I like rye if I'm not drinking too much of it, it's great to nurse for an hour or so.

And seriously...aberlour 12. Aged in oak and then sherry casks. Amazing. There's a 16 and an 18 but honestly, the 12 is all you need.

Virginia Gentleman is the cheap Bourbon of choice for anyone having spent any amount of time in Charlottesville.
I also like Old Weller.

I just got a very nice bottle of Yellow Spot Irish single pot still whisky as a gift. Very nice - brought over from across the pond.
Normally, Paddy's Irish is good stuff.

Otherwise, partial to the Macallan, although any good single malt works for me in the way of Scotch.

With regards to making clear ice cubes, I've heard that you can achieve this by pouring almost-boiling water into your ice tray, and then immediately putting it in the freezer.

Can anyone confirm this?

Everyone has different taste in whiskeys and Bourbons. But by far one of the best is Bookers. One of the few thats aged and unfiltered and bottled straight from the barrel.

I'd agree with that, but with ~20% more alcohol than most other whisky's, a person better pay attention. I've only tried one bottle, but it didn't matter how I drank it, two cubes, no cubes, water, you know your drinking with a glass of that stuff.

Wild Turkey 101 is just behind bulleit in my book. I tried most of the more expensive ones including WT variants and still find that to be one of the best…

I'm not a Turkey 101 fan but I sell it and do ...ok with it. Wild Turkey American Honey is a huge seller though. Very smooth with a hint of honey unlike other varieties that the honey is to prominent.

To you Maple Whiskey lovers try this one. rather expensive considering a pint will run you close to 20 bucks but the Maple is very subtle.

Hoot, the Aberlour is one of my favourites too. Try the Knockando as well. Just a little higher up the river.
I've actually kayaked past both of them when I was young.

Doz try a shot of that in a bottle of hard cider. They set each other off a treat.

Friends are good to have.

Dinner tonight at friends' house in Florida. I said "single malt" and Phyllis' eyes lit up. "I just got this, you should try it".

Bunnahabhain 18, "bun-na-ha-ven". An Islay single, but surprisingly non-peaty. Fruity nose, sea-salty palate with a near-chocolate finish. Gorgeous stuff, will be my next addition to the cabinet : )

My old dad always bought Evan Williams for his daily tipple.I would buy him a bottle of Makers Mark every Christmas and it never failed to put a smile on his face when he had his first taste.I miss those days.

Gotta agree with Hoot and Grumpy, Aberlour 12 is a GREAT single malt. My neighbor buys it by the case, the rest of us neighbors get to help him prepare for the next one... : )

I'll have to try some Aberlour. I keep going back to Glenfiddich, pricey but very good for my taste.

Oh if you like the Glenfiddich & want to keep drinking it, don't try the Aberlour or Knockando, you'll never go back.

Pardon my ignorance, but how is Knockando pronounced? No-can-do? As in, dad, will you take me to the store? Sorry, knockando, I've been drinking scotch?

Pronounced knockandoe but after 3 or 4 it's pronounced ncunder or gishanutherovvem.

Off topic, but related. My favorite drink (right now) is 1 part sweet vermouth, 5 parts gin, and three dashes of orange bitters. You can serve this on the rocks or up. Quite nice.

My winter drink is simple.

Go to the coffee aisle in your grocery store. There's boxes of spiced apple cider packets, like hot chocolate packets. Personally, I like the sugar-free version, not as heavy tasting.

Get a coffee mug.

2 fingers of spiced rum.

Fill with water.

Microwave for 1:25.

Add cider mix.

Stir, drink, repeat as needed : )

Mentioning Fireball, my folks have a bar and grill and they sell that more then anything else and it is usually just taken as a shot.

ACKKK!!!!

Thread highjack, Fireball is NOT whisky!!

Gawd I haaaaate that stuff! Glorified peppermint schnapps- that is all.

Tried a new single-malt scotch at work tonite, Highland Park... dang if it weren't tasty!

I'm not normally a fan of scotch, but I've tasted a few good single malts- I do recommend this one!
