These were the parts I liked:

"The Treasury Department said Friday that its June surplus totaled $71 billion, following a $130 billion deficit in May. The government also ran a surplus in June 2013, bolstered by dividends from Fannie Mae, the mortgage giant under federal conservatorship for the past six years.

For the first nine months of this budget year, the deficit totals $366 billion, down 28 percent from the same period in 2013. Tax receipts are up 8 percent compared to the prior year-to-date, while spending has increased 1 percent.

The Congressional Budget Office is forecasting a deficit of $492 billion for the full budget year ending Sept. 30. That would be the narrowest gap since 2008.

In 2008, the government recorded a deficit of $458.6 billion, which was the record high for deficits up to that time.

But with the outbreak of the recession, deficits soared to unprecedented levels, exceeding $1 trillion for four consecutive years. Tax revenues fell during that period, while government boosted spending in an attempt to stabilize the financial system and provide relief to people who had lost jobs.

The yearly deficit peaked at $1.4 trillion in 2009 during the worst of the financial crisis. It gradually fell from there, plunging to $680.2 billion last year."

" The U.S. economy has recovered the 8.7 million jobs lost during the Great Recession and its unemployment rate is now the lowest it's been in almost six years. But David Cay Johnston, a Pulitzer prize-winning reporter, author and visiting lecturer at Syracuse University's law school and business school, says the economy would be a lot stronger if not for the Bush tax cuts.

Americans have lost $6.6 trillion from 2001, when the tax cuts first took effect, through 2012, according to Johnston. That's more than one-third of the country's annual GDP.

Related: Here’s where all those middle-class jobs went

"When you look at the long-term income in this country and adjust for inflation and population growth, we're not getting better off," says Johnston. He calculated those losses by comparing average incomes in U.S. tax returns from 2000 tax returns to every year through 2012...

...But Johnston says tax cuts in 2001 and 2003 slowed growth while tax increases in 1993 boosted it. Tax cuts leave the government with less money to invest for growth, explains Johnston.

Related: U.S. economy has 'little room for error’: Dan Gross

"We're not investing in the future of America," Johnston tells Yahoo Finance in the video above. "Because we have less revenue, we are not putting the same money we used to put into research ... infrastructure ... [or] education. We are creating a more and more inefficient economy in the name of 'tax cuts will save us.'"

"But they won't, says Johnston. "The empirical evidence that tax cuts produce jobs ... just doesn't exist."

Tax increases, on the other hand, are helping to produce jobs in California, where job growth is about 50% faster than the rest of the country, says Johnston. He favors more government investment in research, infrastructure and education and changing incentives so that money flows out of finance and into productive assets."

The Treasury Department said Friday that its June surplus totaled $71 billion, following a $130 billion deficit in May.

Just to take that first thing you like as an example... They offer zero explanation for this at all. To claim this as a trend without any understanding of why is ludicrous. To claim it as a trend is most likely ludicrous. I'm guessing there's a good reason that they don't mention the WHY. As I learned it, good journalism covers the five W's, who, what, where, when, and why. Ignoring the why is not good journalism. In fact, it's key to understanding what they are reporting on. Why ignore the why?

Some, who are unhappy we no longer import the Good Holdens to put our own crappy looking plastic on them and sell them as Pontiacs, might agree with Alfau.

There is a reason that the first made in the USA bike I bought was a Buell. Sounds to me like yours has annoyed you.

Ever own a 70's Norton? Know who the Prince of Darkness is? Dealt with Modern German OverEngineering?

Or my favorite, the clever windshield washer fluid system on a VW Beetle, that used the air pressure in your spare tire to spray the windshield... Which worked great.... until you had a flat on a dusty/snowy/dirty day and your spare was flat?

And to be Fair and Honest, you can't blame Buell's destruction as a company entirely on Obama. Sure he helped, but it wasn't all his fault. And he had nothing whatsoever to do with the poor quality of any H_d made parts that may have darkened your door.

He does however have a lot to do with this.

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/07/10/house-draftin g-statement-to-arrest-lois-lerner-for-contempt/

And I am concerned about his diplomatic efforts re: this.

As to American made.... I assure you our best is outstanding. Look at such products as the Lancair airplane, that Americans make in their garage as a hobby, from a Kit.

http://www.lancair.com/

or the artistry of fine comic books.

http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/index.php

Or fine bicycles.

http://www.usalovelist.com/american-made-bikes-tri kes-high-performance-ultimate-source-list/

One of my favorites...

http://www.litespeed.com/

The Titanium bikes? Freaking light with the lively feel of a classic butted steel bike. Every Newton of pedal pressure goes into speed.

Hanging on my wall ( I'm looking at it right now ) is a hand made fillet brazed bike, made in Rochester NY, in a 1 or 2 man shop. ( Stowe Rhino ) It's faster than my Austro-Daimler Olympian, despite being set up for climbing, so I'll blame the wheels for that. ( Japanese rims & hubs, Swedish spokes, assembled myself ) I've ridden it straight up a 850 foot Hang Gliding site, starting on a logging trail and striaght into the woods..

But, it's true, Buells really are, IMHO the best we make in 2 wheels and an engine.

The word "surplus" actually means "slightly smaller defecit."

And "lost 6.6 trillion dollars" actually means "kept 6.6 trillion dollars."

Thanks for clearing that up.

Conservatives or liberals, agree or disagree with them politically, can we *please* at least have adults who can do math run the country again for a while? Please!?!?!?

For the uninformed voter.

"Social Security Card history"NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION removed"

Submitted by jbluffton on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 7:29pm

History Lesson on Your Social Security Card History Lesson on Your Social Security Card Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts.Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION, was removed. An old Social Security card with the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION" message. Our Social Security Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised: 1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary, No longer Voluntary 2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program, Now 7.65% on the first $90,000 3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year, No longer tax deductible 4.) That the money the participants put into the independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and, Under Johnson the money was moved to The General Fund and Spent 5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income. Under Clinton & Gore Up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put away' -- you may be interested in the following: ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ---- Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it? A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -- Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding? A: The Democratic Party. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----- Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities? A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- - Q: Which Political Party decided to startgiving annuity payments to immigrants? AND MY FAVORITE: A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! ------------ -- ------------ --------- ----- ------------ --------- --------- Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. But it's worth a try.How many people can YOU send this to? Actions speak louder than bumper stickers"

I didn't realize our beer wasn't strong enough to stupefy me into thinking Buell is reliable and economically viable and the best there is.

I believe an XB is one of the most reliable and viable motorcycles of the current age. Having pushrods and a maintenance free belt capable of running 100,000 miles... Then came the 1125, which put Buell on the map with Japanese bikes. Next to come was the Barracuda, which would have put Buell on par with virtually any competitor.

But, Buell was shut down before the Barracuda could be released. And so, it's founder, Erik Buell, moved on to bigger and better things, and has been reshaping the face of American performance motorcycles for the past 5 or so years. His current products are on par with the industry standards.

Buell, especially considering the odds it was up against, created an incredible product, which has stood the test of time, and has put a smile on the face of thousands of Americans.

If I had to sell my 1125, I would purchase an XB, and be happy with it's low maintenance cost, terrific handling, signature sound, comfortable aesthetics, and terrific fuel mileage. I believe the Buell motor company was a fine representation of American innovation, industry, and character.

Since you seem so hell-bent on bashing America's abilities... what motorcycles has Australia produced that are on par with those produced under the ol' Stars and Stripes?
