These people are uneducated for the most part , they love God and want to do as their leaders tell them.
They go to church and are told what to do there.
This has the potential to be a good thing.

The trouble is religion is divided, even Islam. Uneducated people being manipulated by leaders of dubious account.

How many so called Christian religions are there? One for every country, each with it's own variation; and how many wars have been fought amongst Christian countries?

Religion and the stupidity of it is to blame.

Tell me Santa and all the other bullshit crap people are duped into believing is real.

My point is and always has been that these f**kers exist as a product of and in part the meddling of the West in their lands. That's my point. And believe you me, America is complicit in this shit more so than any other nation on the planet. Yes, complicit. Do you get it?

( Here I have deleted My reply....a clear violation of site rules about insults and profanity.... snide comment on lack of actual parents implying insultee is vat grown in lab and raised by badgers )

That out of the way... Bull.

If you want to state that the many conflicts over TERRITORY in the region are because of mostly European meddling and laying out arbitrary borders with zero respect for tradition and tribal lands, then yes. see "Churchill's Sneeze" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston's_Hiccup

England and France after WW1 divided up the lands they had occupied and conquered after the fall of the Ottoman Empire to reward their friends. Did the same thing after WW2. More than once.

But the problem isn't who owns which piece of land, it's who rules the world. Period.

Now on the Ukraine side of things, As I have said, I'm ready to believe you can blame quite a lot of it on George Soros, ( who screwed England & Russia before, and is now screwing the US ) and Just Joe Biden's son getting rich, and there is certainly an argument that the Evil Western Colonial Oppressors have pushed the Russian's by expanding up to their border with their formerly conquered slave states.

NATO’s Eastward Expansion: Did the West Break Its Promise to Moscow?

By Uwe Klußmann, Matthias Schepp and Klaus Wiegrefe

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has accused the West of breaking promises made after the fall of the Iron Curtain, saying that NATO’s expansion into Eastern Europe violated commitments made during the negotiations over German reunification. Newly discovered documents from Western archives support the Russian position.

ISIS is a slave state, and their stated goal is total world domination, submission to the will of Allah as decreed by The Prophet, and the return of the planet to the dark ages.

We won't get into China and a horrific threat that generations of forced birth control has created. A billion odd young men with no chance of getting laid without leaving home or conquering the surrounding lands. Wait till that gets going.

Alfau...

The trouble is religion is divided, even Islam. Uneducated people being manipulated by leaders of dubious account.

I don't see different faiths as a problem. Some do. "radical Islam" ( aka the way the Book tells you to live ) is intolerant of other faiths including microscopic disagreement on details of worship.

Educated people get manipulated too... but you are correct that it is now and has always been a small number of evil men that manipulate others for power and wealth.

How many so called Christian religions are there? One for every country, each with it's own variation; and how many wars have been fought amongst Christian countries?

there may be more variations on Christianity than there are nations. With the notable exception of England which made it's own church so Henry could get a divorce, it's not a Church for each Country, it's a Church for each discontented group, who didn't like the old Church. And... a Butt load of wars. In fact, by definition every war fought in Europe for a thousand years has been between "Christian countries".

So what? It's been a few years since those darn Christians burned Witches at the Stake, not a real long time, I admit, but seldom in my lifetime in the US. In the last Century the Melting pot in the US has led to pretty decent religious tolerance.. not perfect, but better than the other 14 thousand odd years. ( number of years Man has had Religions is of course subject to argument.

Religion and the stupidity of it is to blame.

Granted.

Tell me Santa and all the other bullshit crap people are duped into believing is real.

Now you are just being mean.

Columbus discovered America, commissioned by the church.....

Actually Chris sucked up to the Queen of Spain for backing, the Conquistadors had Church backing, but Columbus was a private effort.

And NO Church commissioned Columbus to find the new world, that was pure luck. He was looking for the shortcut to India & that region. His calculations were wrong, and the established science from the days of the Greeks was right.

