Elon Musk: ‘With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon.’

I tend to agree

All hail our computer overlords.

Musk is no dummy.

When the Pentagon announced the first drones with autonomous targeting systems went into service this year I was reminded of 2 things.

Tom Clancy talking about how you would tell a drone to go find and kill someone who met x parameters in a certain area. ( just being in the kill box may be enough )
And.

When was the last time in a movie that building the unstoppable killing machine was a good idea?

Age of Ultron opens in May 2015.

Just saying.......

There was a great line in the movie "Stealth". The hero complains to his boss, the CAG, that machines can't feel blah blah soul blah.... ( he was told to work with a robot fighter plane. And of course, it could fly better than him, not having issues with g forces )

The CAG responded to the effect he didn't want to send letters to parents that their son had to die because his ego was hurt by letting machines die instead.

Not a great movie even with Jessica Biel in a bikini. But it did have one good line.

I do highly recommend reading "The Machine Stops" for an early take on man's dependence on artificial environments. ( free on the web .... go find it )

After my trip to Subway for lunch I think Musk is Correct. It was 74 in the store and not one Employee had a I.Q. over the room temp. 3 tries to get the BMT special right!

I disagree.

With the continual dumbing-down of society, artificial intelligence seems more and more invincible as WE get farther and farther removed from intelligent thought. Down and down and round and round the swirling toilet bowl of intelligent thought.

If you read Revelations 13, this is only speculation, but it seems like AI would be an explanation for erecting an image, and giving it the breath of life. There have been a lot of theories related to such.

That could be way off, however, so don't take that for gospel.

I think one of the underlying reasons for the development of AI is to achieve artificial immortality. This talk of mapping the human genome, and being able to transpose your consciousness into a machine or man made organism. This would,in some ways, transcend the gap between science and religion.

food for thought.

I don't know if I'd consider it as summoning a demon (conjuring). May be I look at the words too literally. I prefer to think of it as; A man building a jail cell in a location isolated from people. Then one day he steps into the cell and closes the door. It locks. Did he just fall prey to his creativity? Does he have a key in his pocket? Is there a secret out? Can he out-smart his self?

Revelation 13:15 KJV
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

First time I ever read that, I could see the image of Max Headroom on the tv screen. I kind of chuckled. Then I read and read and read chapter 13 over and over. I'll just pose some questions; Could the image of the beast be a false religion, an entire "church"? Who was pope Sextus the Third? Does he fit into the 18th verse? Could the mark in the 16th verse be made of ash? Yes answers to three of the questions could explain the 17th verse having taken place during Sextus III's reign (432-440). Just more food for thought, not any claimed gospel from me.

Slaughter I agree smart phones are allowing people to be lazy thinkers. They also foster a lack of responsibility Oh I ll just call and ask some one else.
The BORG of The next Gen come to mind.
Plugged in but totally dependent on the collective community.

Prophecy is really worth its own thread, if there's enough interest. Ourdee, I agree that the visions John had were of symbols which represented greater things. The beasts are likely large people-groups, deceived by some devil's lie.

While a beast could be some facet of catholicism, I've never had an ashen cross on my hand or head, and I can still purchase and sell things. The catholic church has a history of somehow adapting to modern society while retaining ancient rites. It is possible that she is the Jezebel of Rev ch 2. She has seemingly always had occult vains, yet I also know that she produces God-fearing Christians who are born again by faith in Jesus.

The more I learn about the end-times, the more it seems that a massive government is the first beast, which would seemingly be some form of misguided theocracy. This would almost require some breakthrough in technology, yielding technocracy, where there is no separation between government, science, religion, economy. AI fits nicely into that model. Again, AI would fit nicely into giving life and breath to the image of the beast - which could be an automated army of drones or similar.

Or we could have Dr. Strangelove and the Russians with AI reacting to inputs from satelites.

The Man Who Sold The World (1970)

David Bowie

"Saviour Machine"

President Joe once had a dream
The world held his hand, gave their pledge

So he told them his scheme for a Saviour Machine

They called it the Prayer, its answer was law
Its logic stopped war, gave them food

How they adored till it cried in its boredom

'Please don't believe in me,
please disagree with me,
life is too easy,
a plague seems quite feasible now,
or maybe a war,
or I may kill you all

Don't let me stay, don't let me stay
My logic says burn so send me away

Your minds are too green, I despise all I've seen

You can't stake your lives on a Saviour Machine

I need you flying,
and I'll show that dying
is living beyond reason,
sacred dimension of time

I perceive every sign, I can steal every mind

Don't let me stay, don't let me stay
My logic says burn so send me away

Your minds are too green, I despise all I've seen

You can't stake your lives on a Saviour Machine

The beginning of the end:

Quantum processors are just a matter of time.

The real threat is the collection of data on us, I believe.

The collection of data on us is double plus good, and will only be used by the Ministry of Plenty, and the Ministry of Peace to improve our lives.
