I would bring the Uly. We can get my Jeep stuck together and hope the winch works!
Plus the Uly would be easier on gas to tow

Hi Jon! Haven't heard from you for a while, hope all is well. Are you going to make WVBR?

Uly in the Jeep would be a good idea but for a couple of things.....the jeep has a full roll cage and about only four feet of usable bed with the gate down, and it is 46" off the ground. Also, I think a 550 lb load might squat it's long soft lifted springs too much for a long road trip. But I will look at it.

I need to get the Jeep road/trail worthy for the county fair event regardless as to bringing it up there. I have never had to have been wenched out of a spot, it has been tow strap pulled many times, but never wenched.....yet! It has been towed back broken a couple of times. Most of my off road adventures have me getting through mud pits and such to pull the other guys through.

I have a long low trailer that would haul both but it needs new tires and the Jeep would have to have stock rims to fit in the trailer rails, that would mean a bunch of tire changing on that end.

Hey Mark! I have a resolution to the problem. I will just put another trailer together!

I have one with a 16' deck that will haul both the bike and the Jeep. The Jeep only needs 11'of space so the Uly will have plenty of room. Just got to get out the aluminum glue sticks and see what we have by the weekend.

My son-in-law asked me to test their 4x4 rubber rock climbing track last night. My Jeep qualifies for their modified stock truck class. My nephew is running the event and building the track. Those guys run with full on rock climbing monster truggys.

My tires measure over 37" high. The small ones on the ground are 34" high laying on their side. The big tires are 45x65x45 38 ply mofos. When ya get up on top, one of your 37" tires will easily fall into the 45" hole!

The guy with my camera was into video format so he did not get any stills while I was up on the tires. I have not hooked up with Utube yet. Tell ya what.....that is one rough SOB of a track. It took two minutes to get all four of my tires up off the ground. Lots of hopping and bouncing. I wonder if "shake well" is one of the instructions I need to follow before my med scan tomorrow?

I can't be where I want to be so I may as well help these guys. They are going to see if I can run in the competition, I figured I wouldn't because it may be a problem being related and all.

They will be moving these tires into a wild formation for the event track, some of the biggest tires will be standing up and have to be driven over. There will be a lot of blue tire smoke in the air for sure. I will be back with more pictures.

Just got back from the County Fair 4x4 competition. As luck would have it I broke during early afternoon testing. A 7500 series truck steering shaft universal was not tough enough! Dammit! We bandaged it up enough to play later on.

This was a truly tough truck competition. A group of "truggy" buggies made a lot of stuff look easy, except for when they slipped a little or missed a line. Then a stock bodied F150 with a modified 351 and 39" tires showed just how tough the course was.

My youngest son got out there with his jacked up shiny black Silverado, the one that he stuck in the mud last spring. He won the modified stock class only doing about $1500 damage to the drive train. It was awesome!

The left front axle exploded into pieces, then the front differential blew apart with the housing splitting, something inside caused that, then the rear differential, a posi unit, quit working to only one tire spinning. When that happened it made all kinds of snapping and metallic popping noises, to which the rear axle became a welded solid locker! So he stood on the gas and finished the course WFO! Dad was so proud, and the crowd went nuts for the Chevy overcoming a lot of busted parts to beat the Ford!

I did get to literally explode my rear drive shaft off from the rear yoke during a pull off with that Ford F150. It made a great show of sparks and parts flying with a hell of a lot of banging after the initial explosion! At the same time my Jeep got into him enough to destroy his four speed transmission. He beat me as they both were blown apart in seconds.

I will get back tomorrow with pictures and more. I'm kind of worn out at the moment. Here is a preview of the "easy course".....they called it the baby course!

This is the kind of being hung up that broke my steering shaft.

The buggies made the "easy" track actually look easy. The modified stock trucks proved it wasn't easy at all.

I did not get anymore pictures of my son's black Silverado because I was spotting for him and others.