If the Americas hadn't been there he would have run out of supplies and died.

Muslims have a hope and want to please God and inherit the earth as a reward, I think .

Nope, completely wrong. Nearly 180 degrees out of phase with reality.

Muslims are to live in Submission to God. ( that's what Islam MEANS ) And have orders to conquer the world. They hope to go to heaven, and Muslim heaven is pretty much as you'd expect one designed by adolescent boys and horny old men. ( not really knocking it, My Faith's Heaven is no more rational, I just like it better, it has beer )

You might want to read the manual on Islam.

I am happy to grow old and die knowing I have no answer. me too, but the search for it is entertaining and occasionally enlightening.

It was thought the world was flat and that you could actually sail off the edge into the abyss..
But the love of God and willingness to obey the church impelled him to sail off..lol

Nope. It was well known from Greek time the planet was a ball, and the size had been fairly accurately figured out over 2000 years before Columbus.

Willingness to Obey the Church had NOTHING to do with Columbus's expedition, he wanted to get RICH!!!!

To be fair, to this day some ignorant fools think the world is flat..

A well-known scientist (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the center of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, "What is the tortoise standing on?" "You're very clever, young man, very clever," said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!"

You can bang on as much as you like about Churchill, the Ottoman Empire, and as much history bollocks as you care to tell the world you love the study of but it won't change the facts of today. What we have today is a product of events far more recent.

You speak of ISIS like they've been around since the dawn of time. They're not but a year in existence. What they are is a ragtag bunch of people recently brought together by opportunity from recent conflict. Their intention to fight back the Western interferers who've stirred up a hornets nest. No guessing who poked the biggest stick eh.

It's a nonsense your historical baloney. It might serve to satisfy the justification you require. It doesn't wash with me I'm afraid.

You mean like the rebel Syrian's whom Obama and congress have just yesterday agreed a half a billion dollar budget for to train them up.

Yep I can really see this working well. Muslim on muslim, Islam fights Islam.

The Free Syrian Army is moderate, secular and backed by the United States with weapons and training. The FSA has been described as a proxy of the United States. In recent months these weapons have included advanced American made BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missiles. The FSA is in stark contrast with groups such as Jabhat al-Nusra which have been designated as terrorist by several Western countries; this has led to a rift between the secular forces fighting the Syrian government and al-Qaeda linked groups such as al-Nusra and ISIS, often resulting in deaths. The FSA maintains good relations with moderate Islamist factions such as the Islamic Front.

Yeah it'll work out just fine

The main target of the United States right now is ISIS, but for the mainstream rebel groups, getting rid of Mr. Assad is the main goal.

Assad is backed by Russia.

What we have today is a product of events far more recent.

8th century?

ISIS isn't calling for the removal of Colonialist forces from the area, they are calling for the conquest of planet Earth.

Since you freely admit you know zero about the subject, may I suggest reading the manual. I bet you can borrow a copy.

In fact, if you find a copy of the Sir Richard Burton ( not the fellow who marries Liz Taylor ) translation of the Koran I would like to buy it. I had a copy but loaned it out....apparently forever.

So if you find one in a used book store, please let me know. I'd go up to 50 Euros... maybe a bit more.

The Burton translation has a very good gloss that tells you what battles and massacres each chapter was written about and between. Really helps to make sense of what's going on. I don't remember if he had a list of verses in date order, but that is available online.

He also translated the "Thousand and One Nights" and the "Kama Sutra", so as English heroes goes he should be high on the list.

To repeat, please RTFM.

The people running ISIS are the same people that fought the US when we went to free Iraq, the same people who murdered Sadat, the same people who ran the streets of Cairo raping women for fun and intimidation. ( until the Military had a little coup to get their boss out of power )

ISIS is Not a new group a year old, this is just a branch with a new name for PR purposes. The old company went bankrupt and a few of the executives were killed, but the same folk are in charge and the mission is pretty much the same...

