I would have expected this, I wonder if other states are balking. Seems that the heads of the DMV here don't believe that the Slingshot is a motorcycle. They did offer the option for Polaris to petition the state to create a new classification. This could reduce the need for prohibitive mods if an agreement were to be reached. Makes me wonder, there are dealers in both NY and MA selling these, wonder what happens when one forays across the border?

I wonder if the Morgan 3 Wheeler is still legal then, given their similarities. At least the Morgan has a motorcycle engine.

I read somewhere that Texas wouldn't register them either. Seems that the Slingshot bucket seat set up is more "like" a car than a motorcycle. And the Slingshot doesn't meet the safety standards of a car, so no go.

Two wheels in the front of the vehicle that steer; not a motorcycle in my book.
Two seats side by side; not a motorcycle in my book.

Further, if you can't split lanes on it; it's not a motorcycle in my book.

Talk about a very narrow minded point of view. There are plenty of motorcycles too wide to split lanes on (not counting trikes), and you own one of them. The 06 Ulysses with the accessory Journey luggage is wider than an electraglide and Goldwing, and is not practical for lane splitting.

In VA, they have deemed the Slingshot a "cycle car", and as such doesn't require a motorcycle license. You do, however, need to wear a helmet and eye protection.

That sounds unusually smart of them.
