Your bike is here:

Better hurry, though... looks like only three will ever be built.

That bike was at the Barber Fest. Lots of work, but not a rider.

That is one big heaping pile-o-ugly.
Looks like a saddle had its way with a Model-T.

I like aspects of it. The swooping fender brackets & headlight/gauge are nifty. My buddy loves the saddle.

Overall not so much, but eye candy in the detail.

Check out Bienville's "Mongolia".

Eye candy. And it would even look good stripped of most of the cast art details.

if I were buying an expensive, quirky bike, it'd be this one:

...and there's only one thing appealing about steam punk styling...

Nice visual, but what could the bike possibly do better than any liter sport bike of today?

"Do better"?
It's art.

Thanks for the Steampunk ladies. Lovely costumes too.

When my buddy finishes the next phase in his Yamaha XS1100 build I'll post pictures. He started with a cheap barn rust bucket and has gone wild with skeleton hand mirrors, etc. In a skull theme. Now he's going to spend the winter making it a solo seat bike. Plans new fenders with the armor articulation look, rolled & roped edges, brass rivets and polished stainless lames.

Will it function better than it did? Yes, he started with a pos and it now stops and steers like it should. The extra mass of the fancy mirrors and fenders detracts from performance, but he's still ahead of the game compared to most silly choppers.

Machine or CNC machined art?

Some bits machined, some lost wax cast, some carefully bent.

Like the "Easy Rider" replica that sold for over a million $$, it's a thing to look at. It may not be a bad runner. I've never tried a Hellcat.

But like it or not, a lot of thought and effort went into it, and definitely Art, not performance, drove the creator.

Like I said, I like some of the detail, but overall it doesn't excite me that much. The Magnolia Special from Bienville's shop otoh is gorgeous!

It too is full of little bits to contemplate and admire. But unlike the Hellcat Steampunk, it could lose all most all the artsy cast parts and still be a work of art. Keep the grill ornament, door handles, ( look at them!!) And the trunk lid rack.

Taste is taste. I like the bike posted by Rick-a too. What is that?

That's the Vyrus. It started out as the Bimota TESI, but when Bimota faced bankruptcy (one of MANY times) several years ago, the designers of the TESI created their own company to continue selling the bike.

Bimota (of course) came back from bankruptcy and still makes the TESI. It's essentially the same bike but with different badging. One of the first bikes made with a swingarm front end. Unlike Parker's RADD design that used a simple steerer-tube to steer the front wheel, the Bimota design uses a series of linkages.

Expect to sink $65,000 into a new one.

Nice.

Hypothesis:
Art comes from the mind. CNC or hand file, paint or titanium. The method and the medium are used to create.

I'll grant that craftsmanship itself is an art.

And that demonstrating skill in using a difficult medium is an art.

Or would you say that the skill & medium are artistic tools?

That's the Honda NM4 (as it's known in the United States, the "Vultus" everywhere else). It's not THAT expensive. Consider it the evolution of the DN01 (which, I understand, the dealers said was short for "Do Not 0rder 1").

better than this

Personally, I'd ride either one...

The C650GT is far more practical than that Manga monstrosity from Honda. More storage, better weather protection, more comfortable.

We saw that thing in real life at Indianapolis this year and it is just flat out HIDEOUS. Honda discontinued the Silverwing for THAT??
