My dad gave me a few tips about marriage. I thought I knew it all at the time but remember most of it.
#1. Sew your oats. Have fun and get it out of your system. Party time is over after marriage.
#2. Fulfill your dreams wants, and desires before marriage. After marriage any selfish or personal persuit will be much more difficult.
#3. Take your time to find your soul mate. Take things as they come. If it's meant to be she'll be your best friend and partner. Have no expectations and the relationship will blossom on its own if it's meant to be. If it's truly love that person makes you want to be a better person but won't force you to change.
#4. Put yourself first. If you want to stay happy, put yourself first. Your wife and family come next. It's okay to put others first at times, but putting yourself self low on the priority list as a matter of course eventually leads to misery.
That's it as best as I can remember. I suppose it's not perfect advice but what is.

I have to disagree with Rick on #4.
The wife comes first. Everything I do is for her, and I have never been happier. |

Hey, it's not my advice! My dad didn't follow #4 himself. He about worked himself to death and gave up everything he enjoyed. Perhaps it was just wishful thinking or hindsight.
I put some emphasis on the kid. The wife can take care of herself. We're both self sufficient people that compliment each other. |