Those big tires are eight feet high.

looking through this thread makes me drool! just had to replace the battery in my '12 JK Rubi (~48k mi), so my tires are put off for another paycheck!

for this round:
• 2" bumpstop extensions front/rear
• 37" x 12.5" Nitto Trail Grapplers on stock wheels
• trim fenders/pinch seams/rock rails
• remove spare tire (gonna run spareless for a while)
• 1.75" Spidertrax wheel spaces
• weld tube steps onto stock Rubi rock rails
• add retracting step for GF on passenger side
• add a washer or two under steering stops
• Superchips tuner

JeepnBueller, $ounds like fun!

Farklin' is farklin'.....Jeep, Buell, Spouse, or what ever!

This is my only picture from the fair event of my Jeep.

It was taken moments after the official handed my rear drive shaft to me. My 20-20 after thought was
"having a pull off against a full size F150 may not have been a good idea!".

If it was any consolation, I drove it out of the arena under it's own power.

Wow Etennuly, those tires are deceptively huge lol! Looking quickly at the pics I thought you were running 33's or 35's because the obstacles are massive and you have a hefty lift on the CJ! Put it into perspective--love your rig. WIll always have a thing for CJs.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), I'm only getting the tires now out of necessity (my 32" stockers are toast after 48k mi) before winter rolls around. The unfortunate part is I won't be wheeling the 37's until I can throw a truss on the front D44, at least. New UCAs (lucky you not having to deal with that!) will also be on before wheelage.

Yeah, the best perspective picture is the one of the F150. It has 8" of lift and those are new 39" Super Swampers. You could easily think they are 33" on a 4" lift compared to the monster tires the track was made of.

The gray buggy and the black buggy both have 44" tires. The green buggy has 54"x20"wide tires. Mine are 38.5"x 16.5".

got 'em.... still waiting on led for marker lights. here are the before and after pics of the fender trim. I used a Dremel rotary cutting tool with "reinforced" abrasive cutting disks. apparently there are specialty plastic cutting discs, but I couldn't find them. these worked great, then I went over them with a 120 grit flap wheel on an angle grinder, then hand file, and finally hand sand. isopropyl alcohol to clean the edges for the automotive adhesive door edge trim. finishes things nice and hides your wobbles in the cut. : )

I was informed that a driveshaft loop will be needed next year. It seems that some fans in the stands found some universal joint parts.

I don't know nothin' about that!

EDIT: resized the pictures!!

If you're going to watch rigs flail about on rocks and huge tires, I think there should be a PPE warning for the crowd instead... driveshaft tube?! That encroaches the clearance envelope, are they crazy? ; )

I took some DSLR poser pics in the "driveway," and I'm not afraid to spam the crap out of it right now : ) Hope you don't mind. Got some 3/4" round LED side markers from Amazon to stay legal. I threw a M.O.R.E. Hide-A-Step on, as well. Expensive for what it is (a spring-loaded, retractable, and easily removable step for offroad clearance along the rock rail), but is useful for the shorter/older passengers.

Your Jeep is looking great!

I want a set of 37" Maxxis Creepy Crawlers....

but my little Dana 30 front and 35 rear would go all "Twisted Sister" on me and scream "We're not gonna take it!"

We've been getting a lot of rain here lately. Time to do some wheelin'! Corvette season will be over mid next month so I can put that to bed for a while.

Time to go out and get stuck in some muck! The ol' CJ7 has not been out on muddy trails in several years. That is what it was intended for, not all of that competition in a ring stuff.

Thanks guys, been a long time plan since high school to have a well-built rig on 35s or 37s ... sheesh, when I was in high school (class '03) 37s were unheard of on daily drivers, unless you were running super swampers.

The D30/35 combo on my '99 TJ held up okay, but I was only running 33 x 10.5" BFG ATs. I always heard 35s on the D35 is about as much as you want to push it, unless you go to a Super 35 kit to replace the shafts and fun parts. That was my "fun" rig ... the first Wrangler (second Jeep, first was an '85 XJ) to make mistakes on and learn how to build up for my wheeling needs correctly.

It's a blast.
