It's kind of amazing how scandals like the IRS/Lois Lerner scandal just keep on dripping new information. Now the IRS says they wont search for her emails from a variety of sources simply because they say the search will be fruitless. Is that because they will refuse to release anything they find, or because there is some way of knowing the emails don't exist. I'm still having great trouble with the idea that all the backup tapes get written over every six months. I have spent 30+ years in the IT field, started back in the late 70's, and have seen many backup procedures from many companies over the decades. I have NEVER seen such a simple backup scheme where every backup gets overwritten every x months. It just isn't done that way unless you have hired a third grader to design your system. Every scheme I've seen involves a periodic backup that will be kept much longer, possibly permanently. The very idea that our government is this incompetent should be a major scandal in it's own right.

I read that yesterday and was amazed. The idea that the IRS, one of the most trusted of public agencies, has . . .under the current administration . . become "weaponized" and that, even when caught, the agency has the audacity to circle the wagons and protect the wrongdoers is a sign of how the current administration operates. It's also the clarion call to most the country that things you could formerly trust . . . law enforcement and federal agencies . . must now be viewed as potential adversaries. Fair warning. I suspect that the long standing history of the world's largest "voluntary compliance" taxing entity may be at risk as folks adopt the "let them find it" attitude. I confess I'm liking the idea of telling them that all the receipts for my expenses . . .things like camera, lenses and motorcycle gear . . . . were eaten by the dog and I've no intention of looking for them. | ||

I get this but like a bad tv show, "officials - with guns" will show up to get the receipts or "their money", you are not a politician .... I hope that we have the needed hearings but they get some traction and the folks at IRS who broke the law get punished, If they ( the house and senate ) can't straighten this out with the IRS targeting then strip the agency down and adopt a flat tax. The actions of the Whitehouse, IRS, and the DOJ have been scandalous and need to be addressed. It does happen to most who think they are above the law as in one of Shakespeares plays: "et tu Brutus" and Julius Caesar was gone. He was overbearing, corrupt and bad for Rome. Even his closest confidant hated what he had done to Rome. Usually right overcomes might. Be patient folks, it has already started to head in the right direction and we need to keep at it strongly. I fear a lame duck emperor who openly states his intentions to get his way without regard to Congress' "interfering" in his plans. Our Founding Fathers made it difficult for any one to operate as king or emperor. People speak of gridlock as a bad thing. I question whether it is actually bad - when you look at governments with no gridlock and the people who headed those governments. I fear efficient governments. | ||
