a fully loaded Vaquero is high as well... they can be had for around $13k."

MSRP is just under 17k.
Road King MSRP is 20.500

Im sure they can both be had for thousands less than MSRP, but its not the cost difference that some might think (when originally stating the 18 vs 25k)

In the end, whatever, buy what you like and can afford.

So, while I have been dead broke before and have taken the only job I could find to feed my family, I never felt a sense of surprise. I could tell that the ax was coming. Business is business, but this couldn't have been a surprise. Why the bloodbath? Does receivership mean a creditor filed to close the door?

Agreed. I don't knock people who buy Harleys, in fact I look at all bikes with the same critical eye... the small details and the overall picture.

Knock yourself out, I say... it ain't my money.

For fans of a company that built motorcycles primarily for sport riding, you guys sure are beating up on old Fresno for not liking cruisers. In my opinion, most of the thrill of riding comes from.. the thrill of riding. There are plenty of bikes that suck to ride and kill the thrill. Given the choice between driving something fun or riding something I hated, I'd take the four-wheeled alternative. Of course, I'd get bitter and grouchy from lack of riding, just like I do every winter, but I'd be yearning for something rewarding, not some bloated behemoth.

It works!

This is the default web page for this server.

The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.

This is what's on EBR's website. Could it be one of Court's good things?

My personal theory: There's a game of hardball going on and Hero just threw a chin high fastball over the inside of the plate.

Receivership is an alternative to bankruptcy that allows for protection while help is obtained to structure the debts to be repaid. Erik isn't planning to kill the brand just yet it seems. This looks more like stop gap to allow him to keep his company rather than sell his majority shares during a game of hardball...

Speaking honestly... I am not surprised. The business model had some obvious flaws. The RX and SX have an extremely small target market and were up against some stiff competition.

Watching to see what comes out of the ashes.

No matter what happens with EBR, it will not have an impact on the rank and file Buell enthusiasts that I know. It is a disappointing development, but it will not change the fact that owners of the previous iterations have been and will be on their own for the most part anyway.

I knew when the EBR products were coming out that I would never chose to own one. It's the price. As Pwnzor said, too much dough for a 1 up vehicle. Coincidentally, I am looking at an HMC ride for my wife and I. And don't tell Mike Conley that a bagger cannot canyon carve, because he will kick your sport bike in the tail light with his riding.

But this is not a good testimony at all for EBR and I think we are all disappointed. No matter how you spin this, something went wrong. Erik himself has to be under immense pressure and grief right now. There are big things to be afraid of when you are involved in an enterprise that goes south.

I hope Erik at some point will be able to move forward.

Back to my S2.

Sad news to say the least! I truly thought the AX model would have sold like crazy! That's the market I see where motorcycle companies are going to go! I went to the Chicago IMS this year and almost all of the interest was being shown were at the cruisers and the dual sport bikes.

Where I live I see approx 10 to 12 cruisers and dual sport motorcycles to every crotch rocket and the few riders I see riding crotch rockets are the smaller cc Japanese models that are cheap enough for the kids to afford!
I was looking forward to the AX but since that is dead now, I'll just continue to ride the best and most comfortable motorcycle ever made, my 2006 Ulysses.

Bad news, and I came here hoping you lot would be a little more in the know, but it seems not.
I was considering a Buell when the 1125R was going heavily discounted ($10K AUD inc ORC 29/10/09), but I'd heard they were having trouble with their stators and warranty replacements weren't available. Then Harley dropped them days later.
By the time EBR products made their way down under, I couldn't justify paying $28K for whatever refinements went into the 1190RX/SX. Seems like no-one else could either...
I did hope that things would progress from there though.
I wonder what's the story with Hero Motocorp? Maybe Buell as a post-Honda brand building exercise wasn't working for them. Then again they just sponsored Tiger Woods for something like $6M US. Their stock hasn't being doing so well this year, their new 250cc (HX250R) range still hasn't appeared, and apparently they just invested heavily to diversify into defence contracting. So I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising if Buell's funding dried up.

I was at the EBR dealer in Chicago a few weeks ago, he also sells Ducati, Triumph, KTM, Appralli, and one other brand that I can't remember right now but the one motorcycle that caught my eye the most was the Triumph Bonnieville! A comfortable sharp looking motorcycle for around $9000. Plenty fast enough for me. The Ducati Multistrata was nice but too expensive and the Monster just didn't feel right for me.

At the Chicago IMS this year I liked the BMW RS1200 was my favorite at the show but it's still not as nice as my Ulysses!

I'm going to start stocking up on replacement parts for my Ulysses now that the AX model is dead. The Uly is a keeper!

This seems to be a new addition to the Journal Sentinel article:

quote:

Bids will be solicited for the company as part of the Chapter 128 process, with the winning bid to be determined by a state court. At the company's request, attorney Michael S. Polsky will be the court-appointed receiver.

Any proposed sale is subject to court approval and higher or better bids, according to Polsky. The company anticipates that its assets will be sold, according to a state Department of Workforce Development notice that announced the immediate termination of the employees.

And there is the perfect summary...

The people I feel the worst for are the people that come here and feel the need to celebrate the pain of others who pursued their dreams and vision against great odds.
