we have seen are first snow this week, not even enough to cover the grass, but there none the less. there is white stuff falling from the sky currently, although it also wont amount to anything yet.

Speaking of sleds - These people always put on a good cycle show, no reason to assume that they won't do a good job with sleds as well

If you are going to be in the Syracuse, NY area you might want to check the show out

took the kiddos to a grass drag a month or so ago. they both thought it was pretty cool for awhile! just like me they dont want to watch races all day though...

got the prowler mostly fixed up! got the filler neck repaired. between the very snug fit, and the epoxy squished between the crack and on the tube, it shouldnt move. before the epoxy even set it was solid enough to pick the tank up by.

added an extra set of hood straps about mid way along the side of the hood. then built some new brackets for the front as a way to secure the hood better since the hinges got broken off the hood in the crash. and used some hand bolts to make it easily removable on the trail.

the hyfax was trashed, so instead of buying new for this one, dad needed a set for his long track anyway... took his old extra long ones, shortened them up, spun them 180 degrees(to put the thickest part back up near where these get the most wear, drilled and counter sunk some new holes and wahla (who would have thought arctic cat would use the same hyfax profile between a 91 prowler 121, and an 05 M7 141...)

then.... got out for my first ride of the year on the night before thanksgiving! only rode for about 10-15 minutes just to make sure it would hold together. still missing the outside rear bogey wheels that are on backorder... we have only and couple inches of snow max.

loaded it up and hauled it back to dad when we went to thanksgiving supper.

(pit stop at moms for dinner and some hot tubbing with Jenn and my daughter Alexus. it was about 2 degrees! wish we would have been up there the night before doing this when it was completely calm with a light snow. perfect weather for it!)

let Alexus spend a good half hour or so making laps with the prowler doing a better shake down run.

with me on it and getting on the gas, it was obvious the track was to loose... and i think i figured out our running issue from last year. i took off riding it for a few minutes before we parked it in the shed, and it started bogging down again. no power and sounding funny. like an exhaust leak but not as loud(i had to weld some broken exhaust as part of the crash fix) it would pick up, die down, pick up, die down... similar to last year.

took the hood off thinking maybe a plug or wire short. both cylinders sparking just fine at the wire, but one side made no change when the wire was taken off... change plugs. still not working... so... not getting fuel would be the next thought. maybe the carb is hanging up inside. rap on the carb body with a screwdriver... wtf?! it bounces around... the carb had come loose from the intake just enough, but not completely out of place. you have to be kidding. mount it back up and runs like a top again. even with that the thing would fire up first pull all the time even after sitting all summer. and here i thought the clutch was hanging up last year...

anywho, during the time she was riding the prowler, Dad and i brought the ZR900 down from the rafters of the shop, and got that fired up. i had almost forgotten how quick that thing is. took it easy on it for a few minutes, then went out into the bean field and light it up. with minimal snow meaning plenty of traction that thing yanked the skis for a good ways and screamed right on past 100 like it wasnt even there. ah... big bore 2 stroke love!

i also probably jumped the driveway a dozen or so times... Alexus would just laugh and shake her head

then yesterday, after spending the better part of sunday and monday cleaning my garage and rearranging things to make more room...

i finally got to start on this!!! now if the rest of the parts show up soon... atleast i have a couple weeks yet before the first trip...

We are truly short on snow here as well. I think I am going to dig out my downhill skis this week.

All the ski resorts have been making snow with this ultra-cold weather. May as well get some sort of exercise while waiting for more snow.

I'm sure Northern Wisconsin will be mauled with traffic from the 5-state region as they have over 100" of snow on the ground!

well i got some more done on the sled. although im not sure we will be doing the christmas trip since the snow is quickly dwindling... :-(

got some heavier duty belt guards installed. did a belly pan guard, an upper belt guard and a shield on the brake rotor so it doesnt spray as much crud on the clutches.

had to cut up my brand new upper guard to fit the add on vent in the hood for the secondary clutch. got to chop up my new hood too...

new belt guards after surgery

the vent on top of the guard is stock, the big tube aimed right at the secondary is the add on. it should flow some air!

how the side panel looked originally

got the decal peeled off and did some drilling and cut a pass through hole.

got it test fit(still painting the mesh that covers the openning) and was able to trim and refit the original decal. doesnt look to bad

and the wrap for my headlight got done so thats ready to go back together also!

the powder coating im having done was suppose to be done monday or tuesday... now maybe by tonight or tomorrow morning...

hopefully i get it back together and get to ride it soon :-P

This lack of snow is driving me stupid-crazy! I can't believe we had a forecast for 3-4 days of snow, and we have had nothing but rain up until now!