ISIS is NOT murdering and raping their way across the middle east to make the evil colonialists leave.... Obama already left.

The idiot.

RTFM.

BTW, your take on the "free Syrian Army" is probably spot on.

Obama is either a complete idiot, or an evil prick who wants to start a war with Russia and impose the Caliphate on the planet in the name of the Prophet he denies worshiping...

Supporting ANY resistance movement in Syria is insane at this point.

IF we had been smart and backed up the secular rebels, and got Russia to agree to help, in exchange for permanent basing rights.... OVER A YEAR AGO......Then we had a shot.

Today the only way to deal with the Syrian front on the Caliphate War is to kiss and make up with Vladimir, and let & aid the Russians in slaughtering ISIS and the rebels in total. ( which, of course means Obama will have allied with then betrayed another group of people. ) This leaves Assad and his clan in power.

Obama could just ask Vladimir to promise to encourage free elections after the crisis period, and use that as a fig leaf to cover his treachery.

Obama will also have to publicly concede Eastern Ukraine to New Russia, and Vlad will have to delay any fresh offensives for a few weeks so Obama can save face for authorizing the murder of people he now claims to be friends with.

Vladimir may even go for it. He gets a better hold on his puppet/buddy Assad, US concession on his Syrian Base, and his active involvement gives him an edge in Turkey.

Win win for everyone except the Syrian People and anyone who ever believed Barack Obama.

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/09/18/what-does-ker ry-call-isis-the-enemy-of-islam/

ep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) said he thought “many” people were “shocked” when Obama “emphasized that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant was in fact not Islamic.”

“They now simply refer to themselves as the Islamic State. You know, they don’t call themselves the Methodist State or the Episcopalian State or the Baptist State. They’re the Islamic State, and I think for good reason,” Chabot said.

“You know, when Christians, for example, are told to convert to Islam or die, that would seem to fly in the face of the president’s insistence that the Islamic State is not the Islamic State. And an indication that he may not fully accept that radical Islam is indeed something that does exist and in fact is growing.”

Does it matter if Obama is an idiot ( he's not ) or evil if the results are the same?

I don't think so. Since there is no way he can be brought to trial for his crimes, it's not relevant at all which he is.

http://www.jerrypournelle.com/chaosmanor/some-prin ciples-of-a-middle-east-strategy/

The President famously announced last month that he did not have a strategy with regard to the organization that calls itself The Islamic State, is called regionally in Arabic Daash or Daesh (pronounced dahhsh”), and called by many “The Caliphate”. It is not clear that he has one now.

I was preparing this essay when the President decided to act and launched a vigorous onslaught of air raids on ISIS held territory, mostly in Syria. What he plans next is not clear.

I will discuss the current actions, but first the basics.

For well over a thousand years various Islamic factions have tried to establish a unified state which will be the secular ruler over all Islamic faithful. It will be ruled by the Caliph, the true steward of Muhammad, and in theory a true Caliph would be both General and High Priest.

When Muhammed died, many expected that Ali, his son in law and the first adult male convert to Islam, would become his successor. Instead the community of the faithful chose his father in law, Abu Bakr, as steward. Abu, on his death bed, chose yet another of Muhammed’s companions as Caliph. The fourth Caliph was Ali, Muhammed’s son in law, and the fifth was Husan, grandson of the prophet. Husan was opposed, rebellion and civil war broke out, and gave up the Caliphate. There has not been a universally recognized Caliph since. Husan died in 670 AD.

Within the two great factions of Islam there are many divisions. Some, like the Aliwites of Syria, claim to be the only true Muslims. Others, in particular the Druze, call themselves Unitarians and do not claim to be Muslims, although many Muslims, both Sunni (who accept the various successors to Husan as legitimate Caliphs) and Shia (who wait impatiently for the return of the true Caliph from the House of Muhammed) regard the Druze as an heretical sect of Islam. The Israelis often hire them as security guards, and Druze citizens of Israel are considered reliable. In Lebanon Druze are an important faction and have worked in cooperative governments there.

