Last week, I ordered a couple of pocket T-shirts form Danner (the boot company). They were on sale for $10.00 each. One has a map of Oregon on the pocket and the other had a picture of a tree stump showing the rings. Well, today I got the following e-mail:

Dear John,

We are very sorry, but due to an inventory error during our Labor Day sale we were unable to fulfill your order for Danner Stump Pocket Tee. Unfortunately, the item was an end of season closeout and will no longer be available.

We apologize and aim to serve you better next time you shop. We have supplied you with a coupon code below, good for 60% off any single item on our website.

Please note that we did not charge your card for this item, and if you see any pending charges on your card, they should drop off within the next three business days.

I just got off the phone with their Customer Service Dept and I was informed that, yes; I could order a $220.00 pair of Striker Side Zip Boots and get 60% off. That's one hell of a way to keep customers happy. I was buying a ten dollar shirt, and because of an inventory mistake, they're willing to take a 132 dollar hit on a pair of boots. Of course, I'm going to buy a pair - how could I not?
I haven't seen this kind of Customer Service since I sent Bill Bailey a copy of my Maintenance Logs for my S3-T. I do have to admit that Buell exceeded what Danner is doing, but it's a very similar reaction.
I'm very impressed.

That is awesome! It is service like that which makes us customers for life.

what did Bill Baily/Buell do?

maybe you are just one of those guys that gets lucky? Or at least knows when to be nice to folks who are doing customer service - which gives them the excuse to go above the norm in return. More flies with sugar concept.

Nothing like yelling at the people who are trying to help you. Gate agents when traveling, tech support phone folks, etc. - it usually does no help and only adds delay to them sorting you out...

what did Bill Bailey/Buell do?

It's a long story from 2000, and I kind of promised I wouldn't talk about it; but I will say that it impressed me enough that I had a Buell Pegasus Tattood on my left arm three years later at Homecoming 2003, and it inspired me to find ways to enhance the Buell owning experience for others.

Well; Danner's plot to sell boots at a loss is a success. I just ordered a pair of $230.00 boots for $92.00. Considering that I've been looking at Danner Strikers for a while now, but wouldn't pull the trigger 'cause they were too pricey for my impoverished condition, I'm pretty happy with the price. I'm going to keep them as a dedicated pair of riding boots, and not wear them for work boots, or for general knocking around boots like I've done with all my other boots. Maybe. Or somethin'...

I ordered a pair of boots in that sale as well. They are the imported ones, but I have several pairs of made in the USA Danner boots as well. I was impressed with them when they re-crafted my 4 year old work boots, quick efficient communication. Worth getting in their email list for sale on overstock and seconds. New hunting boots are on the radar, pricy but hopefully worth it.

SI33py- I gotta say, when a company shows excellent tact and practice in dealing with one customer's issues and allows that one customer a deep discount, you want a "hookup"?

Fail. No class- rethink your position there buddy.

Good on Danner. I had a pair of the Striker side-zips, and they felt like I'd been wearing them for years when I first put them on. Keep an eye on the sole cracking. They may have that problem figured out by now though.

I just got my boots. They're really nice, and very much worth what they cost. They do feel broken in already. I know I stated that I was going to save them for dedicated Riding Boots, but I really want to just go for a walk to break them in; if you know what I mean.
I'm very happy. Good Customer Service does that to me. Guess where my next pair of boots will be coming from?