We have snow coming down now, but it has been so warm, it won't stick. It was 32 this morning, just pitiful. I can't even extend this holiday week for riding. The perfect time to take off and goof off, but no snow. Grrrr.

I guess I will save my days off for snow days

i know right?! what the heck is going on???!!!

we are currently in wisconsin for christmas with the sleds... we have been getting some snow, but its so warm its just slop.

well i got the sled together enough for now to bring it up here for the winter. still probably add handguards, and maybe a silencer this year. then maybe over the summer tear down the rear skid again and powder coat the rails.

so here it is! White C&A pro razor skis, white powder coated a-arms, white racewerxs mountain bumper, powder coated the handlebar riser white, arctic cat secondary clutch vent, green arctic cat skid plate, belanger racing upper belt guard, lower inner bellypan protector, and brake rotor cover as well as 8" 4 wheel rear idler kit.

before and after

still havent ridden it... ugh.

but i did take the ZR900 out for a short spin today with my dad on his polaris. went to check the trail conditions near the house.

we have to run alot of marsh land to get anywhere...

against my normal better judgement, we were taking it pretty easy. we had already crossed this spot on the way and this was after we turned around to come back... i had basically idled through it the first time. this time the ice decided to break... lol. if it would have been just water i wouldnt have been trying to keep the splash under control!

it was still a fun adventure with dad lol!

and im glad i decided not to take out the new sled.

This was the... er... "sledding" near Traverse City MI for Christmas.

The lake a pretty interesting look to it though. It almost looked like fog that you could just see down into, but had a skim of water on top that gave a great reflection. Kind of a neat look.

in the spring me and brother would skate on that, right now it's probably not safe but in the spring we'd be out there throwing water in each other's faces. Very cool pic!

guess i never mentioned that i FINALLY got to ride the new sled... for a whole 64 miles... a few days after my previous post about mudding on the snowmobiles, lol.

the rest of the family left to head back home on christmas, while Jenn and i stayed fri/sat/sun yet and headed home late sunday night.

we got some snow on friday night/saturday morning, buuuuuttttt Jenn and i partied a little to hard on friday night! so we didnt do much of anything saturday except lounge around and relax.

sunday the temps had dropped some more as well as another couple inches of snow, so i said what the heck, we are going to head south and see how that trail goes(i already showed you how the trail north looked a few days earlier!)

so, on to the pics!

the poor thing doesnt know what to do... first time in the snow.

both the beasts ready to hit the trails

even played out on the nice fresh powder on one of the lakes. i had to carefully pick our spot to stop for the pics though. lots of thin ice and open water!

Jenn was all stressed out about having to skip some water down in the marshes on the trail, and then on the lake. "when in doubt, throttle out!"

she did a great job and never missed a beat. although with the first small water crossing, i was a ways ahead of her when i came upon it rounding a bend on the trail, so as soon as i could be out of the way i ran back and started waving for her to kick it in the rear as she came around the corner... there was a second of full on brakes, then a scream, then she whacked the throttle and jumped it across. i wish i had it on video!

Very nice we finally got out as well last weekend.

We put on 170 miles in two days. No other sleds out as nobody thinks there is snow to ride. This is our secret little honey hole!

We had to take a few laps on a section that we were pushing around 80mph and I could blip my throttle at the lip of the burms and pull really nice power wheelies at that speed. It felt so good to ride again.

We had -20f Saturday, and -8 Sunday. Good clothing was gold for us!

glad you got some riding in! and cresting hills like that is always fun!

with only 64 miles on the new sled, im still waiting for it to wake up... i will say that so far i am severely disappointed in its performance. but i will hold judgment on that until its good and broken in. seems as the consensus is that these motors seem to take a few hundred miles atleast to get good and loosened up, and that there is a drastic difference you will feel once that happens.

i also still have alot of trial and error to do on the suspension. i think the RR has even more adjustments then the buell suspension... lol. actually it does since its air adjustable also.

i head back up next wednesday night, then Jenn and I go back twice in Febuary also.

this is all assuming something good(for snowmobiling atleast) happens pretty soon...

The ECU in all of the new EFI sleds will limit them for at least 500 miles and again at 1000.

