First let me say a big thank you to Ron, Bill and Mike from EBR.

I had to do some sweet talk'n but fixing the EBR team pit bike a couple of years ago came back to me in spades.
They had picked up a nail and I had a plug kit, easy peasy and I would have done it for anyone.

Mike (Coolice) introduced me to Bill and Ron and put in a good word for me.

I let them know I was "working" this weekend as a fan track lap escort and that a RX or SX would do a much better job than my DR650. That was that. Sunday I would ride the RX for 2 laps with the fans and 1 sweep lap to make sure the track was clear.

This was all set up on Saturday.... I was HAPPY to say the least (play Pharrell song here)

Then the rain came... racing was canceled after a bunch of riders went off in the "Ss". All the racing would be held on Sunday and the fan track lap was canceled.

Saying I was bummed is putting it lightly.
I debated staying home Sunday and getting some honey do done but I got up and headed to the track to watch the races and cheer on the EBR bikes. I stopped at the EBR display and they had a ton of people looking at the bikes and asking questions. I thought I would lend a hand and pass out some stickers, t-shirts and answer some questions. A new practice session started and the crowd thinned out a little... I asked if maybe, please could I take one for a demo ride. I was told they had very little to no gas in them.... I said I would be happy to fill the bike up if need be.... The paperwork came out, my license was checked for a motorcycle endorsement, a quick class was given and I was on my way.

The RX was up first. I got a lot of looks and finger pointing as I headed away from the track to the gas station. Put a few dollars of hi-test in the tank and headed west out of Lexington on 97.
97 has a few twisty spots and straights. Just about perfect for a demo ride.
At first I was short shifting at about 7000 rpm. It didn't take long to figure out the super sweet spot was above 8000.
65 MPH in 3rd gear was very comfy for the bike and I felt no buzz in the handgrips.

STOP SIGN

I wanted to find the rev limiter. I had cranked it up a few times to the point I would have thought for sure I would feel the ref limiter kick in. But I hadn't got there yet. I was going to at this stop sign. I rolled on until I felt the rev limiter in first gear.... glanced at the speedo... I think it was damn near 70!! IN FIRST GEAR!! I almost soiled myself. Then I speed shifted to 2nd. The front wheel started heading to the sky. The second soil session was fixing to take place. I'm no thin chicken. Last time I got on the scale it said 250ish and this bike was lifting itself and my fat ass up like it was nothing. I was screaming! I was laughing!! For a minute I thought I would cry. This bike was freaking awesome!! Hit 3rd and it took off like TOW Missile...

I ended up putting about 25 miles on each of the trusty steeds and my opinion is the same for both...

in my best Obi Wan

These ARE the motorcycles you have been looking for!!

Do yourself a favor and find a dealer that has a demo bike and take it for a ride.
You will end up with a smile that goes past your ears and ties a knot on the back of your head!

If the AX has the same motor in it RX and SX I wont be able to write the check fast enough.

I would put my $$ on the SX just because I like the seating position.

First thing I would change would be bar end mirrors for the SX.

The RX would get a Zero Gravity or Double Bubble windscreen.

The seat is very comfortable. Looking at the bike I thought that would need replacing but I think I could park my butt on that for a Iron Butt Ride.

Get any pictures of the SX? Did you notice if there was a difference in the gearing between the RX and SX?

Gearing was the same.
I think I would drop a tooth on the front sprocket or add a few to the rear just to see how it felt.

I only have one pic of the SX. I will post it in a few.

That's Mike aka "Coolice" on Badweb.

He works for EBR and they are keeping BUSY!

I think he does some lurking but being he is employed by EBR I don't think he would post much.

When the AX is revealed, and if it retains the same powerplant as the previous two models, how well does this motor lend itself to everyday riding?

In other words is the fueling dialed in for a trip to the grocery store across town?

I've read the raves about its performance on the track, but I am curious about the more mundane scenarios.

