OK- I know that the IRS DOES NOT call you if your taxes are wrong/in arrears/yadda yadda. I have 0% concern that there's anything wrong.

They send you A LETTER, via USPS.

I've gotten 2-3 calls today. The last one said "a lawsuit has been filed against you."

I'm in the habit of not answering calls with weird area codes, but I accidentally answered one from a 360 area code today- the sun blocked clear view of my screen, and I was expecting a call from a tree guy...

Anyhoo, WTF, over? I am not alarmed at all, just PI$$3D. OFF. Wish I could reach through the phone, and pinch the d|cks head clean off.
I feel that with adrenaline and my strong throttle/brake hand, no prob at all. Puns intended.

Is there a new # to call for the "DO NOT CALL/SOLICIT/WASTE MY TIME" people?

We did use TurboTax this year, as we did last year, just scanned/not read that they'd recently had a data breach?!?!?

DISCUSS.

BTW, the 2nd # was from a 725 area code.

OK, gotta get yard stuff done, maybe run some speaker wire to my newly installed Yamaha outdoor speakers.

Tell them you are busy and ask for a number to call them back at.

Or insist that you know you must pay, but will only do so in person since you must have a paper receipt.

Scammers ignore the do not call list...

The scum is probably not in the U.S.
There is probably very little you can do beyond logging the times of the calls and giving that over to the phone company.

This is often the case, and often they are spoofing the caller ID number so it is not even their real number.

Also on a related note, if someone with an Indian accent calls claiming to be from Microsoft tech support, that it also a scam.

I have a blacklist app. It has a whitelist mode. I haven't had this kind of problem, but if I did, I think I would be willing to use it. Not on the list? You get a busy signal.

I installed a whitepages app on my android. Don't want the # to call again? Click the "block" button. Done.

Just for the sake of gaining intel, how would these clowns expect to get your money?
Would you be able to play ball with them enough to figure out where/who they are without actually putting out any of your real info/money?

The popular thing these days is Moneypak, which is a reloadable gift card, and you give them the card info, and they transfer it or withdraw it as cash overseas.

Blocking the phone number doesn't really help, as they typically use a new number with each call.

I had some fun with the Microsoft call. After listening to the speil I told them to send me $5,000 and then I would ship my laptop to them for cleansing. I actually left the guy speechless for a bit.
When he said that he couldn't do that I asked for his supervisor since they did it for me in the past.
I kept him tied up for quite awhile before he gave up on me.

A friend of mine recently set up a SIP based PBX at his house. He runs it on his existing VMware server. Costs him about $15 a month for several phone lines, including a toll free number for his business. He has a voice menu on his home number. Callers get a message that says the call is being recorded (and it is) and that to speak with him, you have to press 1. This completely baffles the robo callers. The software is free for up to two numbers. If you're interested, I'll get all the particulars from him.

Income tax scammers have made off with 63 billion dollars in the last five years by filing an income tax form for a refund with your social security number. It takes a year and a half to get it straightened out to get your refund. At 63 billion dollars, you would think the IRS would have some better security as to who you really are and how the refunds are issued.... WTF?

whatever you do DO NOT call back the numbers. many of these numbers are overseas and will charge you to call them and the phone companies will not take it off your bill if you called them!

We got a call today in fact. They left a message with a foreign accent. Silly.