So aside for the natural "loosening up" the computer will limit them. All the manufacturers are doing it. Mine has officially loosened up now that I am well past 1300 miles and still within it's first year.

We put on over 360 miles this past week in Michigan. My favorite part of the trip was finding the "top speed" setting on my Garmin GPS. We did some speed laps on Lake Gogebic and mine hit 113mph on GPS!! That is fast no matter what color sled you ride!

Got in 60 more miles on Saturday. We are in dire need of snow. What's amazing is how some lakes are different than others.

One lake will have 3-5" of loose now, and the next will be so hard packed that only the carbides and tips of the lugs on the track will carve the snow.

Enjoy this little video before the YouTube police take it down for using licensed music.

looks like you and your daughter had a fun day!!!!

i did get back up to wisconsin again a couple weeks ago. did close to 100 miles a day for 3 days. was a couples trip although Jenn had a crossfit competition so i went solo with my Dad, stepmom and their friends. being a couples trip, we didnt get our normal kind of mileage...

but i do now have around 350-360 on the new sled! and im getting it dialed in :-)

the first day(not everyone had showed up yet) dad rode my zr900 that Jenn usually rides, since we needed another sled until the rest showed up.

all cats except dads one polaris in the back

Mmmmm fresh groomed trail!

i seem to end up leading anymore. i suppose i play more, and this way I'M the one that gets to catch all the surprises like other sleds, and the 10' spot of missing trail(big hole broken through the ice. with the water probably 8" down from the ice...) i found while rounding a corner at speed...

the headlight adjustment is a problem area on the procross chassis. while messing with them i only half pushed the hi/low switch... all kinds of good light! for about 5 seconds, before it blew the fuse... at dusk... first i had to find the fuse, then realize that the sled carries no spares...

so i led the rest of the next 4 hours or so home, like this. lol.

i stuck my goggles on top of my helmet and ran the strap down under my chin. then took my little 7 led flashlight and stuck it between the helmet and goggle strap. whala! good to go. and i still had to keep waiting on everyone.

the rest of the crew when they got there. 11 in total.

ok, as long as she is cute...

beauty shot

the snow was getting VERY thin. we rode thurs, fri, saturday. i wouldnt have wanted to ride sunday but people were. there was alot of dirt. and to many rocks on some of the thin trails. it got WARM.

saturday night was the first time i had the temp light kick on. trying to lead a group of 11 people, 2 of which decided they would no longer go over 20 mph was taking its toll. on me and my sled... low to no snow, and no air movement. ugh. i finally just said i couldnt run this pace and let my dad lead the rest of the people. got some airflow and got the sled to cool down.

Jenn and I are suppose to go back thursday night for for 4 days. then again in 2 weeks for another 5. right now i still dont know if we will go this weekend. havent heard of any decent snowfall there(we got about 10 inches here this weekend... wth?!) since I left a couple weeks ago.

IT'S SNOWING IN FREAKING MINNESOTA!!!! That filthy mother nature is finally blessing us with some white stuff!!

We got out for 80+ miles last Saturday. I would say I am getting tired of the same loops since we have limited snow, but I'm not. I will do it till I'm dizzy. It's riding!

Y'know, I'm a Tennessee boy, born and raised here, and I've traveled around a fair bit, but not nearly as much as some here on BW...
I've never been on a snowmobile. Heck, not sure if I've ever SEEN one in person...

I get a kick out of this thread.

An educated guess: With the right gear (I'd definitely need electrics), and proper trail provisions, it'd be a hoot out there in all the white stuff. I'd LOVE the scenery, for sure.

Here in TN and the greater Appalachian region, I'm feeling a need to invest in a good 4-wheeler. Similar deployment, but without the necessity of regular, heavy snow...

Please continue! (Insert popcorn smiley here...)

We need a lot more snow in MN. We've had to race on the ice this year. Getting enough traction is hard and getting expensive. The next race is going to be 2 laps, 60 miles total. I've added a few studs last weekend. I'm up to 72 in a 114" track. I'm doing a fun run radar run sat. I'm using it as a test'n'tune for the next race on the 28th.

