Out of 5 children (3 boys, 2 girls(2 mine, 3 hers)) we FINALLY have a new motorcyclist!

He did the MSF course for his birthday a few months ago and he's been saving his money. This Sunday, during Cycle Gear's holiday sale, I will buy him all the gear he needs.

Then on Tuesday July 8, 2014, he will go to the Kawasaki dealer and buy a brand new Ninja 300. All by himself, no cosigner.

How about that!!

That's GREAT!!

He may like the MSF Advanced Rider Course and you could take it together if ya wanted to.

A one-day course that complements a rider's basic skills and helps with personal risk assessment. It includes a fast-paced classroom segment with several interactive activities to improve perception and hazard awareness. Range exercises enhance both basic skills and crash avoidance skills. Improving braking and cornering finesse is emphasized. The course is beneficial for riders on any type of street motorcycle.

He is already planning to do the advanced MSF course, and wants me to go!

I'm so jazzed about this, my own two sons never showed an interest in motorcycling.

That's because dad looks like he's from central casting for "Sons of Anarchy"......or the "Walking Dead". ; )

That is very cool.

Our son, 16 years old, just completed basic MSF course, received his M endorsement on his graduated license.

We are heading out to Philly to pick up his first bike, a Honda 250 Nighthawk. He and I will ride our respective bikes back here. All back roads and we'll be getting lost on purpose

I know how nuts I've been on bikes over the years. Those times when I've walked away or laughed at the near miss. I believe I'm lucky in that neither son or daughter have any interest in riding motorcycles. I at least don't have that to worry about.

Keep yours safe as we know you will. I'm sure there's lots of fun I'll miss, and those unique parent children bonds too which can only be formed through motorcycles. Enjoy this wonderful gift

Thanks everyone!

His mother and I will of course worry when he rides on his own, but I plan to get out and ride with him as much as possible.

Of course I will have to do some test riding of my own on the new Ninja 300.

The baby Ninja is a fine motorcycle for it's price range. If you do as my father did when I got my first bike, and ride his often, you will find that it is a capable machine, and a sight faster than you would believe if you keep the rpm up. The slipper clutch helps keep the rear tire hooked up when downshifting. A definate safety advantage.

I've always been a fan of the Ninja 250, and ridden alongside quite a few. They carry corner speed very capably.

+1...

Someone in my neighborhood rolls by on one of those new 300's- pretty slick little scoot! The old 250's were around forever, glad to see the update... plus, once the warranty's gone, might be time to hot-rod it! What fun a bike like that would be on a twisty road...

Well we went to Cycle Gear and got some stuff.

AGV helmet with Rossi graphics.
Dianese 3 season jacket
Dianese gloves
Bilt boots.

Still need to find him some pants that he likes. All higher end boots were 300 and up so we got some Bilts on clearance for 50.

Out the door for 480. Bike will come later in the week.

I work with a girl who is a new rider and rides a Ninja 300. She lights up every times I ask her how she likes riding her new bike.
It makes me smile just to see her reaction.

That is awesome and that's the age i got my 1st ninja 600r in 1991. I and my brothers started riding at 5yrs old and out of seven of us brothers me and 1 brother ride everyday and own multiple bikes and 2 others can ride but do not own or ride very often. I like a woman that can ride a motorcycle also.... It's kind of rare. (My old lady's dad was a hells angel and she wont even try and ride a motorcycle!) So congrats for you guys and ride safe.

Gotta keep working on those women to ride. The best 'accessory' I ever bought for my road king was a 96 sporster sport for the wife! After 2 corpal tunnel and 1 shoulder surgery, she has slowed down, but i'm after her now to get back to going on the road. she's getting interested in the can am spiders so that will be a turn of events. Daughter hasn't showed any interest yet being a mom of a rambunctious 4 year old. People in general have a love or not of 2 or 3 wheels.
