They don't say what constitutes a failure. Does that mean burnt out headlight counts? Or only engine failure? | ||

I must point out that magazine, which I like, tested mountain bikes by riding them along a ladder laying on the ground. (For the bumps, I suppose) Then rated one model tops and another unacceptable, however the only difference between them was the decals, since both were made in China spec models with the exact same frame & parts made in the same factory on the same line. The difference was assembly. A buddy runs a bike shop and rebuilds each bike out of the box with new ball bearings & lube, adjusts the brakes and gear train and offers free tuneups for life. The same model from Wal-Mart may kill you when the high school student puts the brakes on backwards. True, Consumer Reports does a nice job, but they tend to love Hondas & Priuses, and may not have a clue what a motorcycle looks like. They do have a giant machine to test mattresses. | ||

They did basically the same thing with the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe many years back, despite them being nearly identical cars. The almighty flawless Toyota couldn't be faulted while the creaky clunky poorly built Vibe should be crushed. They were engineered by the same team and built at the same factory. | ||

Consumer Reports suffers from feedback look failure. Consumer Reports deems a car marque as "trouble prone" and those who review car models become more critical of the "trouble prone" models, more critical. Now, that said, I have a Honda and a Toyota product both sitting in the driveway with over 225,000 each on the odometer. | ||

...They don't say what constitutes a failure. When the goal posts are on wheels . . .it doesn't matter how many yards you rush. "I'm the tallest in the room" . . . tells you nothing about the height of the sample. | ||

Are BMWs really that bad? I'm a bit surprised. I would be more likely to think that BMW owners are that picky. It's one of the problems that CR has in how they get their information through survey. | ||
