Getting Ready to Travel

I知 planning to do some extensive travelling this summer on a motorcycle. Unlike the old days, when I壇 decide I was going on Monday then head out Tuesday morning, now I知 an old fart and I have to put a bit of thought into how I知 going to do it.
I知 going to need a couple of items that I don稚 have. I知 going to have to get a laptop/notebook to bring along with me so I can keep up with my e-mail, and write these snippets while I知 travelling. I talked with a couple of friends who are Tech savvy while inhaling good BBQ at the Dinosaur (Froggy and Baf are both computer people) and they both suggested I get a Chromebook. I値l take their advice; but I知 not so sure which Chromebook to get. While I want to be cheap, I also want to get one that痴 up to what I want to do. (Surf the Internet, write short essays and possibly download and post pictures. I guess I could go to Best Buy and find out which one the salesman makes the most commission on.
I want to get a cell phone that痴 pretty durable, as well. After doing a bit of research on the internet, I think my best option is a Samsung Rugby. I use Consumer Cellular as my carrier, and I知 pretty sure the Samsung is a compatible GSM phone. I値l investigate a bit more, but it seems to be the best choice.
And I don稚 have a camera (my last one was stolen when my house was broken into a couple of years ago). I admit to liking Canon point & shoots, but I知 not sure which one to get. I致e been looking at the SX 160, but I知 not locked in to that.
I知 open to any suggestions. Please keep in mind that I値l be going on a shoestring, and don稚 have money to burn. I need to be frugal, but not so cheap that it bites me in the ass. I知 going to be living on my motorcycle and camping out in all kinds of weather. I will do my best to keep everything dry and cushioned from vibrations, but it will still be a less than ideal environment for electronics.
I知 really looking forward to this trip, and I hope that I can get everything sorted out before I start. If not, then it will just become a bit more interesting.

Well, I suck at choosing that geek stuff, so I cannot help much there.

If any of your directional choices have you in or around East Tennessee you got a place to stay and a local riding buddy here. When you get into your planning that far shoot me a PM. Ya never know.....I might take a day or so off to ride depending on timing of course.

By all means, give us a holler if you pass thru our "holler"!!! I'm generally off Sundays and Mondays, looking for an excuse to go riding instead of attending to the endless honey-do list...

I just scanned the Aerostitch website, looks like they've got a TON of good books- when I had the paper catalog in my hands, I do remember several books I wanted that dealt with smart travel on two wheels...

Someone else mentioned hanging out at the ADVrider site, good advice- heck, I get a kick out of just looking at the pics posted that cycle through the homepage!

Of course, now that an official March Glitchness date is set, you should try to make that if possible!

And, as I mentioned before- KEEP A JOURNAL. YOU might write the next book I wanna buy on the Aerostitch site!
