Reep, +1 on all that- my '81 TS125 got tore down a few times, of course I went with Boyesen reeds with a re-jet... I went about doing everything I could think of to soup-up and café that bike!

Had a red/white RZ350 for a while too, bored .40 over with Spec II pipes, Boyesen reeds, a tooth smaller front sprocket, steering dampener, etc.-
that thing was like God's own slingshot, it was SO quick! I miss that bike BAAAD.

I also followed the stories on Bimota's try at a direct injected, emissions OK 2-stroke, was severely disappointed that they failed at that. IIRC Honda did something similar, maybe for a Dakar rally bike...

End of thread highjack... let's get energized about E-bikes!

"José is here! Tell us more José; did you ever miss having a clutch or gearbox?

I feel like I would really miss those features."

The main gotcha is if I go ride the bikes back to back on the same day I find myself reaching for the clutch on the Zero. Otherwise, you would be surprised how fast you forget about this.

I don't miss shifting at all but you do wonder where you are in the 'sweet spot'

If I ride the 1125CR after the Uly I ride it under 4k then the bike lets me know to keep the revs up. When I ride the Uly after the 1125 I find myself revving it at 5-6k and the bike lets me know to keep the revs down a bit.

On the Zero you just worry about how fast you want to go and where the cops/speed cameras are.

For certain people, say commuters or city dwellers an e-bike could certainly be an only bike. For everyone else it is a second or third bike.

On the range anxiety issue, most people over estimate how many miles they ride per day, if they really looked into it they would find current e-bikes would work for most of the riding that they do per day, especially if they can charge at work.

For those who want a transmission, Brammo and others do sell e-bikes with transmissions.

Someone mentioned that the Livewire was slow. It is not, I had a chance to ride it in "Power" mode and found it to be plenty fast, It feels slightly slower than the SR. I believe the quoted 0-60 is 4 seconds, which is plenty fast.

From my short ride on it felt like a production bike, not a prototype, like an electric M2 Cyclone with better components and suspension than my Zero.

I'm guessing that if you had to pay that $5500 up front yourself, you would likely see the math differently.
I did have to put the $5500 up front and wait 90 days for the rebates. The math made no difference - right now Wells Fargo Bank is offering 0.05% on savings accounts. That's a whopping $2.75 a year on $5500! I guess I could have locked it up in a CD that pays 1%.
You have every right to be angry with the govt agencies who dream this crap up. I'm sure that I'm not the demographic they intended this program for. I am favorably impressed with the car's performance and will likely buy an electric motorcycle because of it.

Thanks José. That's good to know.

How much motor braking is there if any?

You can dial the amount of engine braking via the phone app.

I use 0% off the throttle so I can coast to a stop.

I use 100% of available engine braking on the brakes to improve braking performance.

It's not 100% as in it locks up the rear wheel. It's the maximum engine braking available.

Thats a cool combo to be able to dial in. It starts to open your eyes to areas where an electric bike could be better.

I'm sure that I'm not the demographic they intended this program for.

Well that would explain the math not mattering. For those who the math would matter would likely rethink their decision.

Looks like it would be a nice campus bike. A nice alternative to a moped.

Dang! I'm trying to sell my used Klein Mantra Comp for a little more than that!

I'll keep my eye on that bike, thanks for the catch!

"When my wife questions my need for more than one motorcycle, I tell her that there's a reason that the PGA allows 14 clubs in a golf bag and I may need yet another bike."

I am surely stealing this line. I just need more room.

I had a chance to ride the Brammo Empulse and 2 of the Zero models a couple of years ago and felt that the Brammo handled better, but the Zero SR (I think) was a better overall ride.

For me an electric motorcycle would make perfect sense since right now I ride my S3T to work where it sits for 8 hours, then I ride it home. I would have no problems being allowed to park in the warehouse and plug it in while I work.

For me it is still a matter of cost. Plus I like the ability to race down Bear Creek at 60 (not that I ever speed or anything) and pull through corners with some exit speed. I did not get that feeling when I rode the Zero bike during the tour that was organized a couple of years ago.
