Very nice stuff all . I bought a house in the high desert here in California recently 3 yrs ago, I'm just now in the process of digging out the stereo equipment . I have as far as tube stuff goes a Dynaco (Dynakit) Pas 2 preamp hooked to a Dynaco ST 70 amp, Pioneer pl550 turntable , Technics M228X cassette with DBX pumped into Bose 901 series 3 Speakers. I sold the Bose 901s to get a Harley and getting them replaced is the hold up on putting the system back online. My Daily Driver is a Pioneer SX 950 in the Main room and a Sansui 9090db in the garage , both the Sansui and the Pioneer are worlds above the black plastic crap You can get now but Vinyl sounds richer Thru the Dynaco's for sure

That sub sounds really good - I went with this
http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-spa500-5 00w-subwoofer-plate-amplifier--300-807

and I think the EQ portion has a lot to do with it. It was real easy to get it to sound right with the Maggies.
I've always liked the idea of cylindrical subwoofers and keeping the amplifier separate is a good idea, too, as it's not being rattled to death.

"... and when you die, they can bury you in it !!!"

Good stuff, but looking at these set-ups brought this thought back.

Can any of You give some suggestions for a record cleaner/washer , I did always use Discwasher brush and anti static cleaner every time I spun vinyl but I have pulled out my albums from storage and it seems they have residue from the paper liners, looking to wash and clean them at a reasonable price

Look for a used VPI 16.5 RCM (record cleaning machine) and for the wash I just use 1 gallon distilled water, 1 cup 99% isopropyl alcohol and 4 drops of dishwashing liquid.
I use a VPI 17 which has a dispenser brush for the fluid but the 16.5 will work okay. You'll need some sort of a scrubbing brush for the 16.5.

Anybody tried the wood glue method for cleaning vinyl? I've heard it can work wonders, and I have some old Eagles and Doors albums I got second (or eight) hand and are pretty dirty, but don't seem to scratched. Regular distilled ater and 99% iso alc solution doesn't seems to get into the grooves enough.

Just don't want to hurt my new Shure M44-5 ... I know it's a relatively cheap cartridge, but it was recommended to me as a good one for the Dual 1009.

There's no way I could justify getting an automatic record cleaner, even the simple ones are crazy expensive for what they do, but I guess they do it well.

I should have speaker and tube envy thanks to this thread.

Lucky for me my 42 year old Sansui SP3500 speakers and Pioneer SX-9000 receiver still sound good... to me anyway.
