I just boarded a flight ...... Looking closely at the pilots ..... One of them gets up ...... I'm keeping a close eye on them.

I fly a lot lately and.... With each passing day .... Things get more "not like they used to be".

:-)

Ever since 9-11, I size up everybody on the plane.

I will be the first one to tackle the sumbitch that tries to interrupt my flight.

That was quick .......Headed back to terminal .... We were on runway and another aircraft reported our luggage door was hanging open.

3 delays so far.

Pwnzor, I'm the same way, although, I tend to do that everywhere. When I walk into a restaurant, I scan every face. When I leave a building and walk across a parking lot, my head's on a swivel.

I recently sat on the runway in Palm Springs for over two hours while they "calculate the weight balance" from all the luggage on the plane, so they could decide whether or not they needed to pump fuel into different tanks...

Then we went back to the terminal and waited while they unloaded all the cargo and luggage, so they could actually weigh it in the first place.

I had a friend make me a cane out of cedar, the same length as the rattan sword I use in martial arts for airline travel.

I go through several rattan versions every year, both in sparring and Pell practice.

Which reminds me. I need a new pell. A 7 foot 4x4 wrapped in carpet works great with a sturdy base. I think I'll go for a junk yard tire & wheel this time, full of water. That way I will stop breaking wood bases.

Yes, I do practice a closed form suitable for tight spaces like about airplane aisle.

Happy to teach anyone the basics.

My paranoia tells me strange things can happen anywhere. Last year, on my annual fishing trip to the Bemidji,Mn. area I met, and had lunch with a long time friend at a local Ground Round restaurant. As we were waiting for our meal to be served two Muslim looking guys came in, carrying back packs, and sat in a booth. My curiosity rose and I kept a close eye on these two wondering if they left and left the backpacks behind I would take some kind of action......immediately. As it turned out they were probably two Bemidji University students with radical views but meant no harm as they left with the backpacks. Still, I believe we are at a time in our lives that tremendous awareness is needed to keep us all safe. Many of our younger kids, looking for a cause to follow, are being recruited to Muslim cells, or something other, anywhere, and could possibly do something radical just to be recognized. All radical people or movements like to recruit younger, more vulnerable people that are seeking a cause to follow. Sad but its life in 2015.

Bob - "two Muslim looking guys came in"
Let me guess, they were brown? Middle-eastern looking?
Open your eyes brother

Muslims arent the only religious group recruiting youth that are looking for a cause.

As for the German flight, dang shame that scumbag had to take out 150 folks with him just because he was bummed out. Go get a hand of rope, borrow a rifle, drive off a cliff, whatever, but instead he chose to take so many with him

If it walks likes a duck, and quacks like a duck, it just might be a duck. Gotta be careful these days. Could have been a duck bomb.

Re: "Muslim looking guys".

Actually grooming is specified in the Koran.

The rule is to grow a beard so you are not mistaken for a Roman. Trimmed so you are not mistaken for a Jew.

Seriously. It's the law.

You see a dark skinned Semitic face with curly sideburns and beard, looking like it took more time than ZZ TOP, and you can fairly guess a Sephardic Jew. Same face clean shaven can be anyone. Trimmed beard from the last mullah you saw on tv, to the short trim on the former Prez of Iran, you can guess Muslim.

You seldom get the curly look on others except some few hippies, but clean shaven or trimmed beard are common to most cultures.

There are other cultural cues.

Shuffling walk, sure footed and fast, even, comes from taking your shoes off many times a day. It's just easier to step on the back of the shoe and wear it like a slipper.
Some guy's in a nice suit with $350 shoes, and the backs are stepped on? Muslim or software millionaire.

Personal space.

Americans have the greatest stand off distance. Even more than Germans, where we got that meme.
Asians have far less personal space, even rubbing by each other in the street.

Arabs have a bit more, but are comfortable much closer than Americans, and even hold hands when in discussions and walking.

Remember the pics of Bush holding hands with the Saudi King? He had a very smart advisor. That's a deliberate sign of seriousness & trust to Arabs.

( the bow business with Barack Obama is different. U.S. president's do not bow. Americans are citizens, not subjects, and our leaders do not bow for us. Again, seriously, It's been protocol for two centuries )

The personal space thing is very real. An American talking to an Arab ( or other close space people) has an unconscious feeling of being come on to, and tends to back up. The Arab feels the American is being distant, and tends to close the gap. Watch at a party and you can see this dance between people of different cultures. ... people slowly circling the room, talking friendly, but uneasy for reasons they don't consciously realize.

Why are we not surprised this happens to your flight?

Is this some kind of clandestine code or something?

No, but the only group I'm aware of or concerned with that is running around murdering people based on their warped beliefs.

Aesquire, thanks for clarifying my point. These guys had all the characteristics you described perfectly and it was exactly that which aroused my awareness.

And Hybrid, I am far from being a racist and take each person I learn to know as an individual and love most but, first impressions mean a lot and how you look does greatly trigger a persons first reaction. I know personally from going through the 60's with long hair and a mustache in a very conservative trade as a husband and father. I had to prove myself every day and was always accepted for the conservative I was very shortly. We all had to learn looks can be deceiving. It still does trigger a negative response though when you show up for a job or other endeavor with a distinctive "look". And sometimes, with the really bad guys, or ladies, you have very little time to decide and stay safe. I stand by the decision I made at the time in that instance. And yes I do quietly and privately profile all the time and surely avoid all confrontations I can and stay safe. Also, I do CC. With all due respect, Bob

who is 'radical'....
probably anyone that doesn't go along with the DC / MSM trype.

Remember, State Department is funding, training, supplying and giving assistance to ISIS - they are our mannequin mutt cut out in the region. Useful dogs.

so who is 'radical' ?

One error in that sticker. The peace symbol wouldn't be trying to get away, convinced that unilateral pacifism would protect it.

I totally agree with that statement and I especially disagree with those "radicals" who want to kill me JUST for being a Christian.

And Ourdee: How about adding a symbol for karma if there is one.

Good thread guys and thanks for keeping it on point and like gentlemen. Bob
