I installed a DDM Tuning HID setup for the low beam of my XB12S over the winter then went to get my Virginia safety inspection last week. The inspector said he would have to reject it. I put the stock bulb back in long enough to pass. I just google searched and the VA law seems pretty vague. Have other Badwebbers in inspection states had this happen? Has anyone been stopped by a LEO just for a too-bright headlight or I guess for an additional charge?

If you move to Georgia, you can apparently put as many lights as you want, as bright as you want. People here go balls-out on forward lighting.

Virginia is funny about stuff... no radar detectors, license plates on the wrong end of commercial vehicles, etc.

Aftermarket HIDs are illegal as they are not DOT approved like off the shelf halogen bulbs. They likely can't get DOT certified either due to the lack of a self leveling system.

That said I've not heard of anyone on a bike get stopped for them, but I've heard of people with them on cars/trucks get pulled over, likely due to them being poorly adjusted and blinding everyone. I've personally been pulled over in my car for driving with the highbeams on, likely the cop just wanted an excuse to see if I was DUI.

Virginia is generally communist territory.

Ft bstrd,
It isn't called a "Commonwealth" for nothing.

Here in Hawai'i, it they work you're good.

I remember in New Jerkme..er I mean Jersey they actually checked to see if the headlights were aimed correctly.
