I *think* it was Matt's auction that this book last saw the light of day. Pammy had a friend who was interested, but I had set a very high reserve and the bid moved on. This time I'm listing it with a $1.00 starting bid and no reserve. Yep, got a bit of a lump in my throat; I've had this book a long, long time, and it means a lot to me. Pammy's friend Lee is interested again, she says, so I'm offering it up here for Glitch and Ann, hoping this book goes to a good home (Lee?  ), for a good price (Lee? ). It's definitely for a good cause. OK, enough Hallmark, let the games begin! Since the TG holiday will surely impact visitation on BWB next Thursday and Friday, I've set a closing date of Monday, 12/01/2014. Yes, at 11 p.m. Eastern. Go Glitch!!!!!!!  Bill Mitchell? Heck, you could probably write a book about the guy! Allan Girdler? One of my favorite internal combustion authors, but usually seen sniffing around motorcycles.  First Edition, because no one ever remembers who came in second. | ||

This book has a TON of writing in it, mostly penned by Mr. Girdler. He's right up there with Peter Egan, Ted Simon and Neil Peart, IMO. That said, I've included mostly photos of photos below; if ya wanna actually read the book, bid on it!  Bill Mitchell and a couple of his creations.   | ||

I didn't do this; doesn't matter who did - it happened, and can't be undone. This is a coffee table book and should be built to open wide and lay flat with ease. Sadly, however, the binding architecture was grossly under-engineered and I believe in the book business they call this a broken back. It's not pretty.    Not as bad at the other end, but still:  | ||

Unfortunate news from Lee: Lee Chapin: Upon digging into my memory banks, I went to my Corvette book collection and low and behold there is the book. My salesman at Mikuni, Phil Bast had seen it and grabbed it on eBay, back in May 2007. Sorry. I tried. | ||

Lake, I've got another first-edition Corvette book in my collection, titled "Corvette: America's Star-Spangled Sports Car." This book was published in 1973 and is near-mint. If you're interested I'll post up some pix. | ||

I currently have an '86 coupe 4+3 that I run in National Council of Corvette Clubs autocross competition. It is my fifth Vette. Must be I like them.....I've only had three Buells.  Drove it to the National Corvette Museum this summer. $Thirty. | ||

Vern, thanks for your bid! At one time in my life, four or five lifetimes ago, I had TWO Corvettes parked in my driveway, a '69 350/350 4-speed Roadster with factory side-exhaust and both tops, and a '72 LT-1 350/? 4-speed Roadster, also with both tops. The '69 was a truck - manual steering and manual brakes! - but dang, it was a fast truck. The side exhaust dumped the noise about two feet from your ear, and that bad boy would absolutely make a ruckus on the boil. The '72 was an LT-1, solid lifters, balanced and 'printed from the factory. There has never been a finer small-block Chevy motor made. You could drive this thing - no, I don't mean occasionally spin the tach up there and it wouldn't grenade - you could DRIVE this thing at 7 grand. Purred like a big pissed-off kitten up there, and was just absolutely fierce up on the step. Good times, seems like so long ago. | ||

I know that sound! I still have one of the original LT1 350 short blocks and a Muncie 4 speed out of a '71 that I bought totaled back in about 1979. I overhauled and ran that 350 in a dirt track race car for a couple of years until it got tired. It is still standard bore, pink rods, forged crank, 11:1's. I think before I ported the heads, changed the intake and carburetor, it was rated at 375 hp. When I was running that LT1, I fitted it into a dirt track limited late model, an '80 Monte Carlo race car with grass burner headers. They were simply eight pipes that turned straight down. The tune it produced at 7000 was amazing for sure. I got to hear it(and feel it) two times a lap, twenty or more laps at a time WFO! I also had two Vettes at the same time for a couple of years. The great looking red '79 T top with it's always anemic L48, and a then new '94 LT1 300 hp SFI automatic coupe. My first Vette was a blue T top '69. Never got to drive it though. Four speeding tickets in one month by way of my '71 Camaro made insurance impossible for having a Vette while being under 25 years old, so I fixed it up and sold it.