The Kurds are mostly Sunni, although it is widely said by other Sunni that “Kurds are Mohammedans compared to Infidels.” Kurds are not Arabs, being more closely related to the non-Arab Persians. Persians are Shiites. Persia and Iraq were conquered before 700 AD, by Arabs loyal to the early Caliphates before the Sunni/Shiite division solidified.

........

Perhaps that’s enough. It would take many pages just to list the potential factions, and outline their relations with each other, and it would be pointless because that changes from time to time.

The Middle East has enjoyed the joys of diversity for over a thousand years, and the result is that there are no stable republics or democracies there.

http://www.strategypage.com/qnd/israel/articles/20 140929.aspx

The Saudis called on the West to do more because ISIL will eventually turn its attention to making terror attacks in the West. The Saudis do not mention that they are higher on the ISIL hit list than the West, Israel or Turkey and that the most effective force against Islamic terrorism in the region (Israel) is not being called on to help against ISIL. Israel does not complain, since ISIL is not as much of an effective threat to Israel as it is to Moslem states in the region. Meanwhile Israel and several Arab states continue to quietly exchange data on Islamic terrorist operations. This has been going on for years and seems immune to all the anti-Israel rhetoric in Arab nations.

And, from a letter on Pournelle's site ( link above )

Dear Jerry,

It’s not so clear in the present case. What does the Caliphate have that we want, and is bombing seemingly random targets in Iraq and Syria likely to achieve it?

And yet they do have something we want, and which used to be ours: large parts of Iraq with oil wells. They manage about six million dollars a day in profits from the oil they have seized. Moreover, many of those oil fields are claimed by the Kurds, who are, at the moment, the most reliable allies we have in that region. Which ought to suggest a strategy.

The Caliphate also "has" a land passage from the stranded natural gas fields of the Arabian/Persian Gulf leading to the gas pipelines in Turkey that flow onward into southern Europe.

This list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_ natural_gas_proven_reserves shows the immense potential natural gas competition for Putin’s Gazprom that is already proven to exist in the Middle East. Were any of several proposed pipelines to Turkey to be completed then Gazprom would lose its monopoly pricing power in southeastern and central Europe.

Keeping this entire region in a state of incipient war is therefore a clear strategic imperative for Vladimir Putin given his extreme dependence on high export prices for hydrocarbons. "Syria" can therefore be added to the list of "frozen conflicts" this ex-KGB thug turned international war criminal has been trying to manipulate. A similar motivation exists for Putin’s regular diplomatic interventions in Iranian affairs.

The converse is true for NATO, the EU and numerous Arabian/Persian Gulf states. The surest way to defeat Vladimir Putin and his cabal is to open up large new natural gas supply sources to Europe.

Stabilizing a land route for natural gas pipelines appears to require ground forces. The USA is the only candidate supplier of sufficient force. Meanwhile ISIS is proving to be a useful geopolitical magnet for US ground troops judging from many peoples’ statements. Exactly who has fomented ISIS and why is a fascinating question when considered from a cui bono viewpoint.

Best Wishes,

Anonymous

September 19, 2014: Thanks to continued Russian logistical (spare parts) and technical (maintenance technicians and experts) help the Syrian Air Force continues to send up warplanes and armed helicopters every day to hit rebel targets. Currently the air force is concentrating on ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant). The Assad forces are not bothered by civilian casualties, so the ISIL custom of using local women and children as human shields does not work in Syria. In any event the Assads want to kill pro-rebel civilians both to lessen their resolve and persuade some of them to leave the country. The fighting that began in 2011 has now killed about 200,000 in Syria and forced over 20 percent of the population (most of them rebel supporters) from the country. The Assads have encouraged this flight with attacks on pro-rebel civilians and leaving open escape routes to the borders.

Enough for tonight. I highly recommend reading the bulk of the top link page.
