Didn't think cougars were supposed to be in Michigan. This picture was taken in the Northwestern lower peninsula, near Maple City to be more precise.  A slightly closer view...  Sorry if you were expecting something else. Get your mind out of the gutter.  | ||

I've seen bob cat's there before. The color and lack of spots doesn't look right. I've never seen one close to that big before either. I was wondering about the tail though. It could be tucked or swung to the side out of view though. | ||

Definitely not a cougar. It does look a lot like a big bobcat. The cheek tufts give it away. Out here in the northeast they can be a more solid tawny color like that, with more spotting/striping underneath. The resolution on the photo is not good, so any markings are likely indistinguishable anyway. | ||

OK, a cougar story: On my way to the homecoming this year and sitting at an intersection a beautiful S2 passes with a long blond ponytail flowing out from behind the helmet. I'm thinking, how much better does it get? Shadow the rider for a number of miles and then noticed a slight sense of hesitation on direction at an intersection stop sign; my chance to pull up and offer help. The shield goes up and all these white whiskers totally blew the image I was building. | ||

Nov 2008 I was called into work late - we had a 1200 amp busway go poof and had to replace it. I drove up onto the north lot ( along US Hiway 60 ) to look around with my spotlight, because I had seen two bucks the night before. I saw a golden cougar/mt lion walk for about 50 feet along some equipment we had stored outside At first I thought it was a Pit Bull but the tail was too thick. When the head turned and I saw the short snout I new it was a big big cat | ||

There's no reason for there not to be cougars in Wisconsin or Michigan. we have had a couple confirmed in Iowa in the last couple years. | ||

Not surprised there's Cougars in Michigan, they made them in Dearborn from 67-73 based on the Mustang platform & at Flat Rock from 99-02 which basically a rebadged Ford Probe. Hope this clears things up for you all.  |