Thanks.

Great point !!! 185 hp motor with no modes or tuning for max hp has got to be a bit of a tough one round town. Even though water cooled motors are better than air coolers in city or towns that was the only place my xb excelled over my CR. So yeah I'd like to know as well!!! I can't wait to hear the answer, I think the tuning will be down it would be nice if it had 2 or 3 modes as well.

I hope its the same power plant. Its smooth as silk. I don't think you would get out of 3rd gear around town.

Something I failed to mention. HEAT or the lack there of.

I test rode the new KTM Adventure bike last weekend and my chestnuts felt like they were roasting on a open fire. Both of my thighs were uncomfortably warm.

I sat at a couple of stop signs and red lights while riding the RX and SX. Not once did I notice any warmth radiating from the motor.

I have been bouncing that ball around in my head.

The only thing I know is...

That would really hurt my wallet because I would have 2 EBR's in the garage ; )

Mark,
First- A BIG thank you for all the help at Mid Ohio.
The rides were the least we could do for you.
As always great to see you, my James Gang Racing days developed many friendships
in the Buell community and I feel so fortunate to get to see most of you at events across the country.
And yes as one of the "Elves" we are very busy making EBR the best we can.

I test rode the 1190SX at Little Switzerland, NC this weekend (see the "Buells in the Alps IV" thread). I was just really struck how much amazingly better it was than the 1125CR I owned for about a year. More comfortable, much less heat to the rider, higher quality pieces everywhere, more tractable at low RPM, and more torque. I have a feeling this engine would be awesome in an ADV bike.

Real Performance Motorsports of Greenville, SC brought the RX and SX up for our meet this weekend. Several people asked the dealer rep about the AX. He said they had indications the release of the AX is going to be delayed for a bit from what had been indicated previously; maybe late this year or early next year. He said the reason is that EBR is concentrating on doing whatever it takes to get Hero's bikes into the U.S. ASAP since that's a big part of the overall plan. He did say they'd gotten a good bit of info on the Hastur (650cc streetfighter) and that it looks really good.

I had the opportunity to ride both the RX and SX at Rod's Ride On Powersports in La Crosse, Wisconsin this weekend. My impression of both bikes was that they seemed to be version 2.0 of my 1125R. I would say that everything was better. It was smoother, had more power and torque everywhere, and seemed more nimble. I would have loved to set the suspension up specifically for me (although, the stock setting seemed pretty close for my size) and ridden them again. Everything was very solid, and I loved it.

Just need to find a little more room in the garage. . .

The proportions of the SX look a lot better with a rider sitting on it.

I also noticed that the seat height was better than my CR and it fit my 5'6 frame like a glove.

I have a question for those few lucky enough to ride the SX, (not about speed or mechanicals) ... How does it feel compared to the 1125CR with high bars and/or the stock XB12Ss???

I'm 5'10" with about a 31" inseam.

I was flat footed on both the SX & RX

Is been a while since I have ridden a CR or a Ss but it my memory serves me. I think I was on the balls of my feet on both.
The SX has a great seating position for me.
I wasn't bent over and was very comfortable.
Compared to the Ss and CR I think it was as good if not better in the comfort department.
Hands down, way better as far as heat is concerned.

I think I would like to try some Uly width bars or wider on the SX

xdigitalx- Compared to my 1125CR w/ the high bars it felt awesome. It's like trying to compare apples to pizza.... The SX ergos are better than my CR, the bike just fits perfect. The most noticeable characteristics of this bike were the light steering and just the light weight of the bike itself.

I love my CR but it now feels out of date compared to the SX, it's just so easy to ride and comfortable too.

!!!! That's Awesome! I have a Uly,... it's great for me.. but sometimes wish I had the Ss's bars sometimes... or a CR with high bars. I test road a CR with the high bars and I still get tongue tied trying to explain how freaking great it was to ride, can't imagine an even better rush!