Jenn and i just did another sled trip. left thursday night for another 4 days in wisconsin.

id like to mention, that i am SUPER PROUD of her. after spending a bit more time working on her technique, she has finally been able to yank over and start the zr900 all by herself(as long as its not cold from sitting over night etc...) you really have to commit to starting the big bore sleds. i know plenty of guys that couldnt seem to start my 800 and 1000 triples or this zr900, even though they are all usually a one pull sled.

its a full body pull for someone of her size. i showed her how I start them when its really cold over night and they need some extra oomph to get going. plant your right foot on the footwell, pull the cord until the recoil catches, keep it snug, lean towards the front of the sled, then kick your left leg back hard, push off with your right foot and let your body go with it... just as your arms get completely out stretched, use the weight/momentum of your body and yank the cord with your arms... pops right off! even doing that, she is RIGHT at the end of the pull when the old beast pops off.

none the less, she can get it started pretty consistently now! yay!!! especially because now i dont have to walk over and start it for her lol.

i like the trips with just us for many reasons, but one of which is that we get more riding done. we dont have to stop all the time for whatever reason like we do when a whole group goes. we did 155 miles on saturday and we didnt leave the house till 1:30 pm

i also added some barkbusters to the zr900 for Jenn, as well as got a set of the powermadd gauntlets. one of her bigger complaints has been cold hands, so i figured i may as well do what i can to fix that. luckily she is very happy with my fix! even had the hand warmers turned off some of the time because her hands were sweating!

we did some drag racing on the lake when we were playing around. these 2 sleds are so close in performance. one can not out pull the other. the zr900 weighs more then the F800, but the 900 feels to have more torque. Jenn is also a good 50 pounds lighter then me so i bet over all weight wise we were pretty close sled to sled. i kept saying i didnt think the new sled would outrun the old sled and apparently im right those zr900's (especially the 03 like mine without the power robbing diamond drive) are a hard act to follow. but... the thundercat whooped up on the 900 ; ) yes i miss it.

anyway, we found some pretty good trails, and some REALLY REALLY BAD trails. friday we headed northwest, and found some trails that had decent snow as well as not much traffic. we ran a great pace. it was alot of fun playing around! saturday we headed northeast, and that was a mistake. as we got closer to the top of the loop we had figured would be our fuel stop and head southeast, we got into probably 10+ miles of really whooped out snirt. maybe managing 20 mph or so... and then it somehow got worse. we pulled out of the trees into an opening and suddenly i thought we were in iowa. the trails started running across hay fields, and the edge of corn fields. needless to say with the low snowfall totals this year, the areas with no tree cover had no snow either... another 6-8 miles where we hopped back and forth alot even to find any snow...it was very sketchy.

when we made our fuel stop, we were trying to decide what to do... continue on and hope as we head south that we would get back to snow, or turn around and go with the bad stuff we know. luckily some guys came from the direction we wanted to go and said 5-6 miles of crap and we would hit good trails again. they were headed the way we came from and i convinced them to rethink that...

we still managed to have a good day, and find some beautiful views!

on the down side, my headlight decal is already bubbling :-( there is some clear layer over it that must be lifting because of the heat. oh well, guess ill run it until it looks bad enough to take off. you really cant see it unless you take a close look

buuuut, we did stop at Bikeman Performance on the way home, since we go pretty close by... and i picked up a new muffler for the F800. their powder light silencer is anything but. its 5 or less pounds, but very very loud. i didnt buy that one...

the one I bought is their full velocity it is supopose to be about 11 pounds. which is also 11 pounds lighter then stock...! and has a fairly close to stock db when at idle and stays mellow below 1/4 throttle. then starts to wake up pretty good as you lay into it, with a nice deep thump.

cant wait to put it on...

we head back again next tuesday night for the rest of the week. hopefully they get some more snow in the mean time.

there is a very good chance that will be the last riding i do for the year :-( we are heading to marchbadness 3rd weekend in march so unless its the first or second weekend i dont see it happening. plus we would have to be able to get away again in the first place...

Yes, and right Now they are saying it's some of the best riding They have had all year... we made or last trip for the year(unless I can get away for another late season one if snow shows up) I got 1110 miles on the new sled. 11 days of riding. Well if you can call a few if them days, when we barely rode a couple hours.

We have our first bike trip for the year in a couple weeks... headed to glitchtoberfest. Then I get home and 2 days later Chili and I fly to cali to go do more riding. But I am stopping in Colorado on the flight home from Cali to do a little skiing with my cousin :-)

I've got 2 more races this year, a 50 mile sat. and a 20 mile next sat. Then one show the sat. after that. Then the bikes are coming out. I have to switch motors in one, part one out, the s1 needs some small things, and there's always something new to do on the xb and blast
